      • Really? Now I have GPS only for navigation. Where's the competition?? I don't need think only one company should have majority market share

        • You can buy it elsewhere for ~$90

        • +1

          @omgitzrick: $80 through JB Hi-Fi if you're a Telstra customer

  • You can get a smart phone and put an app on it for old people making the ui super easy to use. There are many on play store. For everyone else, no-one would last five minutes using this phone. The funny part is the 32GB memory, no idea what for.

    • Memory is for MP3s (review said have to load music from computer onto memory card to use music player) & photos from camera.

      • +2

My mistake, it's 32Mb of memory with a sd card slot of up to 32Gb. Thanks Infidel.

        • Also plenty of room for downloaded Java games & simple Java apps.
So much easier & more flexible to use a Smart Phone.

  • Will my HRT 3310 phone cover fit this phone?

  • +4

great first phone for kids, put in a long life sim and they can call you or you them or text. some kids are of an age you want them to have an emergency phone but not a smart phone which sucks them into screen time, and they don’t need to charge it every one or 2 days like a smart phone.

also small enough to carry in jacket with a zipped pocket, etc.

my 10 year old has had a phone since he was 6 for emergencies but the bulk of a smart phone was always an issue, had this been available i would have got him one at that age.

it’s small robust and can send or receive calls.

There have been keypad mobiles available at good prices for a long time, like the Telstra Cruise currently sold for $9 at Coles. $10 include credit. Locked to Telstra & probably only can be used on Telstra, Aldi, etc even after unlocking. Gets good comments for being robust, light at 70g, & good battery life.

But few get excited by the Cruise as it lacks the nostalgia value of this phone.

(I've still got a working 2G 3310. Tried it on Optus before it shut down 2G. Could never go back to this ancient tech & use a numeric keyboard for text. Far too frustrating & useless for me. OK for calls & short SMS, but I rarely use a mobile for that.)

      • Coles is selling the $9 Telstra cruise atm, but it's not possible to unlock. I bought three for young grandkids six months ago, unlocked them for about $3, bought aldi Sims for $5 which last one year. Great emergency phone as it's so light and battery lasts days. The new batch are not unlockable unfortunately.

Telstra's cheapest long term sim is $30 I think for six months.

        • Yes, link to current deal above. Others report can be unlocked (eg using DC-Unlocker). But useless on non-Telstra networks due to limited bands. Then can use Aldi 12 month SIM.

Wait for Telstra Starter Pack deals for much cheaper price on SIM ($10-15). Connect to Longlife plan & change to Simplicity for cheaper calls. But check on Whirlpool first as Telstra has closed most loopholes.

Even using Telstra when on special, connection for a year & phone can be as cheap as $29. Of course if you want only incoming calls, use the free $2 SIMs in deals here - phone, $10 credit & unlimited incoming calls for $9😠

    • Exactly what I'm doing. The reviews on this re durability and use have been great, the kids love the look, feel and options on them and you can whack in a $65-100 365 day pre paid from a multitude of providers and have it as an emergency/sometimes/on call work phone.

Sure, many on here will complain it's still 'too expensive' but not everyone outside of Ozbargain-land care about paying a few extra $ to get something that simply pleases them.

      • you can whack in a $65-100 365 day pre paid from a multitude of providers

It's locked to Vodafone! Unlocking may be possible at a price.
Might be able to install SIMs using the Vodafone network (eg Kogan) without unlocking - am doing that with a free locked Vodafone Android mobile.

It's not that it is expensive, it just lacks basic features most (even children) have come to expect in 2017, like useful apps, easy text entry, easy to use browser, etc.

        • I put a Kogan sim into a vodafone locked phone and it actually worked. But you can't put an aldi sim into telstra locked phoone.

  • Looking for a new phone, should I get this or the iPhone X?

    • +2

gday mate, go old school for your communication tech needs & impress your friends. Grab 2 tin cans & piece of string😀

    • ROFL!!!!!!!!!!

    • What are your uses and what are you like as a user?

If you're a person who never/rarely damages a smart phone, has heaps of disposable and feels like they 'must have' all the bells and whistles? Then a smart phone.

If you're a person that can't get through a night on the town without dropping your phone in the loo, dropping your phone at work (which happens to be a building site) or you need to take our a personal loan for a $1000+ phone, then be realistic - a phone is a phone, get the Nokia.

I've got an iPhone and a Nokia 3310 - honestly, more people ask me about the Nokia than the iPhone - just in case you think people will think less of you for having an $80 phone :)

Is this the legendary one that cant stand nuclear blast?

  • Oooooooooohhhh yeaaaaaaaah baaaaaaaaby i waant yoooooooooooooouuuuuuu
    Fk u Gooble!
    Viva la revolution

  • Is this locked to Vodafone as a provider or will any sim on the Vodafone network work with the phone?

  • +1

I'm very tempted. I've a school kid who is a bit too brilliant on youtube (with attendant lack of attention and tendency to narrate). This could be a great emergency phone just in case. The fact its very dumb is a good selling point. Now to research if I can lock the numbers it dials or sends messages to.

  • Fark, dual sim. TEMPTED. Can chuck in my roaming sims only for txt verifications. Heck.

  • Wow this is cheap!!! Considering ebay is selling them for $100+++

  • -2

    Free to unlock?

    • $50 in first 6m
Or $25 after that if you get Vodafone to do it.

  • I don't know why these are out unless back up phone in a glovebox, we are to spoilt with smart phone, take forever to type a message on this thing LOL I'm so used to swyping now……No APPS :(

  • no wifi no deal

  • Google “DC unlocker” for unlocking details.

Interestingly I got a dumb phone from the True carrier in Thailand recently for 99baht (A$4.00). Better than this without the nostalgia. Got unecessary spare battery and a headset. I bought it to use the FM Radik built in when I go walking. Awesome deal! Came with 100minutes of calls too!

  • +1

Be aware, it probably only allows one SIM on 3G at a time. The second SIM will be 2G only. Making the dual SIM functionality useless in Australia.

There is also some confusion about which frequencies are supported by the dual sim version. Nokia's website is ambiguous:

    Network and connectivity
    Network speed 3G
    Dual band 900/1800 MHz +3G Band 1 and 8
    (Single-SIM) Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 + 3G Band 1, 2, 5, 8

So the dual SIM version is the first set of frequencies/bands??? Who knows!

  • nope.. i like my burner phones contract free..

    • +1

This phone is not on a contract.

  • 123 votes, it's happening…

  • Enjoy the 5 minute nostalgia kick

  • Any info on whether this is in-store only?

    • Yeah I’m store only.

  • Bad news guys, I think the phone is single SIM as per the product page

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/vodafone-nokia-3310/p/656716…

My guess is some marketing guy screwed up (its not "16GB" as shown in the catalogue either) but we'll find out tomorrow.

    • Yeah, pretty sure it is single sim. I went to Coles they have currently on offer too, $59 and when I checked, it didn't say what sim it is but it seems to me its a single sim…

  • is this phone unlocked? Can I use a kogan sim?

    • Locked to Vodafone, you would need to unlock it to use with Kogan

      • Kogan is on Vodafone network. I'm using Kogan with a locked Vodafone Android mobile.

        • +1

Can confirm the one i got from Coles needed unlocking for Kogan
was able to get a local store to unlock without me having to pay a fee (they sent an email or something )

        • +1

          @jimbobaus:
Must be different set up with this phone.
Good - thanks for all your work on this deal!

Might want to give more details of your free unlocking!!

    • Confirm working with Kogan mobile. Just need to find the juicy details of unlocking the phone!

  • +2

    Eastland Ringwood sold out now.
    Phone is SINGLE sim.
They have correction notice at tech counter.

  • Two left at Melbourne QV, good luck

  • I need credit for this phone, I make very few calls/texts and I don't need data, would anyone know of a good option, preferably long expiry? Aldi 365 day prepaid, or something else?

    • +1

You could stick with Vodafone. Their lowest recharge is $10 a year I believe. It would save you from having to unlock the handset too.
