Believed, as indicated by the set price, that people could utilise basic logic and deduce that I've performed a basic search by:

        Google.
        Yellow Pages.
        True Local.
        Local Search.
        Auto Guru.

Guess that was too difficult of a challenge for some, especially for those still doing connect the dots book.

So, basically, what you’re asking us to do is what you should be doing. Is it because you are too lazy or just don’t know how to use a phone?

But I guess cause you are a lazy entitled internet troll, it’s easier to post it on a forum and try to get other people to do your leg work so you can get back to smoking bongs and puffing shards. (Source: I live near Newcastle and that’s their main occupation, bongs and shards.)

I am a qualified mechanic and have been for well over 25 years (check out my comments, they mainly relate to automotive stuff on here) I worked for a Holden dealership for a few years and I was nearly going to offer to do it for you at the cost of the replacement parts and a slab of (decent) beer thinking that if $600 supplied and fitted was too steep and was a strain on your finances, plus I am near Newcastle. But since you are lazy AND and smartarse, I’m glad I didn’t and I wouldnt recommend anyone to you, because I don’t want them to have to put up with your insolence.

If you don’t understand any of this, I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain it to you…

          @pegaxs:

"So, basically, what you’re asking us to do is what you should be doing. Is it because you are too lazy or just don’t know how to use a phone?"

Really? Do you actually expect me to respond to that question with a yes? How can you assume what I've done?

Yes, in hindsight I should have been more clear and outright stated that I had called a number of mechanics. However, this does not excuse your attempts at pointless mockery, remember it requires two forces to cause a conflict.

So in short, you had a go at me first for asking for help and by you assuming something that was incorrect, is this not true?

I mean honestly how dare I, what right do I have to ask for help? Some people right?

"What you do is, find something that will connect to the internet, you use it to search those sites and then pick up the phone and call some places you found and and say that you have been quoted $600, can they do it cheaper? "

So you don't believe in covering all your bases?

Besides, you literally stated you would have done the replacement for $600 and a case of beer.

Is this your normal rate? Would you have offered this price if I had called?

So either that the usual rate on offer and a simple phone call would have sufficed or I was correct in posting this thread.

"But since you are lazy AND and smartarse, I’m glad I didn’t."

Please, I'm not the only smartarse, and only retaliating to people that were smartarses.

So, in my opinion, it's clear you're a type of smartarse who cannot handle another person being the smartarse and I thought mechanics were supposed to have thick skin.

        • @Unknown1:

Ok, ok. Let me get out the crayons and some paper…

How can you assume what I've done?

Easy. You came here to get other people to do your legwork. Your post was vague about what you had already done, thus implying it was “too much work”.

Yes, in hindsight I should have been more clear and outright.

          Yep, should have.

this does not excuse your attempts at pointless mockery,

You started the mockery with your “challenge for some” comment and every other sarcastic comment you have made in this thread to others.

remember it requires two forces to cause a conflict.

This isn’t a conflict. I’m not arguing with you.

you had a go at me first for asking for help and by you assuming something that was incorrect, is this not true?

Nope. I just gave you a list of places to try looking. Isn’t that what you requested? Your post did not say that you had already tried all of these.

I mean honestly how dare I, what right do I have to ask for help?

You didn’t want help, you wanted someone to do it for you. Try “Airtasker.”

So you don't believe in covering all your bases?

Do you know what the phrase “cover all your bases” actually means? I guess you’re not an “English Engineer.”

Besides, you literally stated you would have done the replacement for $600 and a case of beer.

No. I said I would do it for the cost of the parts + a case of decent beer. These alternators can be had on eBay for about $250 new. Case of decent beer, $50. $250 + $50 = $300. Guess you’re also not a “Maths Engineer”

Is this your normal rate? Would you have offered this price if I had called?

If you were not such an ignorant troll, yes. I would have said, let me know what day suits, buy the alternator you need off eBay and I will fit it when it arrives. In my free time and a 150km round trip all for a carton of (decent) beer and a chat to help out a fellow OzBargainer.

If you wanted an invoice for tax, I can put it through the company and charge you $120/hr. They don’t accept beer as payment. Sorry.

So either that the usual rate on offer and a simple phone call would have sufficed or I was correct in posting this thread.

If you called more than once place, you will see that between $500 and $700 would be about industry standard price and yes, you could have saved looking like a sarcastic tool responding to people on this thread.

Please, I'm not the only smartarse, and only retaliating to people that were smartarses.

And how has that worked for you so far?

So, in my opinion, it's clear you're a type of smartarse who cannot handle another person being the smartarse and I thought mechanics were supposed to have thick skin.

I have a thick skin. I deal with people like you as a living. You’re like water off a ducks back for me. I wasn’t the initiator of the smart arsery. But unlike you, I’m just better at it. ;)

          @pegaxs:

"Ok, ok. Let me get out the crayons and some paper"

This is an insult? That you still utilise crayons to write? That you never graduated to a pen license?

Besides, isn't writing with a crayon more of a challenge, than you know, a pencil?

          "Yep, should have."

          Fine, we both agree.

At least I'm man enough to admit my mistakes.

          "You started the mockery"

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

"No. I said I would do it for the cost of the parts + a case of decent beer. These alternators can be had on eBay for about $250 new. Case of decent beer, $50. $250 + $50 = $300. Guess you’re also not a Maths Engineer"

The source of confusion culminates from your incomprehensible grasp of the English language, and not from of an inability to perform mathematics.

Furthermore, Are you under the strange impression that knowing the value of a regulator quantifies as mathematics?

Besides, an easy way to defuse your antics is to ask you, what's a DE?.

Regardless, you go on believing whatever you want or whatever helps you sleep at night.

"If you were not such an ignorant troll, yes. I would have said, let me know what day suits, buy the alternator you need off eBay and I will fit it when it arrives.'

Unfortunately, those who have resorted to ad hominems are immature and lack a certain logical ability to argue.

So as that old saying goes "That's like the pot calling the kettle black".

          "charge you $120/hr"

Sigh, the original question posted centred on the absolute undeniable fact, which you have just confirmed, that without posting this thread and by only calling each number as you originally suggested, I still would not have been offered the best deal possible.

Thus, I very much appreciate you gave the cornerstone for this thread's existence.

"If you called more than once place, you will see that between $500 and $700 would be about industry standard price and yes, you could have saved looking like a sarcastic tool responding to people on this thread."

          one*

What? Assuming a scenario does not cause that said scenario to become true. Especially, as I've already stated that I called a number of places and that the price to beat was established on the lowest quote received from a range of mechanics.

"And how has that worked for you so far?"

Honestly, I never expected a reply to this thread and so I'm not at a net loss, especially considering that I'm not paying the repair, so I could not careless.

"I have a thick skin. I deal with people like you as a living"

You, sir, are a something-ist. Besides, as stated above stating something and that something being true are two different matters.

"I wasn’t the initiator of the smart arsery. But unlike you, I’m just better at it. ;)"

Either you're an initiator or you are not a smartass, you can't be both so choose.

Besides, I am done, I cannot argue with people lacking certain logic or reason.

So, I'm sorry for any possible retaliation remarks that I might have made, and let's leave it at that.

        • @SBOB:

          Agreed.

Hence, if any mods see this please close the thread.

        • @Unknown1:

Before I close the thread, I'm calling out your comments as rude and disrespectful. You set the tone to this thread and its disappointing it ended this way.

For everyone, personal attacks and name calling are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Let's try being a bit more positive and respectful to others going forward.

          Thanks.

How about you find it your f—ing self?

"Please" "Thank you"… familiar with these?

    • -3

Performed a search the lowest I've been quoted was $600 as per the set price. Besides, how the hell does this affect you in the slightest, if you are too lazy to help? Are you being robbed of your so-called valuable time, schoolboy?

      • +1

Please, Thank you etc are common words that we use when requesting help from others.

        • -3

When did he help? Did you actually read his post?

Regardless, yes, of course, I'm very grateful to those that actually help.

However, if someone is rude in a thread they better expect to get a rude response.

  • +1

I can do it for you for $500

    • Really? That's a good price or are you secretly trying to steal my car? If so go ahead you'll won't get very far with a broken alternator.

  • +1

    Nah

  • reconditioned or new ?

price differs a lot between 2

    • New.

For people wondering, I've called Scott Forbes and he quoted in the range of $500 with labour.

      • 600 fitted is ok for genuine oem from holden

        or

ask chumlee above do it for you at 500

  • no idea on price, but Adamstown Car Doctors is a well reviewed mechanic in the area
have used them for the last ~10 years

    • Mature and respectful response.

Thanks, I'll give them a call tomorrow.

      Note:
This thanks would have been ushered regardless of what others have posted.
