Found this in the back page of the Big W catalogue Nov 2-8. Not sure if the phone is locked to the Optus network, other OzBargainers may be able to shed some light on this. Seems like a great deal nonetheless for a decent phone.

Edit: since the deal is now active, the link to the website is now available with the stated price (and delivery option)

Thanks OP. Other options: $379 at Officeworks if you can find stock. Also available for $399 at Optus.

    • Got mine from Officeworks, works well with Vodafone sim

      • Officeworks said I won't be able to unlock it… so I didn't buy it because I dont want to be stuck to Telstra…
Telstas sites says prepaids cannot be unlocked using this site https://unlock.telstra.com.au/iphoneunlock/main?execution=e1…

        • well, I tried and successful
Either it was successful unlock via unlock.telstra.com.au
          Or
          it already unlocked since beginning
But I did enter IMEI no to unlock.telstra.com.au
Officeworks told me the same thing like they told you, I guess they just want to play safe

"Seems like a great deal nonetheless for a decent phone."
    decent phone = overestimated

    • The phone is personally a bit old and small for me to consider purchasing (currently still using an iPhone 5 lol), but seems very popular among the OzBargain community and functions quite well (though iOS 11 sounds like a potential drag)

      • iOS 11 is ok for me I have one of these purchased for same price a few months back. Has the same guts as iPhone 6s bar the fingerprint reader so it's not too bad. I use it for camera though only really.

It's also missing 3D touch and the front facing camera is 1.2mp opposed to 5mp in the 6s.

It's still a great phone. The battery life of the iPhone SE is phenomenal, significantly better than the 6S.

I recently bought an iPhone SE 128GB but it's been unopened sitting on my desk in shrink wrap packaging as I'm hoping to find someone that has a brand new Galaxy S7 that they would trade for it. If I can't find a swap in another week or two I'll start using it, as it's all I really want/need in a phone besides having an optically stabilised camera.

        • @c0balt: whoops those too hhahahahahha, I don't find those essential so glossed over lol.

I agree still very decent. I use it for slow mo video with the Filmic Pro app. Find that no android phone seems to get slow motion right but iPod touch 6th gen (same camera as iPhone 5) can, and iPhones pretty much all can. Great gear for the price.

yeah that's really holding me back. wife's iphone5 64gb is packed but she needs an upgrade due to 3rd cracked screen (couldn't be bothered changing it AGAIN) and volume button not working.

      • If you get another Apple make sure you get AppleCare. Sounds like it could come in handy!

        • I don't think Applecare covers accidental damage, it just makes it just makes the cost of repair cheaper.

        • @FlipCrank:

Yep, just need to pay an excess of $45 for screen damage or $149 for other claims. $45 is much better than $270 (iPhone 8) or $420 (iPhone x) though!

        • @eciuj: I have replaced it myself with screens from ebay which cost less than $45. Yes they are probably crappier than Apple screens. But the cheapies have cracked when the phone had it's cover off. With a cover it seems to be OK.

          @Juice08:

The whole LCD assemblies can be had for ~$20-25 including camera, speaker and home button.

          Example:
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LCD-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Assem…

I would definitely replace the screen seeing how cheap the whole assembly is, and how it takes less than 10 minutes to do it.

        • @c0balt:

I've replaced iPhone 4 and 5 screens myself when the phones are out of warranty (my wife isn't very careful either), but I wouldn't replace it for one still in warranty as Apple won't touch an iPhone which has had non-genuine parts. My proximity sensor stopped working on my old iPhone 5 and they refused to repair it because it had an aftermarket screen. Imagine the mainboard on your iPhone died and Apple refused to repair it because you replaced your own screen.

      • The screen cracked by itself? If it is due to dropping then just let her use the cracked phone until she knows there are cases to protect her phone

        • see above comment. agree about the case.

One was when the child dropped it in water -had the case off to dry the phone then the someone dropped it on the floor. I think the answer is to get rid of the kids to prevent cracked screens.

    • Thanks! I was wondering whether this phone would be unlocked!

  • How are they gonna have enough stock for this? Seems like it's getting low everywhere…

    • Agree! It seems no big W store in Sydney have it in stock except they get new stock in 2 days. But don't think it will happen because Optus has it out of stock on its own website.

      • Revised: They got stock yesterday afvo. Bought one on morning, it's unlocked directly out of the box. Now my wife using it with Telstra.

I member the good old days, back in July, when Big W sold me this sucker for 250.

  • How is this phone play pokemon go?

    • +1

It runs really good, I know this because I recently bought an SE to see if pogo outlasts the 6s in terms of battery and by how much.

It gets nearly 10% more gameplay on the SE compared to the 6s.

Both phones were on 0% battery wear, 50% brightness and under 50 cycles and on iOS 10.3.1

  • Thanks, just what I was looking for, bought one today for my Mum : )

    • Nice one!

  • Does the $50 come in the included sim, or it came as a separate recharge?
