Nintendo Switch HORIPAD Wired Controller $36 (down from $59.95) at EB Games Pick-up in Store

190

Hey fellow OzB's, I'm a first time poster but long time follower so please correct me if I have missed anything in my post.

I bought a Nintendo Switch yesterday from Harvey Norman using the amex deal (special thanks to that OP)and was looking around for additional controllers. A few Google searches and I found that eB Games were selling the Switch wired controllers for $39! Bought 2 for myself to use at home. I personally think the joycons are too small if 2 people are playing so I opted for wired controllers instead. Definitely the cheaper option especially when you have friends over to play!

Hope this post will be of some use to you guys :).

  • I bought one of the Hori Pads to play BotW and isaac.
It works fine, no frills design with no rumble or motion sensing.
Feels better in the hand than the Joycons in their controller.
For the price I think this is a good deal.

  • Is it compatible with PC? Does it use USB?

No HD Rumble……. are you kidding?

  • +3

You're missing out on HD Rumble and motion sensing by buying these controllers, these are two big factors, especially in Nintendo first party games.

Not a big fuss on my end. The controllers are handy to keep as a spare or for when I have friends over to play 4 player games such as Mario kart. I have played at my friend's place with one joy con and it's pretty uncomfortable after playing for a while.

      • Yeah single Joycon is servicable, nothing more though.

  • In my experience 3rd party controllers are never as good as the official ones.

    • Well thats sort of a given. 3rd party controllers generally speaking are cheaper & lack either build quality or in this case features. Not a bad price for a controller you give to the kids or vistors though.

    • Captain Obvious over here, everyone! Do you want to come to my party? PSYCH! JUST KIDDING! HAHAHA!

Hori make great gear, but as above the lack of motion sensing kills it for quite a few games.

  • Not too interested in wired controllers but has anyone seen a good deal on some of the pro controllers or even joycons?

  • +2

If you're interested in a wired controller. Big W have the Power A controller for sale at $40. I watched a review/teardown on YouTube and apparently it's infinitely better than this Hori pad.

Big W website sucks but these are the Controllers I'm talking about.

  • Do these controllers all work with Mario Kart on Switch?

I'm still perplexed how the controller limitations work… i.e. my wife and I both have to use Joycons since we only have one pro controller? i.e. we can't have one person using a pair of Joycons in the grip, and the other person using a Pro.

I have done that countless times. There's a whole menu dedicated to controller order and setups, and allows for a lot of choice, dude.

If you don't know where it is and genuinely want help, just reply and I'll explain it better.

      • I ended up experimenting with the menus after reading this and realised that you can get a pair of Joycons + Pro controller to work (so thanks!), but not sure if I can get two pairs of Joycons to work for local split screen - would be nice to know before I buy but this is a bit off topic.

I gave big dubleya my money for the official pro controller. Worth the purchase, especially for botw

  • I was pretty tempted, but I'm going fine with my my Mayflash NS Special.

Definitely recommend one of those if you're not digging corded remotes. I had the Zelda corded remote, it felt great, but I got sick of the cord. I had the Pokken remote before that, sick of the cord. Ended up lashing out and got the Mayflash not too long ago, sync it up with my Wii U Pro Controller and it's the bees knees.

Not knocking anyone grabbing this remote, it looks quite cool and I dig the dpad stuff it does in particular, but I love my Mayflash, lets you hook up PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and many more different controllers, and it's fully wireless too.

The Mayflash can be bought for around 25 bucks or so on eBay too, so prices are relatively comparable, but if you don't have a spare lying around this could be a better option anyway, but tbh I was never gonna use that Wii U controller again.
