I've had a few Tiles, but they end up expensive as the battery only lasts a year and is not user serviceable. Also I've bought the 4 pack and only used 2 of them, but the others still go flat eventually.

Going to get something with a replaceable battery next time.

    • The Track-r batteries are replaceable its a CR-1620 which you can get from Bunnings You have to check the app every now and then to check the battery

      • I found this brand next to useless. Battery lasted weeks, only worked intermittently and had lousy range….borderline scam.

Hope the next gen is better

          agree

        • Track-r or XY?

          @3:
          Track-r

a little confusing sometimes with these threads…

I bought a 3 pack. Non worked properly and replaced batteries twice on 2 devices. Batteries didn't last and the third one was DOA

          Poor customer support too

Dunno what the XY is like, hopefully they will improve as time goes on. My track-r are now a couple of years old. Never picked up further than 30ft (15ft when in my wallet) but more often than not wouldn't work even when right next to each other.

I have a garmin fenix watch and the bluetooth is useful way over 150ft so I don't see why (apart from size) these cannot be as effective with a bit of refinement

    • There are rechargeable trackers too, like https://www.fasttech.com/product/3239800-smart-bluetooth-v4-…

But I haven't yet found one where I liked the app it connects to. I just want to be able to make my keys beep when I misplace them, I don't want any of the other functions. And I do want bluetooth, the "whistle for your keys" variety are rubbish and chew through batteries.

    • Of note is that they know when your batteries are expired and start emailing plenty of deals for you to resub. I found the price always being in USD (so conversion rate), along with the shipping fee were meh.

I ended up going for Nuttag which has an almost identical app (tiles one is great). Price wise they end up being the same or slightly less, but they have the swappable battery in these - that'll pay off as soon as I change that once then.

Is it just me or is this insanely overpriced?

Seems easier to just visit Harvey Norman (never thought I'd say that!) :

  • From Tile's Cyber Monday email promo (without prices).

    Family 16-Pack | Save Over $220
Includes 4 Mate, 4 Slim, 4 Sport and 4 Style

  • These things turn your phone in a 24/7 scanning device. It gets locations for other people's stuff by crowdsourcing. I got one as gift, but I value my phone's battery life more…

Yes and mine reports that there are 1,530 users nearby even though I live miles from anywhere. I turn both the separation alarms off because they were going off even when I had my phone and the Track-r in the same hand. But it is handy id you can't find whatever it is attached to . it will at least let you know if you are in the same room

      • Yes, I think the coverage is strongly exaggerated, but they have to do it to achieve the critical mass. Unless enough people take it up, the whole thing won't work. But I have a thing against my phone constantly using bluetooth and GPS so that it can help locate other people's stuff.
