I was eyeing off the CT790 on the goodguys web site for $400 which seemed like a good deal. I think I have to pull the trigger on this though.

…and…bought. Thanks OP. Have to drive across town to pick up but is better than $35 for postage.

      • Yeah good model and some good features :) let us know how it goes man

  • What’s the difference between the YAS series vs the HT series? Was looking at the yas 207

    • $170 price difference, so unless the 207 has a feature you must have then I doubt the sound quality difference would be worth that much (or look at a more expensive model to compare the 207 with).

    • One difference to note is the 3 x HDMI inputs - handy if you have a TV that doesn't support ARC / your TV is wall mounted with a single HDMI in the wall

  • Out of stock for Adelaide :( Damn

  • Would this be able to turn on and off with the tv without having to use seperate remotes?

    • +3

Yes if connected via HDMI then you can

    • +3

Your TV has to support ARC which is something built into hdmi. My samsung TV has 1 of the hdmi ports which is ARC so I had to use that specific port.

      • +1

ARC (audio return channel?) has nothing to do with CEC (consumer electronics control).

If both devices support HDMI CEC, they will switch on / off together if setup correctly.

ARC is used to return the audio signal to your stereo whilst you use a different hdmi port on the tv. EG, use hdmi 2 for input, sound is passed through arc back to your audio equipment and you can use it in place of the tv audio.

      • Will the HDMI CEC work with different brands ?
My TV is a Samsung and this soundbar Sony. The main thing that I want is at least able to power on/off and volume control both TV and soundbar with the TV remote control.

        • Yep. HDMI CEC is not brand specific. If you enable on both Samsung and the audio device, will switch on / off together.

        • @MorriJ:

Missed this no more stock anywhere around me.

  • Good deal Trent, just wish it came in silver or white…

Really? I love Black it goes with everything :)

      • +1

Once you go black you never go back ;)

  • How is this compared with this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335514

    • The Samsung doesn't have a subwoofer, altho its woofer can apparently can play as low as 40Hz. If you're not a fan of deep bass, you might like the Samsung one better.

  • Just looked at JB's price. They're selling it for $599.

  • the ct 790 is an excellent unit for anyone wondering of the quality of these. plus you can expand it with more speakers

    • so is the 790 better or this one? they both seem to be similar priced…

      • they look basically the same as its the next one up it seems so not much difference. thats why i mentioned the 790 is really good. deff a good price and worth the buy

you can pair these units with stuff like zr 5 or zr 7 speakers. to have a R, LR, RR, etc.

  • Just got it. Thanks OP

    • Can you do a review of them when you have time? These speakers are on my Xmas shopping list.

      • I can but you must know that it’ll be my first soundbar so I don’t have anything to compare it with other than my Sony home theatre (which had a lower original price than this).

        • Thanks, I guess it depends how your existing home theatre is configured, and if you're going to use optical or HDMI ARC from the TV. I am interested in the HDMI ARC as I hope it will connect to a non-Sony TV for volume control, so I don't need to use the soundbar remote for volume control separately.

Also interested in the google Cast ability, whether it is reliable for hours of streaming.

          Thanks

  • fixed.
