1110

on clearance, down from $429 to $399 and now $379

in-store only

there are still some @ Officeworks punchbowl and LEWISHAM store,

call them to confirm before you go.

unlock is so simple, go to unlock.telstra.com, enter your IMEI which on the box, and your phone being unlocked.

UPDATE:

As people reported that telstra no longer provides free unlock via the link above.

I marked the deal as expired

STOCK LEVEL CHECK may not work properly,

I checked the stock level Thursday night when it was still online, it showed punchbowl and LEWISHAM store had stock.

From friday, since it's been offlined, stock level became no stock now at stores above.

I called punchbowl store this morning and can confirm they do still have many, so don't trust checking in stock, just give them a call to confirm

      • +1

Check stock level doesnt work as well. It shows no stock @ punchbowl, but they actually have

  • +1

Any deals on the 128GB SE?

    • +1

Bought one from eBay deal 18% off weeks ago..

From mobileciti local AU stock with 2 yrs warranty

      Paid $520 for IPSE 128gb

      • Yep. I missed out on that deal.

        • +1

This $379 is quite a good deal too

I really like going back from 6+ to SE form factor.. more snappy compared to my 6+ and pocket size

        • @DarthLord: Snappier than an iPhone 6+ on PoGo? Very interesting :)

        • @biawak:

          What is PoGo?

        • @DarthLord: PokemonGo :)

      • Cool story bro.

  • +1

3 left at Malaga WA as of 1310.

  • Officeworks Lewisham has them still for $672 in-store, and these are bundled with Telstra sim

    • If you called the store , asking transfer you call to tech department. I was told $672 as well, after they transfered my call to right person, I got the right price.

They should promote the price in store as well

      • Had the same problem initially as they were scanning the actual phone opposed to the SIM card attached. The phone will scan at $679, but the sim scans at $379.

        • +1

Yeah they did that when I bought one over a month ago, scanned the phone and it came up as $499 then they worked out scanning the sim gave the correct price.

        • They did same couple of months ago. It comes with $30 sim.

    • yeah wrong barcode. pretty sure we got explicitly told about that. perhaps that pos person missed the trick.

  • Officeworks are always useless for stock levels. Every time I've tried over the years they've been incorrect (usually not there yet it says it is).

Anyways rant aside, great phone I picked one up from Harvey's for 399 and free unlock with telstra. Ripper deal when you think it has the 6s internals and camera.

    • Does it not share the Touch ID from the iPhone 6? Which is noticeably slower.

      • +1

Yeah it doesn't have second generation touch ID. It is slower but not enough to scratch my eyes out. Silly that every other cheap android phone out there has a snappy fingerprint reader yet they can't do theirs.

        • Yeah it doesn't have second generation touch ID

Really? The fingerprint recognition on my SE is way faster and more accurate than on the iPhone 5s. The speed difference can't just be down to the faster CPU, right?

  • it's been that price for like at least 2 weeks. vary hard to find stock.

    • -4

Why didn’t you post it as a deal ?

In all honesty some members don’t deserve the OzB badge!

      • well, if the stock level is too low. what's the point of post it here?

      • +5

Because any Ozbargain veteran would know that OW clearance are very hit and miss. They would have crazy prices, but next to no stock.

    • To be perfectly honest, I only checked my postcode Thursday night, and I found there were two stores around had stock.

      Not that hard I believe.

  • Does this have a notification led?

    • +1

      no.

iphones have never had a notification LED.

people are so glued to their phones these days, a notification LED is a waste of battery.

      • On iPhone you can configure the flash LED to flicker in accessibility settings.

  • Yeah not much stock around. From memory theres a bit around Sydney. Punchbowl had a few. Liverpool etc as well. Wollongong didnt have any.

    • Are these meant to be brand new? I picked up one from East Kew this evening (their last one apparently), have just got home and opened it and it's obviously not a brand new unit - the box wasn't sealed, the protective plastic the phones are normally wrapped in wasn't there and there are fingerprints all over it, charge cable has already been unwrapped, charge adaptor has marks on it etc. Pretty annoyed about it to be honest - sales person didn't say anything about it being a demo model or anything.

      • Mine is brand new. You should put yours back and ask for refund.

BTW, why not check and unlock in store before you go back home.

        • +1

          a) It was five minutes before closing b) I don't normally open things in store, and without any reason to think this wasn't brand new…I had no reason to open it in shop and check it's brand new. One of those 'you don't know what you don't know' type situations.

        • +2

@dm01: check the phone status, find out if its been activated before your purchase.

        • @John Kelvin: Cheers John - very useful.

And thanks a lot, OW - reselling used phones:

      • im not sure about other stores, but i tell the person that it's used/warranty replacement and knock a few dollars off. I can only imagine it was a mistake. but yeah, take it back, return at the register, happy days. i imagine someone can tell you if a store nearby might have stock or something.

  • banking on X release and all iPhones price drop… might not work out

    • +1

X still lacks an earphone socket though (!)

Its a game changer for many iPhone users, doh!

  • +1

Everyone with Price Protection credit cards that have purchased this product before - remember to claim!

  • Wonder why they’re clearing stock ? Normally indicates new model on the horizon but haven’t seen any rumours of a refresh of the SE .

    • Probably cutting down on models available in the product line. Apple has gotten increasingly worse from the early Steve Jobs days. It used to be the current model iPhone, and the model before. Now it's SE, 6S, 7, 8, X… so much room for price overlap, making for confusing choices, as somebody else noted above.

  • +1

Thanks!! Bought one at Officeworks Liverpool. Had a bit of trouble trying to get the correct price but once they scanned the Telstra sim barcode it seemed to show up at $379. Also confirmed with the staff there are still over 10+ available.

  • Thanks OP, pick up one at Officeworks Campbelltown, stock was clearly marked @ $379.00.

Hopped online (https://unlock.telstra.com/iphoneunlock/main?execution=e1s1), entered the IMEI and hey presto, unlocked iPhone SE

    • What version of iOS does it came with?

      • +1

Hey Kvn, mine came with 10.3.2.

        • Thank you :)

  • Argh any new SE users help please.

I tried to upgrade from a 5S to the SE, admittedly a used 64gb off ebay.
    It's intolerably slow to wake!

Next to the 5S, the screen takes ages to light up when you press the home or on/off button.

Does anyone else have this? Both are running ios 11.0.3
It's slow enough that I'm prepared to ditch the rest of the SE benefits and just flip the phone :(

    • I myself just downgraded from iPhone 7 Plus. A little bit slow than ip7p but still quite smooth running and yes the phone with ios 11 as well

      • It's fast in general operation, it's just the unlock / screen wake is slow.
Really weird and frustrating, I was really looking forward to this phone!

        • Mine’s not. Quite quick to home screen when unlock the phone. Might be slower than ip7p. But thats only 0.1 seconds difference.

        • @John Kelvin:
Thanks for letting me know. Weird, are you on the 11.0.3 update too?
Reportedly that may have been rushed out and is a bit buggy

        • @Hoju: yes, got the latest ios 11 update. No problem at all.

    • It's intolerably slow to wake!

Yeah that's not normal at all. Try doing a full restore to factory settings if you haven't already done so.
If that doesn't fix things, maybe you got sold a lemon.

When I upgraded from my 5s to a new SE, it was like night and day. The SE is so snappy and overall damn nice that it's put me off ugprading to the iPhone 8/X etc for at least another year or two.

(And yes, I'm running the latest iOS 11.0.3)

      • Thanks for that. I’m wondering if it had a third party screen replacement. Will check it out at Apple and send it back if so!

      • +1

Alrighty well I took it into the apple store and they ran diagnostics
All the sensors (GPS, acceleromter, compass) were faulty.

They opened it up but couldn't see any mods

        —> free replacement phone!

        NOW it's fast.
        And shiiiiiiny

Got to love Apple. This is literally the 5th or 6th free replacement I've scored under their warranty thing.
All have been dodgy used ones bought on ebay that have had issues.
        Loyalty pays off I guess…

        • Oh wow good result! You mentioned it was a used SE, was it still within the warranty period?

        • +1

          @44sunsets:

Yeh crazy lucky. Told them exactly what happened, that I bought from a third party seller and thought maybe the screen had been replaced and that’s why it was dodgy.

It was outside the 1 year but within the 2 year period so woohoo!

  • Picked up one at Officeworks Punchbowl. I think they have one more left.

  • Is this the cheapest price on Ozbargin?

    • not the cheapest.

if I were right, bigW used to sell it for $249

      • yea I saw that, sadly miss it - i think that was only optus too

      • +2

That was a one-off thing by way of "apology" for being out of stock of some other Sony phone at that price, I think it was? Doubt that should be considered an official discount benchmark for this model as it's unlikely to be repeated.

  • None in SA apparently.

    • Not too worry. BigW is going to launch almost same price for optus prepaid iphone se 32gb if you have woolworths wish egiftcard.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/338709

  • Can anyone post a screenshot of their receipts?

  • Good deal, ended up picking one up at Officeworks Alexandria

  • Got one from Officeworks Punchbowl today, $379 include $30 Telstra prepaid
not sure if this already unlocked or because I did unlock request from this Telstra web: https://unlock.telstra.com
Now works well with my Vodafone sim
I guess this would be the last iPhone with 4-inch screen, grab while you can
You can get cheaper than $379 if you have Coles Staff discount and be able to resell the $30 prepaid sim :-)
But for me, this is bargain since I'm not a fan of "big screen" phone and also the hardware inside this same as iPhone6 (hatchback car with V6 engine :-)

  • Prepaids cannot be unlocked.
Officeworks said are you sure you want it as prepaids cannot be unlocked???
    Now I am confused…..
    Anyone have this problem???

    • +1

I had no problem at all.

you don't even need to open the box, just enter the IMEI from sim pack or box @ unlock.telstra.com

you will be told it's being unlocked.

      • I did that and i got an error msg. So i didn't buy it just incase it won't unlock as the staff at officeworks said.
        :-(

        • it's odd.

I did buy two, no problem at all.

also no one else report the issue.

try again and check you IMEI code you entered.

        • @John Kelvin:
I just came back from another officeworks and they said the same thing. You cannot unlock ghese phones….?
I think i will wait for a safer bargain :-/
          Thanks OP

        • @mastereric111: Did you use 15 digit IMEI code to unlock your phone on telstra unlock site?

I tried again seems no problem at all.

        • @mastereric111: If you're in Brisbane, i'll be happy to take it off your hand?

    • +1

I think, Officeworks does not know about this, they only sell stuff
Apple does not allow provider to "temper" their phone with provider software like they did before
Remember, Nokia phone when you turn on, you can see Optus greetings screen or Android phone with Optus screen
So the only way to lock iPhone via Apple, and to unlock also via Apple
I dont think Apple will spend time to investigate what is your plan, have you pay or not, etc
I guess, when someone submit request to Apple, they will unlock right away

  • Will Big W price match Officeworks (since they have stock)?

  • The free unlock is working again! I just tried mine it works.
