Private Health Insurance for IVF

Been trying to fall pregnant for the past 3 years and my doctor suggested IVF.

I know it’s quite expensive
I’m not with any private health

Should I join so the cost with IVF will be lower
If so which is a good private health to go with that covers IVF and fertility

I’m so clueless right now

Any help will be great

    Where do you live?
I went Puublic. Still cost a bit… but sooo much cheaper than private.

  • private will be more expensive but did you have any private health to cover your out of pocket expenses

On a ruff estimate how much did it cost you all up

    • I did not have private health cover.
It all depends on what you are doing, and what services are around you.

I am in sydney. I would have been paying way less than $1000 an attempt out of pocket.(I knew people paying 5k per attempt

    Private Heath for IVF

I just called Private Heath at the ADF college in Canberra and he is more than happy to make a specific donation to assist your IVF

i think he forgot to change his font to sarcastica….

        Private heath, not health ..

No, Heath is the husband , and a very private man he is.

Go to bulk-billed IVF centre… Primary IVF or low cost IVF centre

Private Health only covers day surgery for egg collection and transfer only.. medicare will normally cover 40-50% of the bill

It's hard to find a good heath that is private. The trees don't tend to grow to high, due to the acidic soil. You are usually naturally exposed. Can I suggest a forest or jungle instead?

    • Had to neg this one. Don’t try so hard next time buddy

      • :( I only wish to see you smile.

Sorry … you only have to say fart and I will pass out laughing

  • Private health will normally have at least a 12 month waiting period of some services like this, have you had a read of the better baby book by David Asprey ? Or the better baby code chris kresser?
It might be worth a try…

Public would be the best way to go if you live in a capital city. Might be a long wait though, but will probably save you 10s or thousands of dollars over the long run if it takes many years to conceive.

You should probably check out sites like bubhub.com.au and the like that have lots of threads on the costs of IVF and the benefits of public vs private etc.

    Best of luck.

Laura11.I won't say too much here,as this is a really sensitive topic, and not one for some comments that may come up.PM me and i can answer a few questions.I will say though, private health insurance isn't a help for a lot of it.

The difficulty with joining now is that you’d have to wait for a period of time to qualify. Regardless of your age, if you’re having difficulties conceiving, the sooner you get the treatment you need better. For some IVF is an instant fix, for others it takes longer. You often hear IVF horror stories when it comes to cost but it really isn’t that bad. Remember that when you see any medical specialist as an outpatient it’s only a Medicare rebate. The hospital cover can apply when you have an egg harvest but that’s probably it. The health cover comes in handy for the actual pregnancy but you can always deliver at a public hospital - generally at less expense. The obstetrician who does the IVF probably won’t be the same but that’s not a big deal. Success rates are important - do some research and get quotes for a standard cycle of IVF and then decide whether one of the bulk billing clinics is for you.

  • Thankyou al for the information I appreciate it

    😘😋

  • Can I just share my experience..

Never thought I would be telling this story on oz bargain of all places !! - but you ( any maybe others) might find it helpful

I was 30 yrs old, with a history of PCOS and endo. After trying to conceive for over 2yrs, and just prior to starting the IVF process my gyno performed hysterosalpingogram (tubal flush). This test checks the patency of the Fallopian tubes. The test came back normal and to our delight I fell pregnant (naturally) within 3months. My gyno said its quite common for women to conceive after the HSG. Apparently the flush can "sweep" any microscopic blockages out of the way. It was covered by my PHI but I believe the cost is around $500. Much cheaper and less traumatic than IVF.

Good luck Laura11. I know how hard it can be.

    • Thankyou for sharing that, I have done the flush maybe 8 months ago and still not luck

I have also taken clomid for the past 7 months still no luck

But thanks for your help :)
