  • So can I shove a standard SATA cable into it and use as an external or nah?

    • Yes if you have an enclosure for 3.5inch drives.

    • need 3.5 enclosure for AC adapter power

      else desktop psu molex power

      • Ah, so it can't run off just the SATA connection and needs a proper power source then? Cheers dudes!

        • +1

          sata only data, no power

and usb 5v not enough juice for 3.5" drive

        • @phunkydude: Thought as much, but it never hurts to ask. Cheers for the reply dude :)

Do you guys think it would be worth upgrading from 2tb to 3?

    • +6

This is a joke based on the common behaviour of people asking if they should upgrade from X to Y, right?

    • +1

Given shots of your 'My Little Pony' collection only takes up 35M, i would say 'no'.

    • +4

Nah, wait for 30TB to come out, it's just around the corner.

    • Seeing as we are already playing "commonly said on OzB"..
Do you think it would be worth not buying it and waiting for a lower price?

    • Yeah, you'll need the extra storage for pictures of your $80k automobile investment

  • $33/TB, nice.

  • What do I do?
Get a 1TB drive for much less value, but lower cost or the 3TB drive for much more value but higher cost?

Lol whatever, I will never have to worry about the 3TB being full.

I asked myself the same question awhile back when i was looking graphics cards, do i buy a 1070 for lower price or just bite the bullet and go for a 1080ti. i went the 1070.

Fast forward to just a few weeks ago and i bought a ROG Strix 1080ti from the 20% off ebay deal.

I will never have to worry about the 1080ti being maxed out (yet). lol

      • ||I will never have to worry about the 1080ti being maxed out (yet). lol

Come back to us when your running the 1080Ti on 3440x1440P @100hz+ with everything on Ultra…

        The card begins to sweat!

        • im running it with an Asus PG279Q 2560x1440p @ 144hz on ultra on a few of the newer games and am getting about 100~120fps with the card OC'd to 2050mhz. temps sit at 70~75deg stable. Can still run all games at the base OC of 1850mhz on ultra with temps around 60-65. drops a few frames but you cant really tell the difference anyway

get about 60fps in PUBG on high/ultra but the game is pretty poorly optimized

  • Thanks for the deal! Just have a couple of questions regarding it:
    * What exactly does it mean when it says "combine your hard drive with an SSD to maximize speed of data access"? Is it just referring to a system where you put your OS on your SSD and storing additional files on your HDD?
    * Is this website reliable? Anyone bought from it?

    Thanks in advance!

    • *Yes, it is basically saying this drive is best suited for storage, rather than for running your OS, games, etc on.
*Have bought from them before with no issues.

    • Correct. SSD for OS and HDD for data, apps, games etc.

      • Apologies, Semi-noob question, but I thought ur apps r supposed to go on the SSD too?

        • Your games certainly run better on an SSD, maybe hugz made a typo??

        • @AJW:

It's all good ppl! cheers for the reply.

        • cost/MB factor…

some ppl have hybrid system where OS goes on SSD (as usually 256gb)
app/sgames take up alot of space so they get a cheapy mechanical HDD.

nothing to stop you from installing apps/games on an SSD.

depends on your wallet as with everything in life.

    • Combining them they mean for copying from SSD to HDD which will be super fast (reading), for most SSDs at least 300mb. Copying from HDD to SSD (writing) will be whatever your drive is limited to (usually around 50-200mb/s depending if you're using usb3.0 or SATA 2,3)

For accessing data from HDD, having a SSD as your OS drive it will be slightly quicker but the drive will still take the same amount of time to spindle if it's in sleep mode. If the file or program is used often enough it will be in the SSD cache which will be automatic start-up.

Also have bought many drives from them in the past including 10TB Ironwolf drives with no bad sectors or errors. Helps if you purchase through eBay, I guess just for that extra PayPal protection.

Keep in mind WD Blue 3TB is 5400RPM

    • Yeah, that is what held me back.

    • Thanks for this comment, saved me from buying :)

  • Bought one of these when they had the same price at the start of the year. Drive runs very well. Stays cool even with heavy copying and downloading. A perfect entry level HDD. WD are always the most reliable too (percentage wise at least, to other brands)

  • Not bad pricing for the WD Red 4TB either ($159), still works out to be under $40 per TB mark…just!

    • +1

Not happy they removed the $159 WD Red 4tb HDD from the sale. Was going to buy today but its now showing $185. Even though its not sold out.

      • Same :(

Didn’t look like the deal had expired either & still had over a day left.

I’ve just emailed them to see if they will honour it…

        • +1

Shame. Also messaged them asking what happened. Hopefully they will reply tomorrow.

        • @g12345567:

I see the Seagate are still there. Did a quick look at reviews & looks like WD are still better. Would prefer WD over Seagate

  • Just bought 2, thanks OP

  • i have had a bad run with blues wont use them any more

  • WD have changed their product line and now include the old green drives as blue drives. If you look at the SKU (this one is WD30EZRZ) you can determine if you are getting the original blue or the rebadged green. The original versions SKU end in an X whereas the rebadged ones end in a Z. Still I'd rather use WD than seagate - just my personal preference.

  • Sold out :(
