Good general colour laser. However its only average when printing photos, images. Fuji-xerox is a lot better for pics. However Fuji did not update support for Win 10 with the old printer I had, and the lack of duplexing, made me switch to the Brother. I use the Fuji now as a colour photocopier.

    • I had to chuck off my old xerox laser printer as the toners were a way too expensive…

Picked this up second hand at the start of the year for $100. Great printer for general document printing. Not so good at pictures. The document feeder at the top doesn't scan duplex and the first page out time can be ridiculously long sometimes (>20secs)

I have one of these. Had it about 18 months and it now requires a new fuser unit (for around $200). Common fault apparently. The fuser unit in these is rubbish.

Rather than doing that I've decided I'm going to replace the roller (for around $30-$80 depending on where you source the roller), but this is no easy fix… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JR5Y9sBbTjY

I wouldn't buy one of these again. As asther has said, it's good for documents but bad for photos, and now it looks like it's going to need major surgery every year or two.

Where did you buy it from? Id argue that you expected it to last longer than 18 months. Always had good luck returning printers to office works. Usually get around a year to two out of them and something fails.

Bought from HN. I could probably go the warranty route but that's more trouble than just fixing it myself. Just wanting to warn others about this problem.

        • I dunno, usually pretty understanding. Not worth repairing. They would just exchange. Dont know if you dont try.

I have a MFC-9340CDW (very similar model) and have had the fuser replaced twice in 3 years. First time was also after about 18 months and it was out of warranty. However after asking Brother Australia for where I can get it repaired they offered to fix it for free. I think it would have cost at least $200 for a new fuser unit and installation.

Then a few months back the new fuser started to give the tell-tale page wrinkling and I ended up ordering a fuser roller of Aliexpress and replacing it myself using the video @Jangle references. It wasn't an easy, straight forward process and it would be very easy to break the fuser lamp in the process (thus junking the entire printer).

So you are better off looking at other manufacturers, or at least look at the higher end Brother units that have larger rollers. According to the repair guy who replaced my first roller the problem is that the fuser roller is just too small and can't handle the heat over an extended period of time.

  • Tried to get one of these, the coupon code doesn't seem to work
"This code cannot be applied to this order"

    • Did you copy the code correctly? I order mine yesterday and picked it up this morning.

  • We've got one of these on the network. Prints nice enough.

Trouble is that it sometimes starts printing utter crap and keeps going until the paper draw is empty. Only seems to happen when there's a windows 10 machine turned on.
