SCA Throttle and Carby Cleaner $3 for Club Plus Members @ Supercheap Auto

110

Not a bad vs paying 8 bucks for a can of the stuff. Haven't used any before so cannot compare it to a Nulon brand one but I expect they'll be similar

    or ClubPlus Members what?

    • Typo lol, updated. Cheers

  • I'm just wondering how to actually use this product if anyone can let me know. Also if it's fine to use in a diesel engine.

    Thanks.

    • There is a diesel version

    • +1

i didnt care if it's for diesel or for petrol I sprayed it into the throttle body
in my diesel paj. Throttle body sucks in air so it does not matter if your car is diesel or petrol.

    • I use buckets of the stuff at work and yes, it will work on Diesel engines… only thing is that diesels don’t use a lot in the way of carburettors (no diesels use carburettors). Some diesels use MAF sensors, but I would recommend Contact Cleaner to clean them. Same thing with throttle bodies, some diesels will have them, a lot of them will not, but you can use this product to clean any throttle body.

As in my statement below, do NOT run the engine right after cleaning anything with this stuff. Let the cleaner dry off before you start anything and NEVER use this stuff to clean air cleaners.

  • it says can be used without taking out the parts. So how do you apply it?

    • I have seen some YouTube videos that the throttle needs to be detached from the hose and air filter before sprayed on it. Let dry before fitting on again. Anyone knows if that's the case?

      • I used cans and cans of this at work. It is for getting rid of carbon, oil and fuel gunk. It should be 100% the case the remove the part and let them dry.

Do NOT use this on air cleaners. We have had a few cars come in with engine damage due to people cleaning air filters with this stuff. It is best to remove the part you want to clean if you can. If you can’t, then make sure everything is clean and dry before you start the car again.

The problem is if you try and run the engine after using this stuff and before it has dried, the engine will run on it and possibly cause a run on situation where you will not be able to shut the engine down. This stuff does not require spark and will ignite just from compression.

        • Thanks for confirming this. My car idles badly and thinking to clean the throttle myself but don't know how to detach it completely from the intake hose. The service station mechanic wants $150 for it.

        • It also damages the MAF sensor causing all sorts of idling issues and the car to run rough requiring a new MAF sensor.

I remember reading it on LS1 forum but it was a long time ago so not sure if I am 100% correct.

@adr8: correct. In one of my posts here I suggest using contact cleaner to clean anything MAF related.

        • @pegaxs: You must have written that while I was writing my post as I didn't see it till after I posted lol, but thanks for the tip regarding contact cleaner that's good to know.

    • Open your airbox and spray into the intake .

      • Wrong! But thanks for playing…

        • Ok , think I was thinking about something different.
This is just a degreaser/part cleaner not injector cleaner

        • @Beach Bum: injector cleaner usually goes into the tank but I have seen ones that go into the intake. Carb cleaner should not be sprayed into the intake and even if it is, it should be done while the engine is running and in small doses. Carb cleaner works better if you can wash the parts down with it. Spraying it down the intake would just send it into the engine for burning…

  • OMG! Why can’t they ever have this deal on CRC contact cleaner?

Looks like it’s a shopping day tomorrow with the other 25% off tools on as well…
