Samsung Galaxy Note 8 - $83.33/Month (9GB Data with 15GB Data Gifting) 24 Month Plan @ Virgin Mobile (Via Online Chat)

690
SAVE20

So I've spent the morning sussing out the cheapest possible deal for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with a good amount of data. So hear me out on this:

Virgin currently have this offer at $70 plan + $20 handset repayments, making it $90/m.

Now I've tried this several times (three times, to be exact) over a week or so to get the best possible deal. Chatting with the sales team to get a better deal will get you 1 month access fees off, but if you ask real nicely, they'll give you up to 2 months access fees off. This happened every time I engaged sales chat using different aliases, and was not a once off. If anyone else can get any better than that, then please share, that'd be great.
Anyway, that works out to be $140 credit.

Add in the SAVE20 code to get another $20 in credit, and finally cashrewards $45 for being a new customer, total credit balance:$205

Divided out by 24 months makes it cheaper by $8.54 a month.

So final monthly repayments is $81.45.

Get this before 31st October in order to register for screen assure

Please note that this deal is only good for those who don't want to pay upfront for the phone outright (which would be much cheaper, ~$44.25 for the phone alone over 24 months if you got TGG 20% off as well as TRS). However, in terms of month to month payment, this would be the cheapest and of best value.
Obviously, if you need more data, you could apply this to the higher plans, or if you don't need as much, apply it to the lower plans. But virgin comes with data rollover which works out really well too. Note that Velocity 10% off mates rates no longer works, and they won't apply it. Student discounts non-existent

Some other offers:
Telstra were able to give me $10 off M plan and above online.
Optus were absolutely useless, and rude and would not engage with me in a respectable or direct manner.
Vodafone don't have online chat, but they do have student discounts as well as red discounts all detailed on their site. But in store would not give me any better of an offer.

Hope this helps someone out!

Great phone. Just consider that it is very tall and large. The phone is taller than I thought it would be, actually sticks out of a few jean pockets I have.

    • +4

"Is that your phone in your pocket or are you happy to see me? Oh it is your phone…"

        "BBC" - Big black Cellphone

    • Yep, I hope these new, stupid aspect ratios are just a temporary Samsung/iPhone fad and that it's just about to die in the ass.

16:9 (1080p, 4k) is good enough, and everything uses it. TVs, monitors, phones all use this aspect ratio.
Why do these idiots have to go and fragment this space again with stupid aspect ratios? What happens when you want to watch standard 16:9 content? Black bars? Warped aspect ratio?

Vote with your wallet, get a 4k Xperia XZ Premium instead. It's cheaper anyway.

      • +3

haha nah once you go tall you can't go back. These tall phones are so much easier to hold, the only then is when the screen gets as big as 6.3", then it gets difficult to hold. But for web browsing, movies, multitasking, taller is much better.

Also I don't think anyone would recommend a XZ Premium wholeheartedly. It's like recommending a G6, it's cheap, but you know you are buying something sub par.

        • +1

was with you until the XZ bit. nothing wrong with that phone, it stands up fine to the rest of the SD835 flagships (as far as i'm aware)

        • @harro112: Yeah, I was interested in the comment/experieince until the part about the XZp.
I have one, it plays the wii/gamecube emulator better than my mate's S8 (which also has the SD835).
Still doubtful about 16:9 movies as well.

        • @harro112: The phone is huge for the size of the screen, camera is inferior, screen is inferior, battery life is inferior, software is inferior, I'm not sure what else you mean by it stands up against other flagships?

        • @idonotknowwhy: Note 8 is significantly faster than s8.

        • @OnlinePred: out of curiosity, do you own one? i don't, however in my experience briefly using one and from what I've read i'd pretty much disagree with all of that. reviews for the camera (960 fps slo-mo) and (4k) screen are good, the battery is larger than the S8, and sony's skin is pretty decently regarded in the Android community in general.

        • @harro112: Went from Pixel XL - Note 8. Wife has S8+. Although sony's skin is pretty decent, it doesn't offer much over AOSP, and yet is limited by updates from Sony, compared to Samsung touchwiz which actually adds many features to android. Slow mo was the only good thing about the camera, many reviews including MrMobile explain this.

Software optimisation wise, the sony does not compete in battery life either.

Please refer to gsmarena for basic battery guides or youtube for more specific ones. Even note 8 with bigger screen etc lasts about the same if not longer than the sony.

          https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note8-review-1659p4.…

The battery in the XZ is smaller than the S8+ and note 8.

It will all make sense after you use the phone for a week. The taller phone makes it easier to hold, easier to slide it in your skinny jeans pocket and multitasking feels good without making either window look "too short". Tall phones will be the standard for Samsung going forward and probably some of the other manufacturers may follow suit.

        • Yeah, I read somewhere that LG are going to me-too the tall/skinny phones as well.
Hopefully Sony don't follow suit, and I can just keep buying their phones lol.
Might be saved by PS4 remote play and the fact that they have Sony pictures.

Cashrewards is not a deal. Just saying.

Should I be worried about spontaneous combustion?

    • lol. keep extinguisher with you and it should be fine…

      • Lol seems like the fanboys can't take a joke

        • +5

no, just regular folks who have heard the same thing a thousand times - except your time of course, which was fresh and inspiring!

  • +1

cheaper to get a Note 8 outright plus $30 (25% off $40) optus sim only plan..

I retract my comment.. I've only just read this "Please note that this deal is only good for those who don't want to pay upfront for the phone outright"

    • …and even cheaper if you can salary sacrifice the phone through your work…

  • Vodafone absolutely do have an online chat - I rode them for about an hour to get the N8 a bit cheaper. Not as good as this though

    • Ah my mistake!

      • Best deals with vodafone is through talking to the aussie call center people.

  • Same experience with Optus. Customer service from both online chat (overseas) and over the phone (Australian call centre) were extremely rude and unhelpful.

    • +2

That's why I prefer Telstra. They're still unhelpful, but at least they're polite :)

      • and their phone reception is worth twice the price over the droptus network.
And yes i switched just over a month ago from 2yrs with virgin to telstra on a Note8 plan

  • Great info man if u wanted an unlocked note 8 and happy with a grey import…. who do u think r 3 best etailers local or global? Cheers… Luvd ny note 2 from kogan need another stylus phone!

    • I don't buy grey import sorry :( Burned once and so I can't trust the process again!

      • +1

        how did you get burned?

  • How long did you spend on the phone all up talking to them?

    • Well it was all during the commute when I messaged them so while it was a few hours all up, it was also exciting to hear from them when I got a decent deal :) The vodafone in store discussion took about 40 minutes.

  • Thank you OP. Just signed up with Virgin mobile. no money down + latest phone (note 8) + same (or very similar pricing) as buying the phone outright + sim only plan = win win.
They offered $100 credit (i asked for 2 months free but their final offer was $100). + $45 cash rewards.
    Maths ($90 a mth x 24mths=) $2160 - $100 credit = $2060 - $45 cash rewards = $2015 for 2 years. 2015/24mths = $83.96 a month (which works out similar to outright buying….$35 sim only plan (9gb data) x 24 months (=$840) + $1199 (latest deal for AU stock of Note 8) = $2039
Could not figure out where the $20 off code goes. there was no option when signing up.

    • +1

"Save20" Ask them to add it on for you. They added it on for me after i signed up.

  • Not sure if note 8 will slow down after a year like any other samsung phones.

  • Is this possible with S8+ or S8 ?

  • +2

You can get the Note8, SG8 for free on the Telstra/amway XXL plan (on sale now at $99.20) with 60gb's

You need to be an amway IBO or VIP (free to sign up as VIP on amways website and get a valid number) and then signup.

The SG8+ is an extra $5 a month…. checkout handsets

Whats sweet is it inc international roaming and data too!

    • +1

Do you have any more details on this? How do I get an Amway IBO number to sign up as a VIP, are you able to provide one? Thanks

      • +1

IM me if you need details on IBO..you need to signup as vip client

        • Yeah its free, quick and easy to signup as a VIP under an IBO. Upside is a great deal, help a brother out in making a small profit on amway into the deal

        • @srhardy: how do I sign up under IBO?

        • @corballc:

          see amway thread

  • Surprised no one else has asked… Wth is data gifting?

    • They just give you a once off 15gb to use for the life of your plan. So you essentially have an extra 15gb in the bank to draw upon when required.

      • Umm…thought it was able to "gift" data to another Virgin customer…like someone in your family, your buddy, etc. You may not be a big data user, and can spare a few Gb to handout. Anyone else correct me on this?

      • data gifting allows you to give your remaining data to another virgin postpaid customer.

the biggest i have gifted is 12gb that was about to be removed (can no longer be rolled over) - however, the person receiving cannot gift the data you gave any further. it cannot be returned to you as well.

      • My bad!

  • +1

Thanks OP. I signed up last night with the IPhone 8 plus 64gb on the $100 plan($80 plan + $20 phone). 16gb and $300 int calls.
Online chat was trying really hard to convince me to sign up so in the end I negotiated a 3 months plan credit ($80 X 3 = $240) plus SAVE20 code. $260 all up before cashreward.

Anyone knows how does cashreward claim works for Virgin Mobile? Its not like ebay where they tracked your purchase…

  • Has anyone tried the cash rewards website? It wont open for me

  • What did you say to the sales team to get them to offer you the deal?

Were anyone able to get the 1-2 months off for existing customer? Does the SAVE20 valid for existing customer?

Edit: managed to get it as existing customer. The key is to keep hinting "Is there any other promotion going on at the moment?".
