I had the jaycar equivalent of these headphones about 4 years ago (brainwavz, jaycar, some other higher end brand I can't remember are all from the same factory). Really liked them for sound quality and isolation, but not for longevity - the plastic frame that connects the ear-cups onto the headband is quite fragile, and broke after about 12 months.

I since upgraded to both BeyerDynamic Custom One Pro, and Audio-Technica AD900X (one for home, one for work) - both are an upgrade in sound quality and sturdiness - the Custom One Pro are basically unbreakable.

Get this if $100 is the best you can afford - get something more robust if you have more money ($200 or so).

    • I really want to get these but I want a headphone that I can attach a VModa Boompro to so it's a bit dissappointing

      • Just personal experience, but I give two thumbs up to the Custom One Pro (apart from them being closed, and hence my ears get a bit hot in summer). Check if the VModa is compatible - they have a detachable 3-pole socket on the left, which seems to be compatible - and they have their own boom mic that plugs in there.

Or, have a look at the modmic 5.0 with whatever headphones you choose - I suspect its a slight step up from the VModa, and you attach a thingy to your headphones (which would work with the Brainwavz HM5, C1P, etc), then the boom mic attaches to that with magnets. Its what I'm looking at to go with both of my headsets.

        • Yeah Vmoda are definitely compatible. I don't really like the ModMic cos it's more expensive and you have to stick the magnetic thing on the side of your headphones. Also, from what I've heard the Vmoda sounded better than the ModMic, although that might be the 4.0 not 5.0

        • @WinstonWithAY: That is interesting. From a bit of a google, The VModa is indeed the better bang for buck https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/746123-v-moda-boompro-v… (but thats just a single user's experience).

I'd like to know more about how sturdy the VModa is mechanically. The C1P have a notch that makes the cable "click" in - whereas the VModa looks like it is just held in by the 3-pole socket.

        • @qwijibo: Yeah. As far as i'm aware it's just a standard 3.5mm jack with nothing else, means it fits a wider range of headphones
