TID Travel Insurance 10% Discount

450
TID1017

Couldn't find any current 10% off codes for Travel Insurance Direct, but as the previous one was TID0917, decided to try TID1017 and it worked for 10% off a policy I purchased today (so I assume this code will work until the end of October). .

  • Good deal. If you have RACV insurance of any sort you can get a 15% or so discount on their travel insurance policy which might work out to be cheaper than this deal.

    • I no longer use RAC here in WA for travel insurance as I've found their policies are usually more expensive (sometimes a LOT more) than companies such as TID, 1Cover etc - for example, the trip I've just taken the TID policy out for was $65, with RAC it was $83 and that was AFTER the 15% member discount!

    • Agree very unlikely RAC will be any cheaper even with any sort of discount.

    WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

It is easy to sign up to Travel Insurance Direct (TID) online but impossible have a claim accepted. On May 30 this year, while travelling in Namibia, my backpack containing insulin (I am diabetic), other medication, an iPad and iPod was stolen. TID has refused my claim and I have asked for a review.

Still no action by September 25. TID has refused to reimburse the $200 I spent on insulin and other medications, saying they do not have a new for old policy. They will not replace my backpack or my iPad or iPod.

I had my iPhone stolen in Germany. Got a police report written up, and TID paid me. Easy as. That's the only experience I've had with them, and I can say it was extremely simple.

    • What was there reason for refusing the claim?

  • Be wary of this company.

They refused paying out cancellation costs even with sufficient evidence from drs. This was a small claim ($1500).

The trip had to be cancelled before they would even look into a claim so this removed the option of deferring the dates with the airline.

Furthermore, the trip was cancelled before departing but they refused to refund the policy even though they were refusing to cover us.

    • Why would they look into a claim and pay you before you have a claim to make? That’s like saying can you let me know if you agree I have a problem first so I can decide if I actually have a problem

      • But TID actually has cancellation cover (for a specific set of circumstances) so they do cover this. I wonder what the reason was in this case.

      • Why not? There was a claim to make before I cancelled the trip with the airline. Flights were prepaid and travelling on those dates were not an option for medical reasons. They weren’t actually willing to cover us for anything if we DID travel yet wouldn’t refund the policy. If they were honest from the beginning we could have negotiated changing the dates with the airline. In practice they said it would be fine, we cancelled, made the claim and then they back tracked.

        • So you actually cancelled your flights for legitimate reason and they still refused to pay? If so then agree that is poor. Hope they haven’t gone downhill and done a Skymesh

        • @opilot87:

Oh yes, a legitimate reason with letters from the dr, not a pre-existing condition.

In the end we got $1000 from the airline for cancelling and just gave up on the other $1500, it wasn’t worth the stress and pain of dealing with their customer service or claims teams.

I’ve been using them for 5 years but never again.

    • Hey ScJ, I had taken out a TID travel policy last year, and had to make a cancellation claim like you did.
Mine was due to me injuring my back at work, and upon a doctor's recommendation that I don't fly.
They asked me for my medicare history to make sure it wasn't a pre existing condition, and also proof that all my fares were 100% non refundable. Total time from claim to settlement was like 2 months, pretty outrageous.
What was the reason for your cancellation?

      • I believe they changed hands a few years ago, the people who still think positively about the company likely haven’t tried to claim recently. I know the feeling, it took a month for the claims team to review the decision (after already weeks and weeks of questioning). The person who reviewed it was the same person who processed it originally and during the review process asked no further questions, so of course the outcome was going to be the same…

That's not a good outcome at all. They were really dragging their feet throughout the whole process. I actually chose TID because it was one of a very very few number of policies that actually had some sort of cancellation cover, I even read the PDS carefully to make sure certain things were covered for cancellation. My claim fit all that and still they were umming and aahing about paying out.
          I feel your pain mate

  • Wife had to make a claim once for a skiing injury and no hassles or issues getting it sorted. Would recommend

Insureandgo has 20% off with coupon code Groupon20.

    • Thoughts on Insureandgo?

      • I dropped my camera in the sand and they paid that claim. Also paid for missed port on our Caribbean cruise with no hassles.

  • Not a good value for the policy being offered - went with RACV for half the price with better benefits.

  • I'm another one who had a claim denied. Never again.

  • I'm looking at going to Bali next month, however in TID's website they state they will no longer cover and claims to do with the ash cloud. Does anyone else know of any other insurance suppliers to do cover the ash cloud. Thanks

I never worry about luggage cover or return flights or a couple of extra nights accomodation. Sometimes they are less than the excess. The real thing I look for is unlimited medical cover. That said, most insurers try to repatriate you to Australia so that they don't have to cover treatment costs.

Am I the only one struggling to find a field to input this code in?

    • I had issues, found a code that was sent in an email and clicked the get 10% off button from there then it added it.

    • Field showed for me only in the app
