Buying Laptop, Any Suggestions around $1000 Price Point and Build?

Found a deal on JB Hifi https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/dell/del…

Dell Inspiron 13 5000 13.3" 2-in-1 Laptop [i5] for $1118.40

I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions that are minimum;

  1. 8th generation core i5
  2. 256GB SSD
  3. FHD display 13.3 inch minimum (1920 x 1080)
  4. 8GB Ram

around the same price and wether I should launch the deal now or wait for cyber monday deals?

The deal is over, but Dell reduced the pricing of the laptop a few days ago to $1,099.

    • mitht check this out abit later :) even though it's i7 over i5, is it worth the price swapping the 1tb for a 256ssd

      • I forgot to mention there's still a P5OZZIE code that can get you 5 percent off.

1044.05 + Cashback from CR as well

For SSD, you will probably want to outfit your own one. It's worth putting in your own SSD and it doesn't have to be particularly expensive model.

I just have to warn you though, Dell Inspiron 5000 laptops are not 'business-focused' and their build quality is only what I consider 'average'. Their target market is for consumer / home use

If you want a well built laptop that will last you many years I recommend something like Dell XPS, Dell Latitude, Lenovo Thinkpad T / Carbon or Hp Probook / Envy / Spectre

However they cost quite a bit more, possibly starting $1200~1600.

  • FHD display 13.3 inch minimum (1920 x 1080)

Does it also need to be a 2-in-1 (touchscreen)? You quite possibly can find a better deal for the specs you have listed, however the 2-in-1 feature will generally raise the price by a fair bit

    • Doesn't have to particularly be a 2-1 it's for business purpose

  • Get the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro i5-8250U 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD

    • Any particular deal anywhere for me to check this out?

      • Here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/341392

I would wait for cyber monday as theres likely to be a bigger discount

        • seems alright, does the Cyber Monday start tomorrow or is it American based time?

        • +1

          @KmkZ:
It's tomorrow, however deals will be constantly popping out next week.

        • @BrodenIt: Thanks for that, i'll wait around for what comes up.

  • SSE is also selling HP Probooks starting for $1089

    http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/HP-8th-Gen-Laptops-Black-F…

    8th Gen Core i5
    8GB RAM, SSD
    930MX GPU
    FHD display

  • Why do people waste their money on consumer crap?

Buy a business laptop from the dell outlet. Last you a lot longer.

  • If you are looking for powerful business laptops check out the lenovo range https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/lenovo.com
However, battery life isn't great and it might be too beefy.

  • a recommend metabox if gaming. had my gaming one for 5 years still going strong. dual cooling fans. one for cpu, one for gpu. better cooling less failure. ALso very modular. though usually over 1k easily without a good sale. it's a true quality unit.

    • preferably don't want a heavy laptop, I used to have a clevo horize back in the day and that thing was a brick and a half.

  • Personally would try to find one with a GTX 1050ti as it may help you if you decide to do anything graphically intensive or want to use its gpu compute cores.

Otherwise the one you mentioned is quite good.. honestly not much cheaper or much better in this price range.
