  • Hs never accepted my amex cards.

    • Maybe they now do, hence this offer. Zumbo didn't take AMEX either until recently and let us know by letting cardmembers take advantage of a Statement Credit twice.

  • Yay !!!

"Build A Bear" is still available !!!

The next question is: Does Build-a-bear sell gift cards or prepaid Visa cards? :-)

  • Went to top Ryde Harris Scarfe, buying $50 Visa + $10 Harris GC, but was told I can’t pay with one bill when they try to process the payment. I think they are just not familiar. And also they only find out they can’t process there VISA GC because they didn’t scan the $5.95 processing fee.
At the end, I just get $60 Harris GC.

    Just back from Top Ryde;

Best & Less only have their own gift cards so didn't use this offer.

Harris Scarfe - happy to split payments into $60 lots whilst purchasing $400 of visa gcs, a dress for my wife and a $20 iTunes to get over $480 (I have 8 cards). Best bit was no activation fee charged. I took the last $100 cards, only $50 cards left now. Sales assistant said someone recently came in and bought $1200 of Visa gc's!

I also maxed out the Woolworths Apple Pay offer. I bought gcs and paid in $20 increments. This is best done at self-serve. Assistant has to authorise the gc purchase but left me to my own devices when it came to actually paying.

    • Thanks for negging this comment whoever you are. No further updates will be provided.

      • +9

dont take negs from random strangers on the internet personally…

  • I went to Top Ryde last weekend and got some $50 (+$5.95 fees) Westfield GCs at Best & Less and $50 JB HiFi GCs at Harris Scarfe.

    • Nice! Didn’t know about Best & Less. Too bad I didn’t get that for my card.

  • +3

For those of you with an unused Best and Less offer, I can confirm that the one in Northland sells many different varieties of Gift Cards (5.95 fee for Visa and Eftpos), and they are willing to split payments.

Emails came through instantly. Free money.

    • Nice one! Now regretting not registering for that deal.

    • Thanks mate.
      Couple of questions:

      • How much worth of EFTPOS/Visa cards did you buy?

      • Where in the store are they located? On the normal shelf space with other products or behind the counter where you have to ask them for it?

Would be good to know before I head to my local and try out, I've got a big VicRoads rego bill to pay soon and this would be the ultimate OzB way to do it!

      • Near the counter as you line up to pay. I only have two cards, so I bought $50 worth (one card, two transactions). Good luck with your gazillion cards

        • Thanks, just got back from my local and they refused to do it, wanted to get 5 x $50 EFTPOS cards for a total of $279.75, split over 11 cards for a total of $25.43 each card. They then looked at my cards and put 4 aside which were in the name of my partner, and then they wanted to call the bank for authorisation etc, then said they can't do it because closing time.
I just smiled, said thank you and left!

@MathNerd: I think you might have been a little too ambitious there.

        • @BadMotivator: True, I knew I was stretching it… Will just have to get single $50 cards at a time then, no other option :p
When you did the splits, what did you say? "Can I pay for it using 2 cards, 25 on one and the rest on the other?"?

        • @BadMotivator: Hey mate, some success stories! I found that using just 2 cards is the trick, so I went to one store, picked up a $50 eftpos card, paid 25 on one amex and then 30.95 on the other. Drove to the next store and did the same thing. Will end up doing a lot of driving to exhaust all my cards but $25.95 for $50 of EFTPOS credit is insane value. Pretty much 46% off or so.

Has this been your experience too?

        • @MathNerd: pretty much. I have two Amex cards so my experience has been much the same as yours, minus the driving.

        • +1

@BadMotivator: Just got home, used all my cards. Feeling accomplished! Best part, 4 of the cards - they forgot to add the $5.95 activation fee :P

        • @MathNerd:

Do they only have $50 Visa cards? Do they have $100 ones at all? $5.95 activation fee is a bummer, but still a good deal nonetheless.

        • @JLQC5899: yeah it's only $50 ones from all the stores I've been to, but sometimes they actually forget to add on the activation fee so it doesn't even matter :)

        • +1

          @MathNerd:

Thanks for the info, mate. Much appreciated!

        • @JLQC5899: pleasure. Good luck with the hunt!

  • does anyone know if you can top up your Harris Scarfe store card account and will amex treat it as a cash advance or purchase?
has anyone been to HS Carindale and were there any visa prepaid gift cards left?

    • If it’s anything like the DJs storecard, it’ll say that you can’t pay off your account with a credit card. You can get around this by buying the $50 eftpos cards as they would go through as savings.

      • i topped up a Harris Scarfe store card account with amex ok but HS charged me something like 0.383 % fee. hope wesptac wont charge me a cash advance fee?. btw i got the last $100 visa card now only $50 visa prepaid cards left and they charged me a $5.95 for them. purchased the ultimate kids $50 card that doesn't have a fee and topped up HS account with $10 on the same transaction with my last WBC amex card.

  • Just went to Gelato Messina Windsor this afternoon (at 12 when they opened).
Purchased a $60 gift voucher, and paid using 6 cards $10 each. The girl there was helpful, but it would be silly to do this if you went at any time other than opening time, especially if there's a line out the door. Their Tyro terminal doesn't do contactless for AmEx, so 6 "insert & PIN"s is a lot of effort. Probably won't return to do more even though I'd love to, as the effort involved by the person behind the counter is too much, and I may not get someone as cheerful as the one I had today.

    • Gelato Messina Parramatta had contactless. Also a Tyro machine

      • That's lucky.
        Did that one look like:

        Or

        • https://goo.gl/images/pzbmZH (I've seen this at other places and I know it does AMEX contactless assuming the shop accepts AMEX, for example newslink Flinders st station)

Also did you get gift vouchers like I did or just bought icecream?

        • The first one. Dunno why you couldn't do contactless on that one; it definitely has it

        • @kerfuffle: Ah thanks for the confirmation. Maybe my cards have too much wear and tear for these older terminals to recognise them 😋

Reporting in from Harris Scarfe and Best & Less Top Ryde NSW:

    • HS has run out of Visa GCs.
    • HS checks ID
    • B&L has heaps of Visa and EFTPOS cards left.
    • I apologised to the girl at B&L because it was probably annoying to process so many cards. She said heaps of people have been doing it and happily did 3 cards.
    • No activation fee charged at B&L.

One day and a bit left to use the deal guys.

      Good Stuff.

At first I thought WatchNerd aka 28Degrees had changed usernames again haha.

        • Hahaha, common mistake that a lot of people make 😉
