      Rain-X on, rain off

Love this stuff. Be careful when applying this product near any plastic parts of your car as it can sometimes discolor it depending on the chemical reaction.

    • good to know, thx

    • This stuff is awesome

    • I take it then that this stuff shouldn't be used on a motorcycle helmet visor…

      • I would use the other Rain X product that is safe for plastics instead. Not sure if that is also on sale though.

      • I have used Rainex on mc visor, it's brilliant, you"wipe” by turning your head slightly left or right when moving at speed and don't have to get your gloves wet.
Just check a dot on the side / hinge before you cover the whole visor. let it sit for a couple of minutes and check for any discolouration or softness.
I have never had an issue, but you'd want to be sure.
Make sure your visor is ABSOLUTELY clean and DRY before you apply, and you only need a very thin covering. Let it dry, polish to a high shine, then repeat.

  • I do use it for inside shower screens.. works for me !! no reactions seen so far.

    • Same thinking

    • awesome idea, will try! What about on the tiles?

      • Not tiles..

    • Does it smell? Or more specifically smell toxic?

      • +1

None !! well jst initially when u spray on but goes away in a jiffy..

      • To me, it smells like isopropyl alcohol

        Its only smellz

    • Good idea.. I'm betting it doesn't help well on soap / conditioner?
I rage when I find the wife's walked out of the shower after washing her hair and there's freaking conditioner residue on the glass.. :@

That’s to combat this deal at ALDI starting tomorrow…

    • Most likely.

      Any experience with that ?

      • +5

None at all. I recall seeing the OZB listing here… and have just now reviewed the comments. Aparrently one is a polymer (Rain-X) which creates a slick surface, whereas the EnduroShield is a monomer that creates a non stick coating. I cbf trying to figure out what that really means… I’ll buy Rain-X because of CashRewards+no Credit Surcharge!

        • yeah, I hate Aldi for doing the credit surcharge.

        • @zapy: Pay with Savings then

        • +10

          @Cyphar: Dont have any savings

        • +2

@zapy: Hate the banks too for charging Aldi vendor fees.

        • -2

@RedHab: Sure. I'm sure Aldi can afford the minor credit surcharge on its purchases.

        • Any verdict on which product is actually better?

    • What's the size of aldi one

    • assuming the aldi one is this https://shop.enduroshield.com.au/products/enduroshield-auto-…

      Product Contains the following items:
40ml of coating in pump spray bottle
      1 x application cloth
      1 x instructions

      it is going to be
      aldi 40ml vs sca 207ml

need to check in store tomorrow

  • does this work on glasses? (cycling in the rain)

    • It works on any glass. Shower, mirror, windscreen etc.

      • In my experience, bathroom mirrors and glass fog up more with rain-x applied.

So I would not recommend on glasses.

        • +1

There is a Rain-X anti-fog which works well for the inside of windows but I've never tested it outside of my car.

        • @nickeveli: i decided to try this on the inside of an old car and it was the worst thing that i could of done to my car. Thankfully I was getting rid of the car.

    • +5

Will wreck the lens if it has any surface treatments

I find the spray version a lot easier and better. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Repellant-Rain-X-Sp…

When I was in Japan a few years ago I got a bottle of rain-x that has a built-in applicator. Wish they sold them here :(

This is what they look like (this is not the exact same bottle but you get the idea)
      https://image.rakuten.co.jp/autoland/cabinet/car_wash_goods/…

Easier to use, and I think it'll be less waste.

I've still got a bit left in my bottle but when it runs out I might try and refill it with our rainx. I'm predicting it's a slightly different formula but, for science…

    • buy the rain-x for $10, a bottle for $1 from a $2 shop and you end up $13 cheaper :)

      • +3

The spray bottle is 473ml rather than 207ml. Assuming it's the same concentration, it only works out $1.15 dearer per ml so you can save yourself a strip to the $2 shop for 15 cents.

        • +2

I'm inclined to think it's not the same concentration.

          473ml - $24
          207ml - $20 (before discount)

  • Matching Aldi.

Is anyone matching the Aldi torque wrench?

    • Checked a nearby Bunnings? They usually match Aldi deals (no idea if they have said item though)

      • +1

They only carry Kinchrome brand so it would be highly unlikely for them to match, but I will check when the sale starts tomorrow.

      • +1

i'm sure they have torque wrenches, but they'll get out of it by saying it isn't the exact same product.

        • You’re certainly correct with regard to their price match policy but we’re not actually talking about that. Often Bunnings has a sudden blockbuster sale on an item that just happens to be similar to and identically priced to an Aldi special buy. But the fact remains, they only have very premium brand toque wrenches on the shelf to work with so it’s unlikely they will respond.

        • @LoopyLou: oh sorry yep i'm with ya, my mistake

  • Would this also work on my prescription glasses?

    • +1

Give it a try and let us know lol

    • +2

For when you want them tears to just roll off.

  • Apply to interior glass for a wicked head rush

Need rain for this to work - not much in NSW these days

    • Check the forecast for next week.

    • +1

Heaps in Tas, come get it, I'm sick of it.

      • +1

        ^This. Crikey, bring on summer.

  • Can this be applied inside windscreens as well because when it rains the inside gets foggy as well.

    • +2

No I wouldn't, they have another product called Fog-X for that

    • Don't..I did and learnt my lesson.

      • What happened?

        • +1

It put a film over the window (as expected) but it made it super bad to see out of. My car at the time was pretty old so I thought this stuff would save me time because using the air con/defroster was super slow to work that it wasn't worth it unless a bigger trip. It was the worst when it was actually hot outside of the car because the film would get worse.

  • +3

Great product, you can almost drive through the rain without the wipers going.

Watching the rain drops bead up and slide off to the side is somewhat satisfying.

I should really pay attention when driving.

    • You're not putting enough effort in putting it on, LOL - I do!

    • How much amount of it do you apply? Too thin will it still work? As in adding it on a cloth (gets absorbed?) and then wipe it all over?
      edit: answered below :)

      • I really don't put much. Make sure the windscreen is washed and clean.

Pour a bit on a hand towel and wipe. I literally do a once over and that's it.

That's more me trying to lengthen the use of each bottle.

  • +3

From what I remember this takes some time and effort to get it fully clear. You need to do it in small patches and really "buff out" all the hazy stuff. Even then there will be streak marks unless you really work on clearing them up. Once applied, though, this thing is awesome.

    • Can confirm, originally did a shitty job, and vision became piss poor.

It's basically wax, you want a very thin film or it will cloud up very easily.

    • Agreed. Had to do it with good lighting to make sure that every streak was buffed out. But once it's on, it was superb. Used the spray-on version and it lasted about 1.5 months.

If only they have a rainX and anti-fog as a 2-in-1. Not sure about the effectiveness of applying rain-X and anti-fog separately on the same surface :/

      • +2

Fog usually appears on the INSIDE of the windscreen though, so not sure of a time where you need to apply to the same surface =)

        • +1

That's what I thought! I applied antifog on the inside and rainX on the outside…which did stop the fog on the inside. But the outside of my car still fogged up in winter :(

Had to apply on both sides to stop the fog but I believe that made the rainX's application over the antifog less effective.

          Have you experienced this?

  • Great product, just don't make the same mistake I did last time this deal rolled around. There are separate products for applying to glass & plastic - make sure you get the right bottle

"Or turn the aircon on…"…..now that's comedy right there!

    • +1

Um… He was being serious. Cold aircon gets rid of fog on the inside of the glass much faster than the car heater does. It's just not that well-known.

      • Something I remember being taught was to try and match the inside temperature of the glass to the outside. This is what causes it to fog.

Since then AC for the win!

        • My girlfriend was amazed when I showed her the AC trick, I just thought everyone new about it.

        • +2

You want the AC on to dehumidify the air so you don't get fog on the inside of the windscreen. Keep the AC on and turn the temp up to also prevent condensation on the outside of the windscreen.

People don't seem to realise you want temp to roughly match inside and outside but also AC on for dry air. As a bonus you don't have to freeze yourself!

  • Check store stock before going. Closest ones to me were sold out and they said closest is Ringwood or Sandown (in South East Melbourne)

  • Can someone tell me - can you expect to do a few cars from the one bottle? Or will it just last for one typical application? Thanks

    • +1

I've done all the windows on 2 cars, and there is tons left

    • +1

      Many applications, probably 8-10?

  • +3

Once opened be sure to keep the bottle of this product upright it somehow leaks out of a closed bottle via the dispenser lid - I seem to forget this continually when throwing this stuff into my car washing bucket. Even worse when left to leach onto some plastics it eats in and creates a putrid cat pee smell.

    • They probably have a Rain-X product to get rid of cat pee smell too ;-)

  • +1

good to store it until next winter?

  • Got the last bottle at my local SCA :)

  • +1

None left at Nunawading and only one left at Preston at 6:15pm

  • How does this compare to the Rain-X Additive Washer?

  • How does this thing work? We dont need wiperblade anymore?

  • +1

How long does it usually last until you need to apply again?

    • I went through the comments searching for an answer to the same question. I have noticed the comment below, however, would be keen if somebody can clarify.

"Used the spray on and it lasted 1.5 months"

    • +1

Until there's a massive build of dirt and grime. It depends on a fee factors. Keep your blades clean too and wipe them down with some wax or rain x well and this will make it last longer. Clean windshield equals longer life

  • Definitely recommend this product and at this price, I may just grab some for Xmas!

  • You can also wax your window, it will achieve the same result, and most of you will probably have some car wax at home already. Clean the window thoroughly, apply wax with microfibre cloth, let dry to haze, try rub a bit off with fresh cloth, if it all lifts up, continue, if it smudges, let dry for longer
