Miele Cat and Dog Vacuum Cleaner - COTD $399

100

I had to buy a new vacuum the other day, it was between this one and another Miele. I've done a lot of research into vacuums lately and Miele are the best value.

The vacuums selling for $399, although the page says RRP $599 – our price only $439!. So not sure if they have the wrong amount down? You won't find a better deal than this.

Definitely consider this one if you need a new vacuum and have carpets at home.

  • Is there any value in buying a decent vac if you only have hardwood floors? Vacuuming seems so repressive with my cheapie from Target.

Handy for days it rains cats and dogs…

  • In all honesty - you cant compare any other vacum except for ones in the $1000 range industrial style compared to a dyson. we have had VAX, Shark, Cheap ones from Target/Kmart and nothing compares to the dyson - even the cheaper options that said had special cat and dog hair with powerful motorised heads. A friend bought a dyson over pretty much the day after we had vacumed and in just one room we almost got a full barrel of dirt and dust! never again will i buy a cheap vacum - now vacuming the house is easyer (with alot less strokes) and I know im getting all the dirt!

    • I've tested a Dyson in shop, and compared to any mid range vacuum cleaner (~$400) they dont have as much suction.
just give them a try yourself, and try to look over all the marketing hype, and you'll find out they dont work as well as they look.

PS: I reckon vacuum cleaner should be measured by psi or whatever sucking power unit.

From what I read was that Dyson do the best bagless, and Miele do the best baggers

        • I don't like to clean the bagless as it is dirty and dusty.

I wouldn't lump Miele in with the cheap vacuums you've tried in the past. Dyson and Miele vacuums are both good, and both brands have pretty fanatical adherents. :P

My own experience with both Miele and Dyson is that Miele has substantially better build quality, as good if not better suction and cleaning performance, and quieter operation. YMMV.

  • I would think for hardwood floors, the more expensive ones would decrease the chances of scratching?

I have used Miele Vac for 30 years.
I have not found any better replacement brand.

    • Agree we regret buying our dyson(dc08) to replace the miele after 20+ odd years of good usage. We actually have the Miele still now, and although one wheel is a bit loose, still cleans and picks up much better than our dyson. (its used to clean upstair rooms and car)

The dyson's unfortunately plastic click buttons have started to crack and fall apart, but i agree with the other posts that is really only good because its bagless. In retrospect should have got another miele, but we fell for the power of the dyson marketing >_<

How many cats and dogs can it fit inside the canister?

    • +1

One dog, and one cat, but if you vacuum up Schrödinger's cat it will be both alive and dead.

      • I guess that's one benefit of having a non-visible canister over a transparent, bagless canister in a Dyson (sphere?). :P

Wishing this was a quantum vacuum…

I had no idea what "Schrödinger’s cat" cat is. So i Googled it and I still don't understand it. Guess that's why I am not a quantum physicist.

        • Just watch a couple of episodes of "Sliders" or "Fringe" dude, that's the guts of it! ;)

        • "Big Bang Theory" episode, "The Tangerine factor" (May 19, 2008). You can watch the part on YouTube. Very Funny!

probably it is a good price but here is what I found :
    http://www.powerbuys.com.au/miele-s5261-cat-and-dog-turbo.ht…

    • Good find; might be worth paying $22 more for one with an undamaged box just for the peace of mind that the cleaner itself hasn't been damaged.

    • I've bought that one. Took just on a week for delivery, and used it for the first time today. Wow it's a good machine! I have a Westie, all white and hairy, who likes to sleep in the tan bark in the yard then come inside and shake it off all over the just-above-builders-grade carpet in my new house. Dog hair + bark + cheap carpet = big mess but this thing handled everything. And I actually didn't bother using the turbo head, didn't need to, if that helps influence anyones opinion. Anyway, carpet looks the best it ever has since moving in.

  • What's better for hardfloors, Miele or Dyson?

  • +2

If anyone cares… this is what I purchased. We have both carpet and hard floors so needed a combination one.
    http://www.powerbuys.com.au/miele-s-5311-cannister-vacuum-cl…

(That price also is the cheapest you will EVER find it)

    • http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/products/floorcare_selec… seems to suggest that S5311 is not meant for carpet.

If you tick "carpet", S5311 is removed from the list.

It seems the "S5781 total care" is the only one that does carpet and hard floor.

      • Yeah I saw that also before I bought it. But according to all the reviews online, it works fantastic on carpets.

      • Yeah its all rather confusing. We have the dark grey Miele which the site says is hard floors only, and before that the light blue all purpose miele. The darkgrey hardwood one comes with the same heads at the carpet style ones but also comes with a special hardwood floor attachment.

decent price, though these sales pop up every 6 months when miele do a sale.

If only they included the cute dog and cat in the ad. :)

Oh, I'd better be careful what I wish for. Pets are expensive. :(

  • I Bought a Dyson Model 29 For $ 399 at Harvey Norman normally $ 699.
They had them on a tent sale last weekend.. But if you go in they will still do that deal.
It is a Pretty impressive Vac… Just food for Thought..
Best of all it is bagless, which saves you money…

  • Can u post the receipt? Can I use that to buy D29 at the good guys?
