  • any one used this? any good?

    • I got one in the last sale https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/318254. It's pretty good - all you have to do is measure the flour/egg/water and the machine does the rest. It takes about 20 minutes. Even better if you have a dishwasher, coz the parts are all dishwasher safe. The only downside is that they haven't released new attachments yet, so you're stuck with penne, fettucine and spaghetti.

    • Yes, but this is a more compact version from before, which makes less in one batch. Also, it does not come with the attachment to make thin Chinese noodles. Perhaps wait for a special on the higher-end models which comes with many discs included for making different things (the auto-weigh model has been on special before, with cashbacks on top of that).

      • But can you buy additional discs?

        • Yes, for $30 per set. So depending on what you use it for, perhaps check the Philips website for each model to see what gets you better value.
Sorry, I stand corrected. Discs for this model are incompatible with the other models.

        • @Make it so: No you can't currently buy additional discs. If you look at the attachments for the bigger machine, they look different to and won't fit on this machine. Philips haven't released any for this machine yet.

        • @YadaYadaYada: Thanks for that correction. Not sure why Phillips would change to a different standard.

    • I was hesitant to buy but after using it, I love it. Need to make sure that the flour to water ratio is correct, which is not that difficult. I always weigh the flour and also add the water (with egg) very slowly and it comes out well.

After using a cheap Kmart one that did a ok job never again… Cleaning the holes on the pasta extrusion Disks is a task I'll save for when I finally go to hell…

    • +3

There is a trick: freeze the discs and/or let them dry out. It comes off easily.
The Chinese noodle discs come with a tool to prick through the holes for cleaning, though if you let it dry it comes out easily anyway. It's not too bad to clean.

but does it taste much better than 90c pasta at coles?

    • It's a different taste to that pasta. The 90c packets are dried pasta, wheras this is fresh pasta. You'll have to try both to compare.

but what if i spend $100 and dont like it :o

        Edit $139!!

        • +1

Lol not suggesting you go buy the machine to try it.

Go try it at a restaurant first, or buy fresh pasta from a supermarket!

    • +1

YES. Fresh pasta always taste much better and has a more "bouncy" chew to it.

    • absolutely, but if you're a true ozbargainer you'd just make the pasta on your bench, roll it out by hand, and cut it with a knife.

couldn't be simpler - unlike making bread dough its almost completely idiot proof.

    • in italy dried pasta is considered the good stuff. the idea of making your own fresh pasta is what funny foreigners do.

    $30 cashback,https://www.philips.com.au/c-w/promotions/kitchen-appliances-2017-xmas-cash-back.html

    • Thanks and updated.

  • I bought the higher model of this, and I abosolutely hate their cashback system. I never got my intended $50.00 the website made it appear as if I didn't provide correct bank details and then they send you this months later via snail mail.
So there's some work for that cashback if it's the same as previous one.

  • Thanks OP. It worked beautifully. Takes a bit of time to clean the parts and containers, so I would make more the next time I use it and freeze the extra. The $30 cashback (if it works) would be a great bonus. It was a pain to find the claim form through Philips website so the direct link below might be handy to those looking for it:

  • Now down to $129, $99 after cashback, have updated.

  • DJs price matched this so I added a couple of things to get the AMEX $3O back for $150 spend.
