    Yo that’s cheap

  • +4

How's the service? Recent domestic virgin flight was very disappointing. May as well have been flying jetstar

    • +1

      Agreed…..

    • +2

Very Very Good. Nothing like domestic, last time i flew syd to LA with them, i had like 5 meals in a 12 hr flight, there were heaps of snacks, good service, drinks etc. Everything went really well, big luggage allowance as well.

    • +1

Just flew with them to LA, great trip all round with pretty good food and service (it was literally night and day from my last flight with airasia hahaha). Out of the attendants there was one that was kind of rude, he just didn't have any manners for any of people he was serving. Everyone else was great though. Legspace was also decent too.

I love Virgin, staff are great and their planes are clean.

  • Virgin international very good. Especially if you have status! 😉

    • +3

      Username checks out :)

    no love for brisbane?

    • +1

Hi BlitzR, we certainly love Brisbane.

Unfortunately we didn't find great fares on this route which means Virgin didn't load any or they have sold out.

      If you do want to see what fares Virgin do have out of Brisbane you can find them via this link;

      http://www.flightscout.co/au/cheap-flights/brisbane-to-anywh…

      Los Angeles is $1088

  • +4

AirNZ is only a few dollars more, and a much better flying experience

    • More leg room? Wider seat?

    • +1

      direct v via NZ though

      • +1

True… My last virgin intl flight was horrid…. So will take a mini stop over for better food and service!

        • +11

Mini stop over? It adds 3-4 hours in total traveling time. I'd take direct flights over better bread rolls any day.

        • @Wilo81: 90 min stop over on the way…..

        • @JimmyF:
Don't forget the going off course to get to NZ and slowing down to land and sitting on the tarmac when landed and preparing to taking off, etc

I just looked at the Air NZ site. Best case (some flights were 20 hours), is 17.5 hours total travel time compared to 14.5 hours direct.

    • +2

      3-4-3 on AirNZ 777. 3-3-3 on Virgin

      • -2

I don't really see a pro or con for either… its pretty much the same.

        2-4-2 is much nicer ;)

        • 2-2-2 is even nicer. Air New Zealand had that in their old Premium Economy "Spaceseat" product. It was well worth the price. They're getting rid of their Spaceseats though :(

        • @Daniel15: 2-2-2 is nice! Thats for sure!

    • I've always found VA superior to West Coast; seems an individual preference

    • Yup, I flew ANZ to LA via Auckland few years ago. Brand new plane, wider seats & good legroom. Best of all, their service was the best I've experienced on a longhaul, very warm and hospitable cabin crew.

  • Hey op. Does your site have capabilities of searching by fare class? I.e. business?

    • +2

Hi bemybubble, at the moment we are just focusing on finding the lowest price return fares. Additional classes are something we would certainly like to introduce in future.

      • +1

Great suggestion there. It'd be amazing to be able to find cheap business class flights, being flexible with travel dates. Also is it possible to filter by flight duration (inc. transit times)?

        • +1

I really wish I could find deals on business or premium fares. I sometimes see them come up on Secret Flying but it's pretty rare. Being 6 ft 2, I normally have to purchase extra leg room after buying these deals because there is no way I'm spending 14 hrs in an economy seat.

        • +1

@Kiwi131313: try multicity itenaries. I’ve found that my individually selecting cities for a trip, with flights within few hours of each other, it’s possible to create a ‘cheaper’ premium fare.

      • Do you know how long this LA sale will be going for?

        • +1

No Sorry. We cant find anything promoting this sale so unsure when the sale fares will end.

  • +4

I had seat assignment bumped after check-in at airport by Virgin to facilitate a "VIP". Never again.

    • Did they say 'excuse me'?

    • All airlines can - and do - do that.

      • +2

It's very rare after check in with boarding pass issued. And being able to do it doesn't make it right. They lost my future business by doing it (that and removing direct flights from MEL to US - bad move!).

        • They actually reintroduced direct flights from Melbourne to LAX this year.

LAX is a horrible airport though. I'd rather fly MEL to SFO even if it involves a stopover in Sydney or Auckland.

    • +1

What so special about your seat then?

      • I bet it was row 5 seat.

    • +2

You must have been really had your heart set on that seat.

  • +1

Living in Perth means we have to put up with Virgin Australia for a flight to Sydney before getting on Virgin International to LA. The Perth - Sydney flight is not worth putting up with even though the international flights are great.

    • Just checked a few per to La, they are e all via melb, probably some other route via syd?
Not sure if melb is better or worst than syd for stopover?

      • Not 100% sure, but if via Sydney you have to make your way to international terminal, via bus. Does virgin cover this?

      • +1

Melbourne probably a better spot for stopover because you can walk between the terminals pretty easily. Sydney's a shit-show for transferring between terminals.

  • Great prices to NYC. Hoping for something to Miami to come up on VA/DL for February.

  • $799 is my target price from Melb.

  • Would love to see qantas

Not while they give $25 mill bonus to a lepracaun for an annual result, who still have to drag the corp out of a $2.5 billion hole

  • guys i had almost 300k of velocity points, do you think I should use the points for ticket or buy the ticket, and use points to upgrade to business class? Would this ticket qualify to upgrade to business class?

Looks like you need to be Gold or Platinum to use those points to upgrade :(

      • Yeah this is unfortunately correct, as I discovered earlier this year when I tried to do the same thing. Best use of points is to use them to buy the ticket

        • aiks, what a shame!Never gonna get to gold, so points for ticket it is then. Any tip in buying ticket with points?

  • is it possible to do advanced seat selection?

    • What do you mean by advanced? As in book the seats when you buy the tickets? If so, yes

  • How much extra is it for the 'sky couch' option?

    • i got it coming home from LAX to AKL 2 years ago, was about $700 on top of the existing fares (2 of us)
edit: also only on air NZ obviously, not Virgin

  • Can't seem to find Adelaide at price. Min. I m getting is $929

    • Unfortunately those fares must be gone and $929 is the current cheapest on that route.
