Free Nespresso Coffee @ Westfield Parramatta NSW

90

Nespresso is promoting their new vertuo coffee pod system at Parramatta Westfield and is providing free coffee samples. Coffee comes in a plastic coffee cup with lid which you can probably reuse.

  • So YACPS (yet another coffee pod system), YMI (yet more incompatibilities), and YMW (yet more wastes).

What's the excuse? The dome shaped pod draws in cosmic energy and infuses it into every cup of coffee? Or simply "our patent ran out on the old pod design"?

They spin the pod at vtec speeds of 7k rpm now to create a centrifuge. I bet to up the DRM game and make it impossible to create reusable pods.

Edit: funny you mentioned patent. The lady actually mentioned something along the lines of "there's nobody else that will have this design for a while until the patent ends in 25 years"

    • The pod has a barcode around the edge that tells the machine how fast to spin it, the pressure to punch the water through it at, the brew time, and the temperature.

      K-Cups on steroids.

Tried these in the Perth store out of curiosity. The sales person there explained that this new system is to replicate the "taste" of percolated coffee. As opposed to the pods which replicate the taste of espresso coffee.

Why anyone would want simulated percolated coffee however is beyond me.

I like percolated coffee, and a lot of ppl in the USA too

        • +1

It's lovely that you like a lot of people in the USA :)

        • @Spooked: very clever

        • Then just use a percolator and coffee grounds?
It's not like it is as complex as achieving a good espresso draw.
And surely it is 1/10th the cost of using an all new Nespresso system in the long run?

As you were there……how did it taste ?

    • Not really a coffee aficionado. I tried the vanilla pod, it's rather strong, didn't taste burnt and had lots of cremar. I guess it's ok considering it's about $1.05 a pod.

      • High quality coffee beans at full price are generally $30 a kilo that's about 22cents per cup… I don't understand paying so much more to lock yourself in to a system where you continue overspending on coffee.

  • Nespresso always free to try but the only exception I saw is the Nespresso at Bondi.

    • Went to Bondi last sunday and it was free to taste as well

      • Is it from the Nespresso at the lowest level?

I didn't ask because I saw they have price like a cafe.

Always been free to try @ Doncaster, VIC.

  • Tried it last week at Chadstone and was pretty unimpressed. Wife threw hers out. If you like a long black, then this might be for you.

  • They are giving them out at Robina as well - the full size takeaway cup is reusable

  • I read reviews that mentioned the taste was worse and that it wasn’t able get as hot as original capsules. So no change from me.

    • vote for the free reusable coffee cup

Yeah Nespresso always offers free coffee, even when you are walking past.

I like the original system I have, I cannot see myself changing. Coffee around work is crap, so it makes sense, plus its kind of free.

  • Perth city is doing this as well

  • Nespresso at highpoint have free coffee tasting from their new vertuo machines.
