Kids Party at McDonald's - What Food to Order?

Hi all,

Due to very bad weather, we have changed our 6 year old's party venue to a local McDonald's tomorrow. We were going to do it in the park with BBQ and clown/magician. Now we will have the clown/magician still but order food from McDonald's. We have never eaten at McDonald's though so I would like to know what would be a good way to order food for the kids.

We are getting a party room but haven't purchased a package, we will do our own decoration, cake and entertainment - just need to order food there. What is a happy meal and how much is it in NSW? I looked at the web site and saw the loose change menu. Is that a good way to go? Just need to know what will keep the kids happy food-wise and keep the cost reasonable.

There will be 32 kids and maybe 10-20 siblings too.

Thanks.

Just purchase 50 soft serve ice-creams and save hundreds of dollars :)

I should have mentioned keeping the parents happy too. That might get too many scoffs. Right you are though.

    • Yeah to the 'pig fat'option!!!

  • +3

I think Happy Meals are nearly $6 each. Not 100% sure though.

    • Thanks. That's what I was afraid of.

      • I wonder if they will give you a discount if you purchase a certain value of food.

Maybe she can use the 25% off app coupon?

        • @outlander: True

    • +3

$5.45 IIRC. I remember when they were $2 as a kid!

      • Thanks for clarifying

  • Have you told Mcdonalds about this?

    Anyway, Order 50 Mcgangbangs.

    • Yes, they are fine with it. We have the party room booked. They said as long as we order some food there.

I like the idea of $1 frozen coke and $1 burgers from the loose change menu.

Any who will look after 50 screaming kids?

Seriously, that is a bullshit menu for kids, at least get them Happy Meals.

        • We will and some parents will help. I thank you for your comment though. That's why I posted. Don't want to get it wrong.

We will provide lots of fun though and have lots of gifts for the kids to take home so all we need is food, not food and toys.

What about a burger and shake for all the kids?

        • +1

@Lavec: I'm sure the Mcdonalds manager will suggest some potential options based on your budget.

@Lavec: What kind of sick bastard goes to Mcdonalds and doesn't even order the fries? Shame on you. I bet your 'magician' is a homeless guy dressed in a rented top hat.

        • +1

@Burnertoasty: Point taken. Burger, drink and fries it is!

        • +1

@Lavec: And not some bullshit hamburger. Cheese burger minimum. A few boxes of Nuggs to share wouldn't go astray.

        • +5

@Burnertoasty: Ok! Cheese burger, nuggets, chips and drink then. You don't work for McDonald's do you? lol

        • @Lavec: No, but I should. If you're buying all that, you might as well order Happy Meals. It will probably be cheaper, and the kids will be stoked to get some crappy toys.

        • +1

@Lavec: I think you will be a little pressured by the kids to get Happy Meals because they will want the toys.

          @Burnertoasty:
When did they start putting cheese on their burgers?

        • "cheese"??? Well some plasticized version that never decomposes!!! Do yourself and the kids a favor and don't go to McChew & spew.

      • Sounds good

Happy meals for the kids. DOn't need anything for the parents. Offer to get some frozen drinks or coffee but they can buy a meal themselves. That's what's happened when my kids have parties there

I did a kids 10th birthday for about 12. Still have the receipt for over $100
Brought our own cake in no problems. Was a great day.

    Maccas does table service now.

    • I've found at quite a few locations that table service has been removed not too long after being introduced. At Glen Waverley (VIC), they even had stickers on the doors promoting table service and now they've ripped them off. The option is still on the kiosks but there are no number disks to take.

Other locations look like they still offer table service (with the number disks and everything) but just call the number from the counter regardless.

We have never eaten at McDonald's

Am I the only one shocked to read this?

    • +2

Where's McDonalds? I've never heard of the place.

      • +2

Hahaha. It's almost like that. The kids think it's a cafe. Of course I have eaten there as a kid, just not since we've had kids. It's about to all change!

        • Fair enough

        • I was thinking that it's a place that's almost unavoidable, especially at times like road trips haha

      • +4

I think it's a farm. Has a pig, a cow, a horse. That sort of stuff.

        • That's how it used to be. Where do you think new McDonald got his 100% Beef?

        • And a really old bloke

    • -2

I've only been twice… very disappointed, when can lettuce and onion be called a salad… fries that are as limp as a drunkards dick. And bonus food poisoning both times. I now would prefer to die of hunger than eat there again!!!

      • +3

I don't believe you had food poisoning from Maccas, let alone twice from two visits. Their food-like products are questionable in a number of ways but the one thing they are insanely strict on is hygiene and making sure nobody gets sick from their food. You must just have a very sensitive digestive system.

This is going to cost you a fortune I reckon. Good luck though, I bet the kids will have a pretty awesome time!

  • +1

I refuse to believe you've never eaten anything from a McDonald's at some point in your life.

Trust me, all the kids will know what ‘they’ eat at Maccas. Happy meals would be the way to go but they vary in price depending what the kid chooses. I hope the party room is big enough for your event because most of the time you’re lucky to squeeze 20 kids in.

    Hamburger - $1
    Fruit bag - $1.75 / Fries 2.15
    Frozen drink- $1
    Cookies - $1 - Softserve - $.60

you are looking at less than $5 a kid unless they get fires over the fruitbag and cookies over the softserve

you could also go nuggets 20 for $13.50 and give them 1 or 2 per kid on top

    Hamburger/cheeseburger happymeal is $5.45

just download the maccas ordering app and it has all the pricing

A little surprised that the OP would hire a clown/magician but baulks at spending sub $300 on food.

    • +2

Read to me was questioning what to order, and not mentioned cost

      • +2

Initially but then when someone said happy meals were $6 each they said that’s what they were afraid of.

Honestly, I’d just be happy that McDonald’s had a room that would fit 50+ people on a inclement Sunday at such short notice and that they would allow an entertainer on site (legal liability, etc).

        Hope the birthday goes well!

    • Is Mcdonalds food ?

6 x $25 mega family packs… the ones with nuggets, 4 burgers, two family size chips, 4 drinks (medium, I think). Just throw all the food in a big pile on a table and let everyone take what they want.

Order extra cups of water and ice for free.

I find that most of the mums at kids' parties hardly eat anything, and the kids just take nibbles and wanna play more, a lot gets wasted. It's the dads which eat the most.

just out of curiosity (i work between multiple stores) which store would you be having this kids party at?

    • +16

^Any money this person is looking to arrange leave on this date if it's their store

      • +2

HAHA well said.. but opposite way

As a manager, i love getting in and helping out with the parties. it is actually kinda fun as it is a change from the norm

  • Can your house/garage fit 32 kids + siblings + parents? I only let my kids have their parties at home to save money (3 kids = 3 parties each year). We've been to a few maccas bday parties and they're not worth the money imo, the rooms we've been in were tiny as well.

  • +4

Thank you all for your responses and suggestions. The party was a great success. It was pouring outside so good thing we moved it from the park. Thanks to MacDonald’s for letting us use the party room at no additional cost. The magician was a hit and we bought burgers, chips and nuggets for all the kids who loved it. We had drinks for the kids and food for the adults (cheeses dips and crackers) which we brought ourselves. And of course cake and party bags. Lots of parents bought coffees and other food from MacDonald’s too so I guess it was better for the store for us to be there than not.

Make sure to bring bags for all the paper and food waste so it can all be composted. Ideally, you'd also want to bring reusable cups but that may be difficult to achieve in the required quantities. The amount of waste (and worse yet, McDonald's shameful indifference to the idea of waste reduction) created by these fast food chains is awful, yet morons still flock to them, eat half their meals then leave their mess everywhere.

While councils will generally tell you that straws can't be recycled (apparently due to their propensity to jam machines or something), they're wrong. They're plastic and can thus be stuffed inside other plastic containers such as milk cartons. The takeaway cups are a landfill issue; the plastic and paper from which they're made are irretrievably commingled.

Make sure to bring bags for all the paper and food waste so it can all be composted.

I would also suggest bringing along the worms so the composting can begin immediately.

      • Great idea.

  • If you have 30+ kids, don't try to get them all Happy Meals. Unless you want to bankrupt yourself I guess.

Get giant servings of McNuggets, get Family packs of dozens of hamburgers/cheeseburgers, get soft-serves. Or you can shell out for a Happy Meal each….
