    Wayyy too expensive imo.

    I'd rather get this - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/dell/del…

    • Cheers for the model - I'll have to keep it in mind when I have some extra cash.

I guess the main difference is you trade off the the dedicated GPU for touch screen support. That and you get a local Dell warranty.

      • +2

wait for a dell outlet sale. local support + heaps better than spending your $$ with GB

      • -3

The gpu is weak anyway, these machines aren't really made for gaming.

I prefer the Dell - reputable brand, local warranty and can be purchased from a B&M store.

I mean if the Mi is like $700 that's a different story, but virtually same price as the Dell? No way!

I believe this mi book pro aims dell xps,

Dell Inspiron is the entry level, you pay what you get.

I do stand on mi side as it has better screen, better battery life , better body and better RAM and ROM performance.

        • honestly the build on the xiaomis are better than the Inspirons, probably more comparable to XPS line. Also one MAJOR plus is that it has USB-C charging, and MX150 is also pretty damn good compared to intel integrated graphics.

    • XiaoMi has got 15.6' screen, not 13.3'.

      • -2

That's actually worse as the Dell Inspirion 15 5000 is even cheaper.

        • Dell one was released in 2014 with USB 2.0 only, while Xiaomi Pro is this year's product. not same

          Really?

          Have a look - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/dell/del…

          2017 latest model - 15.6" 8th gen i7

        • +4

          More expensive.
Make sure it's got IPS Screen like Xiaomi has, not cheap TN one. Also, don't forget Keyboard backlit, all-metal body M2 slot for expansion etc.

    • noob q: I've been looking at this model for a couple weeks.. Is it worth spending the extra $250-300 for the XPS 13 (basic model) with 7th gen i5 and no touch?

      • +1

I would say yes. The xps would be made up of better materials and would likely survive mishandling a lot better

If you baby your laptop, then probably not but you might as well go for the better one.

      • You also have to take into account that Inspiron has the new 8th gen CPU, while the XPS has 7th gen. From what I've read there is a huge improvement in performance, north of 40%. I'm sure the added performance would be more readily apparent than any difference in build quality

      • No. 7th Gen is only 2 core 4 thread vs 8th Gen 4 core 8 thread.

Although you do miss out on the NVIDIA graphics card, this Lenovo Ideapad 320s also seems nice for its specs; 13.3" FHD screen, i5-8250U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD for $959.20 and local stock

      • Seems good. Is the ram upgradeable?

      • Man thx for the info!!

I went searching on Lenovo Australia site and didn't find anything 13" with an 8th gen Intel, but they do make them.

Just spoke with the Lenovo Livechat and blast them - they really should list it on their site eventhough you can't buy one thru their store.

        Shocking imo!

    • I'd never buy a Dell, but I agree with ya, there are lots of better laptop you can get for a grand

  • +2

If only it was under that nasty $1000 threshold

    • +3

It's GearBest, they're gonna say it's a $4 piece of aluminium on the declaration lol

(Not literally, but they usually legit seem to put wholesale or rounded prices on shipping labels, ie $8 blitzwolf USB charger says ~$4)

  • How awful are these for gaming? Would Overwatch work on this?

    • The MX150 is the laptop model of the GT 1030, so you can look for benchmarks on Youtube. On Overwatch, you would get 40-55FPS on 1080p high, which is very decent, and if you lower the settings/resolution you could easily have a stable 60 FPS.

    • Overwatch runs on pretty much anything. Doesn't look half bad even when scaled right down.

I have one of these. Some tips:

    • Build quality is great, screen is excellent.
    • It comes with Chinese language Windows 10. It's very easy to fix and convert to legit English: http://en.miui.com/thread-671176-1-1.html
    • It has an empty M.2 SSD slot (2280). The back panel is a pain to remove — use a free Officeworks recharge card or something to help pry it off. There's a hidden screw under the middle foot.

That's about it. I had no driver issues after converting to English Windows 10. Everything worked straight away.

    • Is the reflection from the glass in front of the screen very noticeable? I wonder what it would be like using one of these in a well lit room…

  • So it looks just like a MBP, is it about the same weight and thickness?

    2 kg…yikes

    • Pretty standard for a 1080p 15.6" aluminium laptop with a huge battery.

      • Samsung notebook 9 similar specs 1.3kg

        • +1

15 inch samsung 9 is 1.75 kgs and 500$ extra
