I vote we boycott steam for charging different prices for the US/UK vs australia, for example, black opps 80USD in AUD, 50 USD in the US

    fallout Vagas, $50 US/UK, AUD 90 dollars!

i'm now seriously considering the direct2drive solution, which offers the same price as the US based steam, steam AU is nothing but a rip off! i dont see why we should be paying more for the same game… considering starting a boycott steam webpage with a list of the different prices.

but pretty good for only 2.50… typically i only buy 75% off games which brings them down to a reasonable price.

    • Bad Company 2 is normally 20 USD in the US store as well!

Steam doesn't set prices, the publishers do.

I can't imagine Valve are about to put a stop to publishers charging different prices as they would probably just go elsewhere.

Either way, Valve don't charge extra for their own games in different regions, so why would you boycott their own games?

      • true, but then why doesn't direct 2 drive have those same issues?

        • They don't because they just prevent us from buying the game altogether!
Of course all it takes to circumvent this is a VPN or a friend in the US.

    • I wouldn't boycott Steam but I do buy games elsewhere when I can get a better price. Recently picked up Dragon Age + Awakening for AU$35 through gamersgate.co.uk (~$110 on Steam). That's the whole point of a free market economy. :) It's a little inconvenient to have accounts at a few different sites but I save a lot of money.

  • This game wasn't bad, but people rarely play it now.

    • What people? I still play DoD:s occasionally.

      • I may have been thinking of DoD not DoD:s.

  • mayeby its due to tarrifs, i doubt the publishers are getting more for the game in different countries. I only use steam because its unlimited bandwidth to download from.

    • its not like australia has a game development industry. so why wud there be a tarriff? tariffs are there to protect local suppliers/producers, which we have none. we are the land of the mangoes, bannanas and wool. we only need tariffs on physical imports of goods which we produce here

  • Steam is great. Sure we get shafted a lot for some games but when they're on par with the US/UK, you can get great bargains. What I do when games are jacked up for us is just get them off ebay from the US or UK since they'll often be a lot cheaper. Some games can be activated on Steam anyway. For example, Metro 2033 is $49.99 USD on Steam but I got it for $10 off ebay and just activated the cd key on Steam. Voila, same thing.
