    • Gerry doesn't like us professionals.

    • Franchises. They get hit with the card fees but may not benefit from the sale if the gift card/s are spent at other locations.

I wasn't too happy the last time I took up an AMEX/HN offer. It was the $300 get back $100 one? I didn't even try to buy a gift card. Ordered an item online but I think it was a seconds. It was only after the plumber had installed when we both realised it. I Googled for complaints on this item from people who also bought at HN and it appears HN were knowingly selling a dodgy item for months.

ts AMEX thats forking out the $100 isn't?

No, it would be a $ split between Amex and Harveys… who knows the %s , but it makes no sense for Amex to essentially give free advertising and kick backs to Harveys.

The majority would be Harvey $, hoping to come out ahead on the average spend/profits.

Does anyone know can you buy the HN GC and after the promotion use the GC to buy the Visa Prepaid? Possible?

    • No. HN will not allow you. I tried to do it in the previous promotion, HN said NOT ALLOW.

  • I've got 2 Amex cards enrolled in the offer. If I split a single item $1000 purchase between the 2 cards will I get the $100 credited to both cards or just 1? Am I better off trying to buy a HN gift card with 1 card and paying the remaining amount of purchase with my other Amex? Thanks.

    • Split payment will work fine.

  • -5

When do we get the cash back?

  • HN Chadstone unable to process and visa gift cards this morning. Possibly been blocked from processing them as the lady working couldn't get a clear answer on the phone.

    • Is this physical prepaid visa gift cards? What about Vpay?

      • they both are loaded on the same ePay machine

        • Ah, combined with your comment yesterday, that means it's really nationwide that they have blocked all ePay machines? I was thinking of driving 25kms out to a HN to get more transactions done.

        • +1

          @lilkid28:

vpay and loading physical prepaid visa cards have been taken off the epay machines at the request of Harvey Norman.

        • @jetcam:
I am in Brisbane so no point driving down to other HN?
Where did you find that info?

        • @lufee:

the cashier at the 2nd HN i visited called the epay help desk and was told that those transactions have been disabled at the request of HN. this was for both vpay and physical visa.

        • are Harvey Norman's own gift card loaded on the same ePay machine as Visa gift cards?

        • @madmo: no

        • @spk: thanks, guess buying hn gift cards might still work :)

    • i went to a different HN in vic,
got the system is down, cime back tomorrow
      spiel

  • So we can't buy e gift cards on HN website using Amex cards? Anyone tried and did you get rejected as well?

    • tried 4 orders - 1 got through - other 3 rejected

      • when was this? did you try all at the same time?

        • 3 at once first day. 1 through 2 rejected. tried one yesterday - rejected. and another tonight - rejected

  • Anyone have luck buying actual Harvey Norman gifs cards at the store with an Amex now?

    • try buying it online.

  • +2
    • Castle Hill: Amex not accepted for vPay but is available if purchased using Visa & MasterCard
    • Gordon: vPay not available at all
    • Liverpool: vPay not available at all and will not accept mobile payments (Apple Pay, Android Pay, Samsung Pay)
    • Did you call up or did you visit the three locations physically? If the latter, damn that's effort 👌

      • +1

fyi: I personally visit Liverpool and campbelltown, they refused to sell vpay. I asked Why ? the lady replied, head office ask HN nationwide to stop selling it.

      • +1

I went in stores and asked. I was in the area and had time to kill.

        • That's a long drive from Gordon to Liverpool!

As a HN employee speaking from experience with this offer, we don't necessarily care too much about the T&C's of this offer but we do warn people that there a potential limitations when purchasing certain products (eg. Apple and Gift Cards etc.), purely up to the customer at the point. There is a fair amount of respectful fairplay appreciated with the purchasing though. Once had my manager decline a disgustingly rude customer who tried to price match us with "thin air" (said JB HI FI had a price that they actually didn't). After a whole debacle in which the customer got a quote from JB for a price, we accepted the price match, only to be told he will be paying on five seperate AMEX cards. At that point my manager refused his business. So lesson learned, either play it coy or don't be a dick about it!

    • Thanks for your info. Could you please let us know why HN no longer sell Prepaid Visa Card and vpay card using Amex card after the Amex offer started?

      • -4

        Fraud

        • +1

I am not asking for your opinion, Turd. I am asking leadehh for their inside info because I am interest in HN's decision making process. Let's be mature and not calling names.

    • +5

      Was probably someone from here.

      • …with one pocket full of Eneloops, the other full of Xiaomi motion sensors and grumbling about remembering when ING Direct had the 5% cashback offer…

    • Where do you work ? You willing to sell gC to us with Amex? HN gC I am talking about.

  • +1

Garden city Mt gravatt has refused any &all sort of gift card if using Amex to buy.
But asked the lady at cashier of I buy a $2000 item and she checked with manager that they will accept multiple Amex split payment as long as you buy there and no refunds or change of mind.

They want their business and money so will accept multiple Amex I guess

    • +3

Well done. Don't think they can flat out refuse any refunds though (like for faulty goods), that would be against ACL I'm pretty sure.

    • they will accept multiple Amex split payment as long as you buy there and no refunds or change of mind.

      I Lol'ed.

Let's see how the ACCC likes them if they refuse.

      • They're allowed to refuse change of mind (unless they have a published policy otherwise).
"No refunds" could get them in hot water though.

  • I went to Chadstone and Moorabbin today hoping to get some visa gift cards but no luck. I was told they don't carry them. Amex was not even mentioned. I have registered my 7 cards luckily. Do you think if we wait a couple of weeks they may start selling them again?

    • +2

Pretty sure they will. The promotion doesn't end till end of year …So once the storm is over…..Grass will turn green again

      • Christmas Eve or day or two before and Boxing day, hopefully.

  • I went to 2 Harvey Normans in Sydney today. They had big signs up saying no gift cards can be purchased using AMEX. An email had been sent from head office to all stores.

  • With HN's great effort to stop people from buying GC using AmEx at the cashier, one conclusion I think I can draw: once you get the transactions through then no matter you are getting all sort of excluded items, such as GC, Apple gear, etc, cashback is guaranteed and they can't do anything about it. Otherwise, they can just relax, happily sell you the stuff and then deny all cashbacks for those items.

    • -6

      Fraud

      • If you think using this offer to buy GC, Apple products is fraud, you may as well put your comment on every post that ACTUALLY doing it. I am trying to speculate the reason HN did what they did and draw a conclusion from that.

        • -6

Too many people using frauded amex and too hard to keep track due to different systems

        • @Turd: Surely they couldn't take a leaf out of Westfield's book and ask for photo ID to ensure that the ID is the same as the cardholder name on the AMEX?

        • +3

@kerfuffle: that's asking them to do too much work!!!

          Lol

        • @Turd:

I agree no one wants extra work after doing 7-8 split payments of $400 transactions.

  • I have a few cards enrolled for this offer, if anyone in Perth needs to buy something at HN, send me a PM and we can have a chat.

  • just bought 5 $400 gift card with no problem. email received immediately

  • +2

I guess unless you are going ti buy something, these credits arent really worth it

    • +1

1k off a OLED tv over Christmas/ Boxing Day sales for me 👍🏾👍🏾

    • The VPay was definitely worth it

      • I believe they're either stopping or refusing to sell these either
        I've been rejected twice

        • For people that got in early they're loving it right now.

  • +7

Just an FYI for anyone wondering, the credit did not work for me when I put an order through on the Harvey Norman Business & Education portal via Cashrewards - didn't receive the "You've just used your Offer" email and didn't want to risk waiting too long, so emailed to cancel the order shortly after. The transaction came through as "Harvey Norman Business and Education" on my card, so it must be processed and recognised separately from the normal online store.

  • Bought a Harmony Elite and Google Home Mini for $400 (matched the Elite for $329 at PLE), so $300 for both after the cashback - happy days :)

  • +2

Just wondering if a split card payment still counts as one transaction, for Amex phone screen insurance purposes?

  • So just to confirm HN gift card can be bought?
$500 for $400 is good value, can then price match to make HN a decent price

  • -2

Dam I missed out on this offer!
I saw it on OzBargain and kept following it but was waiting for my Amex card to show up in the mail to register!

Wish it came earlier to get this. On another note Amex reps were nice and friendly. I applied Thursday and got my card sent express post (PER) and arrived today.

Currently no other offers available for me to sign up in Amex offers :( :saddays:

  • Has anyone received the credit ? I have just received one credit out of three purchases made on the 6th Nov.

    • Which bank are you with? Still waiting for credit for purchase of Prepaid Visa gift card on 6th Nov.

      • All purchases made with amex essential cards

  • -1

For anyone interested, even though 3 of my 4 orders got rejected and refused, all 4 cards show the $100 credit applied :)

    • Lol

    • did they charge $400 on those cards and then reversed the transaction ?

      • Correct. Showed as a pre auth first. Then a refund. Then the transaction. Then the credit! That will teach Harvey to be stupid about not selling GCs via Amex!

        • It happened to me last time with a DJ refund, Amex took back the credit.

        • Last year, they cancelled one of my order and they took back the credit!

        • +1

From memory, they took back the credit with Hotels.com offer when I cancelled my order.

  • Anyone know how to get Harvey Normans Live Chat to open. I've tried on Safari on my phone and IE/Google Chrome on my computer.

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/customer-service/live-chat

I click the start now button but nothing happens.

    • Actually don't worry got it working on iPhone!

  • Just got back from HN in Maribyrnong. Was after the S8 and had 2 Amex cards registered with the deal.

Got the phone at $988 and received the notification that I had redeemed so looks good so far. Checked the pending transactions are both are showing purchase from HARVEY NORMAN S/STORE MARIBYRNONG.

Loving having an Aus stock s8 for $788. Great deal!!

Edit: Should have added that they had no issues splitting the invoice across 2 cards so $494 on each. Ended up with a huge receipt though :/

    • +2

Ended up with a huge receipt though :/

It's alright, the women behind you in line must've thought you're a high roller ;)

      • +3

I think she thought how desperate is this guy to have to split it over 2 cards :) #ozbargainer4life

  • Just gave a pre-order of iPhone X today using AMEX split over 4 cards paying in full. Wonder if screen insurance will be a problem? But all emails received successfully and hopefully no problems. Not sure when they will have stock but don’t mind waiting especially when there’s a potential saving of this amount. Lady was first refusing to split with 4 cards, but when I asked why she couldn’t give a valid reason and then did the split payments anyway. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly!

    • +1

Can I ask which store it is?

  • -2

are you allowed to buy a hn e-card and then with the e card purchase a $500 visa card after amex promo has ended?

  • +1

Credit has finally appeared this morning on my CBA issued Amex card for purchase of Prepaid Visa card on 6 Nov.

  • +1

Credit on 2 AMEX issues and 2 Bank issues AMEX ($400) for MacBook received this morning.

  • +1

Credit on all 7 cards after purchasing 7 x $500 (plus $5.95) Prepaid Visa Gift Cards (at HN Sunshine VIC) has come through. I purchased them on Monday and Received the credit today (although I note that on some of the accounts, it looks like I got it on Wednesday but I know from snapshots I took that it really was not there on that day. I assume it was 'there' but in the background being processed from a system perspective.

    • Is HN Sunshine still selling Prepaid Visa Gift Card or it’s been stopped nationwide as others mentioned?

      • I think it would have stopped by now. I mentioned in my original post near the top of Page 1 that you needed to get in pretty quick to be able to score these deals (as well as select slightly more regional HN centers) and I think that as per what usually happens, Head Office shuts down the Prepaid VISA option for a while but I think you might still get lucky with the odd HN Gift Card at other stores.

    • good on you mate!

  • Anyone not get a confirmation email after purchase??? Cos I didn't get any..

    • Does your receipt say it was Harvey Norman or something like Domayne?

      • Huh? Tax receipt from Harvey Norman? It says Harvey Norman of course..

        • +4

The reason why I ask is because sometimes the HN/Domayne furniture stores swap around POS terminals and so some people get Domayne receipts which are not valid.
As you got normal HN ones I would just make sure you kept a copy of your CC receipt and just scan and send a copy to Amex. Will be looked into within two business days.

        • @danielh: ah cool thanks bro

  • Just checking. If I had saved the offer already, I still have time to buy whenever (as long as it's before the 31/12/2017) right? The online chat guy at HN said it's the first 40K people to use the offer and doesn't matter if I saved the offer.

    • +2

first 40k who saved the offer are eligible to redeem this offer
