[PC] Various Games at $4 + $9.06 Shipping @ EB Games - Online

510

First deal posted here. EB Games has started the Christmas season with good deals especially on their PC front. Below are several games with $4 price tag:

As a frequent observer of IsThereAnyDeal.com, I believe these games smashed their previous historical low prices.

The In-Store option is available, but buying online might be better especially in bulk as EB Games has a flat shipping rate. This means you could effectively bring the shipping fee down to ~$1.2/game.

EDIT: Might be a good idea to cross-check the game prices before buying. Some Limited Editions were reported to have better prices than their base game counterparts.

EDIT2: Reworded the info about shipping cost.

My bad, should be fixed by now. Cheers.

  • Which one worth $4?

BTW, I think pick up in store is free, right?

    • Depends on what your preferences are. The ones I've listed are games that probably won't reach $4 normally, making me think that they're worth it.

Pick up at store is free but only possible if the store has one in stock.

      • Thanks

The closest store with COD in stock is 700km from me XDD.

    Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Cheap cause of Kevin Spacey's mug in it ;)

Well, I've got the other campaigns on Steam, may as well play this one as well!

  • +7

    Gotta love this pricing logic:

    Anno 2070: $9
    Anno 2070 Complete (including all DLC/expansion): $4

    • +8

      That's not the only one:

It's EB Games being EB Games, I guess. Might be a good idea to crosscheck the other pricing before buying.

      • -7

Both of those prices are a rip off - I played it for free on Origin years ago.

        • How?

        • +1

@FireRunner: Several On The House promotions in the past, I believe.

        • -1

          @FireRunner:

It was free for 7 days, which was enough time for me to finish the campaign.

        • +1

@FireRunner: He's right. It's costs an infinite amount more to buy it compared to what he paid.

        • @FireRunner:

If it matters to you, you can play BF4 for 10 game hours as a trial, which is pretty sweet.

        • @89percentauthentic:

Wow, this is a permanent thing now?? The original 1 week free play offer was in 2014, but then it disappeared.

  • +2

Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Edition - $4. Nice!

    • Rip off because of free trial?

      • Free trial only pops up occasionally, and lasts for only 4 days.

        • Yeah, it looks pretty tasty. If you can find a local copy.

Do PC games usually come with a DVD or do they have a download code?

    • DVD can hold about 8.5GB - most games are 40GB+ these days, requiring 4-5 discs. Blu-ray would make a lot more sense.

      • Yes, technically I should have said discs, but do they have discs or download codes these days?

        • +1

They usually have both in a single packaging. However the discs are not really useful unless you are trying to save some bandwidth, as you still have to download the game later on.

      • Because of all of those people with Blu-Ray players in their PCs? The only PC-based Blu-Ray player I have is in a ~6 year old laptop.

I've built literally dozens of PCs since then and never installed any kind of drive.

        • -1

People don't put in blu-ray drives because games are not coming out on blu-ray. It's kind of the same problem that existed when DVD-ROM drives came out. Games weren't being released on DVD for ages because not enough people had the drives, but people wouldn't buy the drives because nothing was coming out on DVD. Also, for some reason, blu-ray drives are still very expensive despite being available for 10 odd years. They really should be at DVD-RW prices already - $30 or less, and everyone would buy one.

    • +3

They do come with a DVD. But they're basically only a glorified download code. You can install some parts of the game with the disc, but you're still required to download the games in the end.

      • +3

Thanks. Felt really weird asking the question but I see I'm not the only one wondering.

    • +2

Basically it includes a download code which you redeem on Steam, Uplay or Origin.
You can use the disc to install the game. Most of the time it includes a single disc which contains only part of the full game so you have to download the rest through Steam/Uplay/Origin.

      • Oh? Do store bought games usually come with a steam code?

  • +4

A silly question here, do I need an optical drive or do they come with some sort of keys that I can redeem and download?

    • +6

No question is a silly question. :)

You don't really need any optical drives for this. Modern PC games come with a disc and a download code which you can redeem on Steam (mostly) or uPlay/Origin (Ubisoft and EA games). You're still required to download the game, even if you install with the disc. This is why most physical PC games are now glorified download codes.

      • Nice, gonna grab some. Cheers :)

      • So most are one time use? Can you say give the disc to a friend so they can play as well?

        • One time use only. You can't give the disc to a mate (otherwise it'll be the easiest way to pirate).

        • Yes, most of them are one time use only because they use download codes. In fact, I can't think of any well-known retail PC game that is DRM Free (apart from buying it from GOG of course). This might also be the reason why PC games are way cheaper than console games.

So yeah, no disc swapping with friends unfortunately.

        • @RichJoker:

That sucks! It explains why there is no pre owned market for PC games and why they aren't as collectible.

        • @Circly: That's why GOG gains a massive boost in popularity nowadays, with their DRM Free policy and all.

On one side, obtaining less expensive PC games are easy, but the physical versions are not valuable at all.

You can also get Brave New World for $4, much cheaper than their current sale on steam if you want the whole collection :)

$8 for complete Civ 5, that's pretty good value

        • DON'T BUY IT FROM EB! Civ 5 Complete Edition is currently $1.32USD on Steam. Complete includes both major expansions.

          @Ryugen:

Civ 5 is $19.97 USD on sale ,, not sure were you got $1.32 from

        • @Most Wanted:

Ohh i see what happened, it takes off all the games I already have and throws me a "remaining" price for the little pieces I don't have. Thanks for pointing it out haha.

  • Massive differences from Anno 2070 and the Anno 2070 Complete Edition for a casual player?

    • +1

Those extras are extra campaigns and a lot of fun they are too.

      • +1

Thank you! I ordered the Complete Edition online, $13.74 delivered as opposed to $9 for a standard copy locally.

        • I thought the game and DLCs were brilliant.

Is it the delivery that brings that price up so high?

        • +2

@FabMan: Sounds great! Never played an Anno game before but I loved Age of Empires, C&C etc.. Do you think I should also pick up XCOM + Civ 5 bundle @ $4?

Yeah unfortunately postage pretty much kills it, but hey least its the Complete Edition!

        • @ThePriceMatchGuy:

          For $13.74 again?

Civ 5 with the expansions is fantastic, by itself, it is lacking. Playing it knowing I was missing out on a better experience would bother me and I'd enjoy it less. XCOM is great by itself.

You could get that bundle, enjoy XCOM now and then get the Civ 5 expansions in a Steam sale?

        • @FabMan: My local EB has a copy of the Double Pack in store so it would only end up being $4! But I get what you mean about playing the inferior version of a game.. Just knowing there is a better and complete edition would be annoying.. I may just dust off the old C&C games while I wait for my Anno 2070 Complete to arrive!

        • +1

@ThePriceMatchGuy: At work, so some sites are blocked. Check the price here, on Google search it says 92% off:

          https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=we…

and here is usually good prices:

          https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/sid-meiers-civilization…

I can't tell what they are.

        • +1

@ThePriceMatchGuy: If it's not too late for you, bulk home delivery is where the deal's at. EB Games has a flat shipping rate if it's delivered from the same location (the way you'll know about this is the ETA date of the items in your cart). With this, I effectively brought the delivery cost to ~$1.2/game. Apparently the shipping cost increases at certain points, but I'm not really informed about it.

        • @ThePriceMatchGuy:

Yes, XCOM is an amazing game :)

  • Mine postage is $10.31 (Standard Post)

    • +1

It's probably because your cart has more than 8 or 9 items.

      • Oh yeah bought too many. Thanks.

Just wondering whether JB will price match CoD Advanced Warfare $4 since no stock nearby.

    • I tried to price match JB. Too cheap for them to price match.

      • Seem also sold out online.

        • In store only. WA has a copy according online store check

      • They said no stock in store

  • +1

SimCity @ $4, also the expansion. SimCity

  • Check the CoD population before you buy. Don't waste $4 on a game with a peak of 198 players. If you still have MW2, stick with it. :D
    http://www.callofdutyview.net/content/call-of-duty-peak-play…

    • +4

$4 for single play I think still worth it.

  • Any PC CoD in the sale that have couch co-op?

    • Splitscreen on COD still exists in the console versions, but unfortunately not in any PC versions at all.

    • The only PC CoD game with split screen play is Black Ops 3, which conveniently isn't on sale

  • +1

    Nier: Automata - PS4 - $47 is a pretty good price :)

  • Do we still need to keep the disc inserted in order to play these days?

    • +1

Not if it uses Steam. You don't even need to install from disc, just type the key into Steam and download it.

I would like Physical media if they actually put some effort into the cases, for example I have Jade Empire case on show, but anything with the (profanity) horrible Games for Windows at the top gets thrown.

  • Dying Light confuses me… Is The Following just DLC or a whole new rebuild? (Mainly, is this version worth playing?)

  • If anyone sees a copy of Dying Light in their local store, I'd love if they could buy me a copy and post it to me. Obviously I'd pay for game and post costs.

Edit: Or just message me the steam cd code.

  • Saw Dying Light yesterday on Xbox One for $4 but passed on it cause I only have a 360. Was gone when I looked for it later.
Got Borderlands triple pack, Halo Wars, Batman Origins and Escape Dead Island for xbox 360 all $4 plus postage ($25.74) delivered.

  • Just wondering whether we can call the store with stock to buy the key from them over the phone?

  • I just got jbhifi to price match Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. Their original price was $70, showed them the ebgames website and boom they matched it. However it only worked at the second jbhifi store I went to, while the first one said that they couldn't match it. So it really depends on the manager at the store. If you really want that good deal just visit and ask, as nearly all the eb games stores I visited were out of stock of the games I wanted. Happy hunting

You are lucky, the one I tried the staff won't match, even by that time it shows in stock in store but not nearby.

      • Yeah, just got to try another one because it is ultimately the managers decision
