25% off Car Batteries @ Costco (Membership Required)

700

25% of already great priced batteries. I replaced batteries in my cars during the last sale.
If you need a battery, the savings pay for membership pretty much. Otherwise get a mate who has membership to get you one!
If this is the same as last time, special orders are also included.
Hope it's useful to some people out there!

Added Battery Prices from last month thanks to outlander

    What are the prices?

I can't find any prices in your link to compare to…

    • -1

if you are a Costco member, just go there and compare.

      • -6

        go there and compare.

or you could just follow the deal posting rules and only post bargains

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guidelin…

        • Costco doenst post up prices on their website.

        • +6

          @dhdao1:

Costco doenst post up prices on their website.

So how are we supposed to compare the product to other stores to see whether it's a bargain or not and whether to upvote ???

        • @jv: Go to Costco and compare and then jump on OzBargain and decide whether you want to upvote or not.

        • @BargainMyMiddleName:

It should be the other way around

        • @jv: You are absolutely correct but Costco's not revealing pricing on the web makes these types of deals challenging. I would still consider a deal for someone who was looking to get a new battery.

        • @BargainMyMiddleName:

I would still consider a deal for someone who was looking to get a new battery.

You are just guessing though, not making a rational decision.

        • @jv:

It's rational based on experience, not just a guess, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. People can downvote it if its such a crap deal.
The problem, is Costco batteries are cheaper than other places everyday of the week, therefore the normal priced Costco batteries would have to be continuously posted or at least as a long term deal.
Maybe there should be a category for deal leads!

        • @maddoglee:

          t's rational based on experience

          No, that’s called guessing

        • @jv: Your initial comment was valid JV, and as someone has suggested the lack of prices for most Costco items makes comparison problematic. However since the image of prices was posted by Outlander we have a basis for comparison. For example the 41486 (aka N50ZZLMF) is $124.99 at Costco without the 25% discount and between $153 Ebay to ~$190 (from my limited google search).

Potentially significant deals like this should be posted so people are alerted and can check for themselves. Beats a lot of the easily verified rubbish [ambiguity intended] which gets posted on OzB.

        • @Possumbly:

However since the image of prices was posted by Outlander we have a basis for comparison.

Possibly, but that is a month old and not a complete list.

I don't think Costco posts should be allowed without specific items and prices listed in the details as otherwise it is impossible to do a price comparison.

        • @jv: Not impossible for Costco members. Others have also verified the value from previous deals, so the OzB community has done a solid job of sorting thru the issue, which is how I'd prefer these (bigger) deals to be handled. Better to be alerted and find the deals aren't quite so good than to miss out on a significant saving.

If nothing else this deal has alerted me to the fact that Costco sells car/4WD batteries cheaper than many other outlets, even without the (regular) discounts, so it's a big thumbs up from me.

        • @Possumbly:

          Not impossible for Costco members.

Maybe if you're browsing OzBargain whilst in the store it's not.

But if you're at home trying to decide if this is the cheapest price available, there is no way to compare.

        • @jv: Understand your argument but one of the great advantages of this site is that members will often come to the party with pics and other validation or advice to help out. Obviously they won't if no deal exists. There's already enough anecdotal "evidence" in this case to suggest a trip to Costco will be worthwhile for anyone needing a battery, which more than justifies the deal imo. Compared to a 1% increase in Cashrewards and other such junk "deals" this is positively brilliant.

        • @jv:

I agree it is annoying, but that's how Costco operate. They do this to get people in the store. They won't give prices over the phone either.
Plus you usually have to wait in line for ages if you want a price on a special item.
I'm glad I've helped possumbly and hopefully others. I was so close to getting ripped off for my battery until I search "car battery ozbargain" in google and found a link to Costco. well worth the saving as other members have advocated.
but rules are rules, Get the thread deleted.

        • @maddoglee:

They do this to get people in the store

They're not doing anywhere near as well as Aldi.

        • @jv:
They manage to get me driving 50 minutes out my way to buy petrol!
Not everything there is cheap though…. I probably won't be renewing my membership when it comes up anyways. I've got my batteries!
But I did grab the brochure for coffins. Hmm those seemed like they were pretty well priced.

I might hit up one of my mates to used their membership the next time I'm in need of one.. bargain!

        • @maddoglee:

But I did grab the brochure for coffins.

I've heard they are not very comfortable.

You should read the reviews from people who've used them before deciding to buy one.

        • @jv:

Hmm.. I might have to do some showrooming for coffins sometime…. especially if I am to be there for eternity.
It's a shame that Costco only show about 50cm of the front of the coffin…
They really should have them on display like they do with those massage chairs.

        • @maddoglee:

It's a shame that Costco only show about 50cm of the front of the coffin…

so they don't let you try them in store???

can you return them if they don't fit?

        • @jv:

Only if you they bugger things up. Like buying halfprice blinds. You are responsible for the measurements.

That's why everyone should head down to their local coffin store to try out a casket. Just make sure you have a fully charged battery!

    • +4

Last time they had this special I got a battery for ~$70 that q the cheapest I could find elsewhere was $130.

    • $30

    • Yeah I wasn't sure if this deal will get taken down for lack of price.
Take my word for it. It's a good deal.

If it gets taken down, too bad. I got my batteries last time.

      • If you can't check the prices to compare to other stores, it can't be verified as a bargain.

        • Can I base it on the price I paid previously?

        • +1

          @maddoglee:

Can I base it on the price I paid previously?

Will that be the same price tomorrow though? That is what we are supposed to vote on.

        • @jv:

There's a fair few people endorsing the bargain. Does that count for anything?

        • @maddoglee:

          Does that count for anything?

Nope, because without any specific bargains listed, there's no way of verifying it's the cheapest price.

        • +1

          @jv:

I agree most % off sales are a load of crap and probably a waste of time, but I appreciated the previous posts for this same deal. It seems other people do to. There should be acceptance for these deals based on the upvote/downvote.
          Why haven't' you downvoted it?

I did have another deal deleted for the Mont Factory Sale as well which was only % off, but its the same as the eBay 10% off deal isn't it?

        • @maddoglee:

          Why haven't' you downvoted it?

Because as I said numerous times, to upvote or downvote you need to verify whether this is the cheapest or whether it can be found cheaper elsewhere…

        • I was there Friday looked at the car battery’s priced from $75 to 125 outside these excise battery’s sell for close to $200 and Costco has best warrenty

        • @jv:

Are you going to compare the screenshot of the prices to other sites to verify whether you'll upvote or downvote now?
A deal is a deal. I don't see people downvoting a deal when someone posts something $0.01 cheaper else where. Both could be good deals.

        • -1

          @maddoglee:

That’s the OP’s responsibility. Read the posting rules.

        • @jv:

I guess I won't be an OP in the future then. PM me when/if the rules change.

Its a month old, but it should give an indication. From the Moorabbin store

        • Awesome! Thanks! It seems there are a few people appreciative of the post!

        • @maddoglee:
It's a great deal. I don't know much about the quality of costco batteries, but I thought they were really cheap just by themselves (which is why I took a snap). %25 off on top of that is amazing!

        • +1

          @outlander:

I think they're basically Exide Endurance that are rebadged specifically for Costco.
But I've see the red Extreme type there as well for special orders. I would've gone for that but they didn't have it in my size.

        • +1

@outlander: Exide makes good car batteries generally speaking. (Some) local Exides used to be made in Aus, don't know about these.

        • @maddoglee: The 30 month warranty does indicate they are on par with Endurance. Wonder why they would rebadge them though…

          Exide are fine.

        • @Tuba:

I suspect it's too avoid price matching etc. Bunnings do it by getting certain brands to make something of a specific volume/qty so it's impossible to find that identical product anywhere else to price match!

        • @Possumbly: if my sources are correct Exide is now made in the Philippines.

Personally I prefer Panasonic batteries but they are getting difficult to find due to the high cost but long life.

    • Perhaps these batteries have…no charge?

  • +4

    Thnx
Bought one for camry last time, had to order in cos they didnt stock for my camry
They are great batteries brand is “EXIDE”
and it was $40cheaper then battery world for same spec bat.
And i think its 30months warranty too.
Thats if u have a costco member already.

Im gonna try order 2 exide marine batteries see if they can. I think 25% off is alot for batteries.

    • Make sure you claim the warranty within 2 weeks of buying the battery.. the extended warranty is a bit dodgy in that way.

      • +1

Yeh the salesmen told me to do that and he say as long as we still have costco membership no receipt needed just bring in they exchange for u if brocken cos its on their system already

        • As long as you stay a paying Costco member.

    • Exide is the brand that K-Mart sells. I wouldn't say they are "great" as you put it. I've been through multiple Exide batteries, mine only ever last a couple years. But they are cheap so I'm not complaining.

  • +1

At least no jack up price sale there.

      • Members know.

        • No they don’t

        • +2

          @jv:
          Ok.

  • Is it only tomorrow or FROM tomorrow? When will it be expired?

  • +3

isn't free entry for non members on 28th at all VIC stores?

  • +2

Even shelf price is already significantly cheaper than Supercheap/Repco sales…. awesome deal.

  • Would rather stick with an Odyssey and Northstar batteries thanks.

    • Are they that much better than Exide?
I just changed the battery in my 2011 Mini Cooper in August this year (plus it still started first go.. but there was a low battery warning and the missus refused to drive it until i changed it).
That was an Exide (although probably a German made one). 6 years seems pretty good to me.

      • You get some extra cold-cranking amps (CCA) and extra Ah and can run them lower if you are using for fridges, pumps, camping stuff …. but it's not really critical for your average car so probably overkill for the extra $300. But it's nice to know I have the batteries available in my Landcruiser … apart from the more advanced technologies like lithium for $2000

        • Ahh yeah, but for the price you could buy two of these batteries. I guess it depends what you use it for. These had a higher CCA than my previous battery. I'm guessing that's from development in technology over the years. I'll be happy if I get 3 or 4 years or if these.

  • Century batteries have better quality

    • Optima yes, Century, not anymore. Not for a decade.

  • Does anyone know how to check which battery (I don't even know the specifications…) I need to get for a Toyota Corolla 2014?

    • +1

Go to mynrma.com.au search for Battery Replacement then put in your car details to get your battery type. No purchase required

      • Could not find the search facility. Is it a pop up ? Could you provide a link please. I am using firefox.

        • Not a pop-up. Try home page rhs "find a battery". Turn off any blockers you have in FF?

    • +1

Just call them and ask. They can tell you what battery will be suitable.

  • Anyone know if costco sells deep cycle batteries by any chance?

  • Bought a battery from Costco last week :(, but prices were still significantly cheaper than auto stores like Repco or Beaurepaires

    • Try to talk to customer service - they might refund you a difference.
I heard people were able to do this.

      • +1

costco refund the difference if its less than 30 days old

        • Thanks - I went in last week and managed to get the difference refunded.

  • Will Costco fit install and recycle your old battery (I assume these are in the tyre section?)

    • I don't think so, they just sell you a battery, but try to ask nicely, they might be able to help.

    • Nah they don't. But you tube is pretty good. It's not that difficult

      • Unless you drive a Holden Barina where in their infinite wisdom decided that putting a battery adjacent to the firewall with a protruding cover and tightly packed in the corner was the best idea.

        • That sounds horrible! My mini has a cover on it and looked like it's be a hassle but it was surprisingly easy… My Passat had it in the boot! Even easier! But difficult to figure out the battery size. Both were special orders unfortunately.

    • Nah.
And the guy I asked was quite… irritated… Probably too many people asked. :)

  • +1

Is it possible to store an newly unused car battery for a while - said 12 months? I don't need one now but thinking get one as a spare.

    • sure, why not, if doesn't work later, just claim on warranty…

    • +1

Why would you do that? Make no sense. Batteries aren't going to become scarce, nor are they likely to rise significantly in price. Costco has had 25% off in April and August this year already so seems a regular discount cycle.

      • He might need to buy it this time because apparently this post Didn't meet the ozbargain rules so he might miss out the next time the price drops!

    • +1

You'll need to connect it to a trickle charger if you don't want it getting damaged through self discharge

    • Battery shops periodically charge their batteries. If they get too flat they can not be recharged. Not worth the hassle in IMHO.

      • Agree, not worth the hassle.

        Thanks for all your comments.

  • I just called Costco Marsden Park to check and the person I spoke to did not know about the 25% off
Can anybody give me any details about the deal or confirm if its still going?

    • +1

Yeah they are not well organised. They sold me the wrong battery the other day so I have to go back.

The deal runs until December 10. It's in the flyer they hand out at the entrance:

      https://costcoau.blob.core.windows.net/cmsstorage/media/cost…

      • Thanks, thats a great help!
Was quoted $175 for my battery from Midas at a service and Costco works out to $79 with the 25% off - thats a very cheap battery

        • +1

Glad someone benefited from my post!

You much have to find the exact battery size you want on the exide site and they'll get the equivalent product code

  • Can I borrow someones membership card for Auburn? I'll shout you a Cosco Pizza Slice and a Coke.
