    • That's another step below
So what you're suggesting is the M30x (+delivery), when OP has shown the M40x for $109 delivered.

      • +2

The PC Case Gear link has free delivery.

    • That's the model down.

Very similar sound quality, probably wouldn't notice difference.
What you will notice, cable isn't detachable.

For $10 extra you get an extra 1.2 - 3m coil cable and still the same 3m straight cable which you can swap out.

Great post OP, excellent price for the 40’s.

  • +2

I love my M40Xs! They are wonderful sounding for a really reasonable price. Nicely constructed too!

    • +1

I also bought some m40x's a couple of years ago and I love them as well

  • -3

So is this fraud or genuine?

  • +2

A lot of people say M40X is better than M50X for sound quality.

I think that's bs, but each to their own. Been using M50x for a couple of years now. PRobably best to get aftermarket ear cushions, because the ones that come with the headphones are comfy buy wear out easily.

  • Is it too much to ask waiting for M50X to drop to $150 level?

    • +5

      No. That price is achievable.

      • whereabts can u get the M50 for $150?

I've been holding out for a while for them. Using the hyperX cloud 2 right now instead

        • +1

          Wait for the sale.

        • I bought at Jaben audio for $150 on sale (in Melb)

    • M50 maybe would have, doubt m50x will with the extra 1m and 3m straight cables + detachable mechanic. Maybe $160 would be plausible.

  • -5

would pay the extra and go for a sennheiser momentum 2, far more comfortable and the sound is arguably better.

    • Depends on your type of music.

      • -7

i disagree, they are clearly better sounding

        • +1

How are they better? M2 cost twice as much. They are better for most music genre, but not 2x times better IMO.

        • -3

@congngo: if you are patient you can get them for around 250, with audio equipment it's a case of diminishing returns

  • +6

ATH-M50X were $175 delivered at storedj last weekend. Ring them and they may still do for $175. Did for me.

  • +1

Tks Op, got 1 cause rainy day

  • -4

    Not an amazing deal.

JB Hifi did a price beat for me to $195 based on everyone else selling for $199.
    https://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Ath-m50x

With various gift card deals with 7.5% to 15% off, it gets it down to about this price.

    • That’s great, good for you. But this is as cheap as the M40X’s, which many of the experts rate higher than the 50’s, get.

      • -1

So have a deal for the M40X's then. I'm just alerting people to the fact the M50X isn't a bargain price.

        • +4

Have a deal for M40X? What’s in the title of this post?

  • +4

M50X's in black or white for $175 including shipping

  • +1

FYI because this isn't mentioned on the store page - these headphones use a 2.5mm plug with a proprietary locking mechanism, so if you don't want to be locked into buying ATH-specific cables, you'll need remove to disassemble one of the earcups and remove the locking mechanism. From memory this requires two of the smaller Philips screwdrivers. After that you can just use a slim 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter and regular cables.

    • +2

They provide 3 cables. Anyone who has to replace a cable should just buy a 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable. It's not expensive at all.

    • +2

And 3rd party cables with mic if desired are available on Ebay as well

    • I did this because I wanted to use a 10cm cable for when I connect it to the Vive. Very easy to do

  • +1

get the shp9500s off amazon for $100 shipped, or the ath ad900x for $200 shipped.

superlux are great as well and the store has the old HD681 which are very good but possibly cheaper on amazon

    • +1

I have the Philips SHP9500, basically identical to SHP9500s except some minor differences. Definitely recommend it. Great sound, extremely comfortable. Just bear in mind that the SHP9500(s) is open back.

      • +1

same paired with a v moda boom for gaming.

        • +1

And to think, those headphones were only $60 in 2015. I'm still bitter about not buying them

  • Used this to get a price match at jbhifi for 40x. $60 less than their usual price!
Nice crystal clear sound. If you want bass or volume, get something else.

    • Yeah, the regular price at JB is $169. They occasionally have a 30% discount on headphones which brings down the price a fair bit, but nowhere near $109.

    • Which jb dude?

    • These manage volume well if your computer supports higher powered headphones (ie Asus has an 'extreme' option you can enable if your headphones are <50ohm).

Bass I've never had an issue with. You'll hear it how it is. Play around with EQ settings if you want more bass.

  • +1

Looks like they're all gone. I went to order and got this:
"Sorry, we do not have enough "Audio-Technica Audio Technica AT ATH-M40x Over-Ear Headphones Professional & Entertainment" in stock to fulfill your order right now. Please try again in 60 minutes or edit your cart and try again. We apologize for any inconvenience caused."

  • Have had the M50X's for a few years and they still sound better than most of the other headphones I've owned in this price range. If you want to customize your headphones, you can head over to dbrand or slickwraps. Have mine in the carbon fibre red & black design.

  • Good price but I think I'll hold out for a deal on the Beyerdynamic 770s.
