Picked up one this morning, had a play around with it in store first.
seems good, snappy with no lag. Touch screen worked well, bluetooth connected easily

      Is this FULLY SICK compatible?

      • +1

hahaha. i voted you up for that FULLY SICK comment.

  • Good price. Make sure you price up the electrical adaptors, you'll need at least two. If your steering wheel has buttons you'll want a conversion unit for that too.

    • +2

Do you mean a pair of ISO harness (unit >> ISO << car)? If not, what do you mean by "two electrical adaptors"?

      • +1

yup those. Aerpro make some good ones.

        • Aerpro is basically the cheapest brand you can get (not that it really matters)

Source: Used to work as a car audio installer for audiocomm.

        • +1

@dfaktz: Or you could just wire it up manually with the supplied harness….

        • @dheywood:
You could always wire it up manually but that involves reliably splicing ~20 wires into your car harness. I prefer to leave the car harness untouched.

    • +1 please elaborate

$19.85 includes patch lead for Steering Wheel Control (still need SWC conversion unit for your car)

$16.90 here if patch lead is not needed

        • thaank you

        • Any chance you can help me with links to the other adapters need for a Rav4 2006 (with steering wheel volume controls)

          Thanks

        • +5

@DiGiT02: Sure. Please be informed that with SWC conversion some native functions may not work/ be recognised by the head unit, so consider if it is worth it on the extra cost vs the desire to utilise the buttons.

Essential: $16.90 ISO Wiring Harness for Sony XAV-V630BT -Aus stock

Option 1: ~$54.00 Connects2 CTSTY001 Steering Wheel Stalk Control Adaptor -shipped from UK
Option 2: ~$48.00 ANAlogz-SWC-7650-11 Steering Wheel Control -shipped from UK
Either options come with a patch lead with 3.5mm aux. I'd go for Option 1 because Option 2 explicitly states "Phone Button not supported (for RAV4)" so for another $6 exta I'd try the Connects2 unit.

If you decide to not use the Steering Wheel Control, get this instead Toyota RAV4 ISO harness

Have you already made the purchase? If not, check out the reviews someone posted below and also you can go the Android option many users discussed in this thread.

          @sky blu:

I utilised the $20 off from $100 spend @sparesbox from this deal:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335611

…to purchase an iso harness with the steering wheel control adapter (+ a $2 tag to tip it over the $100 mark with free shipping), they aren't exactly dirt cheap!

        • @sky blu: sky blu, would this unit support reserving camera? what would i need to get to install this on a nissan dualis?

        • +1

@godofpizza: Yes, it certainly does. In the JB Hi-Fi ad, it states "Camera Input - Rear" and in the ISO Wiring Harness for Sony XAV-V630BT you can see in the photo the green and violet wires which are trigger wires for parking brake and reverse camera input.

This is the ISO harness for Nissan Dualis (2007-2013) from the same eBay seller for $16.90. It will be dearer for a conversion kit if you have Steering Wheel control buttons you want to use.

          Good luck!

I was almost ready to get this - great price.

Now searching for an Android box or one that supports CarPlay!

    • Same. Android

      • Same, waiting for an affordable Android Auto unit.

Google "Car Joying". Bit more expensive than this. Works well coupled with a 4GX wifi hotspot in the glove box (get a half price one from Woolies/Coles on sale).

I've been thinking about replacing the pretty sub standard stereo that came with the 2009 Toyota Kluger KX-S

    • +2

I bought This Android Head Unit from CarJoying. Installed in my VX commodore. Can't fault it. Always pairs with my phone. google maps, play music, handsfree (installed an external mic), youtube, etc all run quick and snappy. well worth the money imo.

Here it is installed in my car.

  • Unit is not that great, you'll have an impossible time playing videos on this thing as it's massively anal on the formats. Also it doesn't have Sony mirror support so you cant mirror your Sony android phone to it, which older units could do.

Better off buying a cheapo android double din online.

    • Better off buying a cheapo android double din online.

      Any recommendations?

Carjoying units are good. Make sure to get 2gb ram / 32 rom

        • +1

I have one of this carjoying on my kluger, pretty pleased with it.
Easy to install as well :)

        • @p4r4m31c1um: how much do these go for? Put carjoying into ebay and got nothing

        • @Jackson:

          I bought from this guy.
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222531186912?ul_noapp=true
Look if you haggle enough you might be able to get it on lower $400.

I know its not as cheap as other android unit in the market, but I know this one works.
Install is not hard, and I'm not even a car enthusiast or cabling master.

You can find out the review in some toyota forum or even youtube.

Note: you might need to work out the cabling little bit if you want to attach it to your existing camera (if you have one).

        • +1

@p4r4m31c1um: Got a Joying in my Kluger also… had it a couple of years. All round a brilliant unit, it is far better than the $800 JBL upgrade that we went for with our new Aurion. Joying supply everything except the aerial adapter for the dual diversity antenna system. Easy to buy them for a few $.

        • @Jackson: Joying also have their own site that you can purchase directly from.

        • +1

@xywolap: thanks for all the responses, unfortunately the car it's going into isn't worth more than a few times the unit, so I will probably have to pass on the joying.

Oh and couldn't find it because was looking up carjoying as opposed to joying

This is the cheapest I can find, only Android 5.1 but supports navigation, reversing camera, AM radio. I can't think of anything else I would need.

Mods: I didn't post a referral link, I just took the link from my watch list

        • -1

Why would you go for this over the $118?

        • -1

@jstar168: I'm providing an example, finding the cheapest with whatever is on sale is up to the person interested in buying one.

The main point is that th eSony unit is very limited in functions for what you're paying and that there are plenty of cheap alternative options that provide more functions/features. Quality is another thing, I'm sure the Sony is better in build quality but it's disappointing that it does not have Sony mirrorlink which would have made it a good unit:

  • Don't suppose anyone knows the cheapest Apple Car Play or whatever it's called is? iCar or whatever, anyway what's the cheapest way or do I have to buy a new car.

    • +3

Buying a new car seems drastic - you could just turn on the radio?

      • +6

Like my grandpa used to when he could still drive? No thanks.

        • +4

Aww c'mon…tune in to Radio National and grab the latest news headlines on the 1/2 hour, then switch over to Classic FM for some sweet tunes. Your grandpa would be proud!

    • Sniff around on gumtree or ebay…I picked up an Alpine ILX-007 for $420 (retail: $600ish new) & I've seen em on gummy for <$400.

Just had a play around on this at JB hi-fi after seeing this deal.. was not impressed to be honest. This should never have been a $350 unit. It is extremely basic. I would think twice about even paying $150 for it.
Nunawading store Vic has it on display.

    • +1

It has everything except android and iPhone connectivity, even has touch screen and NFC. Hardly basic …

      • Meh. My opinion. It's boring as F.

        • +2

What more do you want for $150? Any examples for better options??

        • -2

          @BTRaynes:
My whole point. It's not worth $300 that it claims to be worth. Caio.

        • +5

          @teeby:

Value is subjective. When other models with bluetooth are selling for at least $100, to get a unit with a doubledin touchscreen is a bargain.

But I agree. If you're going to spend hours of time installing something that you're going to see and use everyday, may as well spend a little extra to get the extra features of better units. But people don't all think the way I do, they don't calculate value the same way, which is why I posted this deal to let them decide for themselves

You're entitled to your opinion, but it would help if you listed specifics on why its crap, not just making statements and expecting us to take your word for it.

      • +1

I would prefer traditional headunits like pioneer/sony etc as the audio processing/quality/amplifier is generally better and the signals are more stable.

Joying and other generic android units however are definitely more functional and app friendly.

However, if your main purpose is for audio and bluetooth, then I would prefer sony/pioneer type headunits.

        Just my 2c.

  • OT Can Anyone recommend me a single din unit with Bluetooth for audio streaming and phone calls under $80? Doesnt have to be super powerful or fancy.

    Cheers!

    • last time I looked (also in the as cheap as possible price range), my friend who were into car audio reckons there really ain't much difference at the lower end, so just pick your preferred brand, or the nicest looking one :)

looks like this is the cheapest one with bluetooth (at least at JB):

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/sony/sony-dsxa400bt-…

otherwise, get the cheapest headunit with front AUX-in, and plug your phone into it :)

  • +5

Does anyone else find the whole idea of a touchscreen head unit a bit daft? I bought one thinking it'd be easy for my wife to use. To a certain extent it is, but only when two conditions are met - you're not driving and you can see the screen clearly.

The former is a problem due to there being no tactile feedback from the unit at all, with an "old fashioned" style head unit you could feel exactly where the keys were. The later is a problem when it's bright outside - the display washes out and can't be read unless you shade the screen.

It isn't a cheap crappy unit, it's a Kenwood DX4033 (from memory), but I would think that mose (all?) similar units would share these problems.

    • You can still get ones that have physical controls on like volume etc

      • Volume is one of the few things that there is a physical knob for. There's a tiny power switch that you need to use your fingernail for. So they've tried, just not very hard.

    • +2

      Steering wheel controls.

      • Correct… when driving all you need is station selection, volume or mode for other sources which are all on the steering wheel. Setting up nav, browsing the net or playing movies is not a function the driver would normally do on the road.

        • +1

Steering wheel controls assumes a fairly modern car.

        • @banana365: hard to tell from here that your car is that old that it does not have it. :-( sincerest
          apologies..

        • +1

@xywolap: No problem at all. Didn't mean to come across harshly. My wife only listens to one radio station anwyay, plus the kids are always in the car, so she has voice control by proxy anyway :-)

        • +1

          @banana365:

          Thats so funny xD
It's not a perfect solution, but you can get clip on steering controls like these ones for fairly cheap

  • How much does it usually cost to install something like this if you pay someone to do it? I have a 2007 Citroen c4 and a 2008 Ford Fiesta.

    • +1

Installation is not cheap. Last I remember was about $200-$300 in labor.

I decided to install it myself to save the money and it was quite easy. Just buy the plug and play harnesses from aeropro/elite-electronics.

I'm not associated with any of these brands, but you can buy the full package for your headunit and install it quite easily.

      • Wow I didn't know it would cost that much for labour. I did everything myself. You just gotta spend time doing research, prepare the tools and plan the installation steps.

  • Does anyone have experience with the speakers?
