    Review - https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/10/vivoactive-3-review-…

    The Good

    • Understated-yet-elegant design
    • Unique, convenient side-swipe control
    • Good rep counting
    • Solid GPS and heart-rate monitor
    • LiveTrack compatible
    • Can store more than one watchface on the device at once
    • New beta Garmin Connect homepage is a great change of pace for the mobile app

    The Bad

    • Not many on-device heart-rate graphs
    • No onboard music storage
    • Can't choose individual third-party apps from which to receive alerts
    • Only Android users can respond to texts on the device

    The Ugly

    • Garmin Pay and preloaded workouts not available yet, but coming this month
  • Seems odd that that seller's price for the Vivoactive 3 is the same as Garmin's RRP, but their price for Vivomove HR Sport is double Garmin's RRP ($599 vs $299).

  • is this better than my Epix with toppo maps?

    • Very different market segments. I think the Epix was more a successor to the old Timex Expedition, in that hiking/mountain climbing space. This is more of a day-to-day smart watch with reasonable fitness functionality.

  • Wish I waited for this instead of buying a gearfit2 pro. Good device but HR monitoring is very patchy at rest and the tizen app space is dead as a door knob.

    • None of the wrist based HR monitoring is particularly great. By its very nature it'll never beat a chest strap.

      • I expected it to work better than my old MS Band 2 though. It's meant to measure every 10mins but if there is any movement, it fails and does not attempt again for another 10min. By movement I mean any slight movement. It's strange since it can track HR fine in workout mode!

Review here (as ever with fitness watches!) https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/08/garmin-vivoactive-3-ever…

Replaces the old square Vivoactive HR. $90 under Garmin's RRP (for what that's worth). Very tempting, but I think I'm one Garmin fitness watch short of my wife organising an intervention.

    Thanks OP, ordered one.

  • This is more like the little brother of Fenix 5. Nice find.

I wish I could replace my trusty old Forrunner 235 with this :(

I'm keen to pick one up but got to wait until Christmas to replace my Fitbit Blaze.
Looks like my Ozbargaining has finally caught up to my bank balance ;-)

Looks like the price has been jacked up to $749.

  • Currently the price has jumped to $749.00

  • Price has now been updated to $499.00

But the ebay product description is still listing it at RRP $449.00

  • The watch is $341.24 Posted at rebel eBay with P5OZZIE code but ends midnight tonight or soon after.

    • Dam ! Missed it….
