Well we have had one here its been a little ripper after added a SSD and more RAM but recently, like so many others it has had trackpad issues.
Somewhere there is a Windows or driver update that is screwing with trackpad functionality. I know its a long shot but hey, some of you guys might be in the same boat?

  • Bought two of these and gave one to my sister.
Mines whas been working great, no issues so far.
sisters trackpad randomly goes non-responsive (mostly when she wants to use it at school) … is this whats happening with yours too?

  • Yes, exactly that.
I actually just got through fully re-installing Windows 10 a couple of days ago as the trackpad was becoming erratic and it's been a couple of years anyway. It ran fine with the original drivers from the Acer website but as soon as it was used for a day, bam, back to the same issue. Random cut outs with the trackpad.
I downloaded Microsoft's update hiding tool as there is no provision the reject updates in Windows 10. That worked fine after I hid the trackpad drivers that auto updated and IO updates but once the cumulative Windows 10 update went through it started flaking out again. Damn thing has given me a class A case of the shits this weekend. I just then decided to throw in the towel and reduce the trackpad to "basic" in the bios as this does work. It seem there is just a glitch that can't be fully overcome at the moment with Windows 10 and he full "advanced" trackpad drivers.

    • Maybe you could try installing windows precision drivers (if it currently uses elan or synaptic)? I used this guide.

      • Hey thanks will give that a try

  • I have one and used it for when I went on vacations.

I got it out the other day and cannot charge the battery. I tried removing it and holding the power button down but no luck.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    • No idea about the battery sorry.

    • If it's been in storage for a while, the Lithium cells may have dropped below the minimum voltage for charging. If you can turn it on with the paper adapter and battery in, try downloading BatteryInfoView and see if the voltage (or anything) is provided. This happened to a couple of Dell batteries of mine where the Li cells dropped to 0.2v.

How long did you leave the charging cord in? I'd keep the laptop off and have the charger connected for a good hour. If the voltage hasn't dropped too low, it might take a while to slowly charge up until the ~"0%" mark.

      • I downloaded but it looks like the battery is beyond the point where it will charge. I left it overnight and nothing.

I have ordered a new battery for $26.00 which is not too bad.

        Thanks for your help.

  • I have had enough of Windows on this thing now - the latest updates have screwed my internet on it after rebuilding it perfectly. I am going to put Linux on it tomorrow. Redmund can get f-ed. Forced Windows 10 updates are ridiculous.

  • I only just noticed this topic and I don't have any advice for your problem specifically as I haven't experienced it, but I had a question for you/anyone who might happen to know.

Every time I format this I try as much as I can to let Windows find the drivers for everything itself. I have a copy of all the drivers, but I don't like installing stuff unnecessarily (just an OCD thing of mine..)

The issue I'm having (which I raised here once a while ago) is to do with shutting down and hibernate not doing what it's supposed to do. The screen goes off, but the actual CPU remains on. You can still hear the fan running even whilst the screen is off.

It's definitely to do with one of the Windows Updates but I cannot identify which one. I've been able to identify this because after formatting, it usually works ok at first, but after one of the auto updates that gets downloaded it will start occurring. Haven't been able to fix it and I often get freezes every time Windows tries to apply updates!
