As per past deals, if you're already a customer and their website doesn't let you apply the code, contact their support through online chat and ask them about it, they usually apply it to existing customers when asked.

virgin can go to hell for cancelling all the gradfathered accounts, got paid in full all my credit after they made me jump through hoops

  • Is that 15gb monthly or over the 12 months? I'm assuming the former based on the cost.

    • +1

Critical information says 10GB of data per month. So +2GB bonus and +3GB with the UNWRAP3GB should be monthly as well.

  • Is that 15gb or 5gb? You said "Includes 2GB bonus + additional 3GB"

    • +1

      15gb pm

10gb pm after the 12th months

      • Sweet thanks, could be worded a bit better….

        Includes 10GB + 2GB bonus + additional 3GB when you enter code UNWRAP3GB at checkout by 28/12/17.
Totalling 15GB per month for the first year and then 10GB from then on.

        • Done, im sure you can ask for an extension.

Plans in a year will most likely come with way more data…

      • Where does it say anything about it changing after the first 12 months?
I see the opposite which is more the norm.

"Sign up between by 28th December 2017 to a $40 12-month SIM Plan and enter coupon code "UNWRAP3GB" and you will receive an additional 3GB bonus on top of your standard monthly data allowance (to use in Oz) until you cancel or change plans."

If it does revert after first 12months then it's a pretty average deal. Last deals have been permanent 15GB for ~$32.

  • the 20% off was a better deal or this 2 months off with bonus data

  • For future reference, what's the cheapest way to port out of a carrier so you can port back in for new customer offers.

    • I was told by Telstra a couple of years ago that the port out needed to be for at least 6 months. Not sure if that's actually detected by the system, but Live Chat op told me that's the 'rule'.

    • If you are referring to Virgin specifically, live chat did the above for me as existing customer.

    $33 for Optus reseller
$30 for Optus directly (and with bonus 2GB maybe)

    ?????

    • and also no Apple watch cellular on reseller plan……

    • Or go with Telstra through JB for $32.33 with 20gb….

      • Isn't that all done?

From what I read all hit and miss to get the credit and the bonus 5gb.

        • I think it’s stll going at Chaddy till end of year. I signed up there. No drama. Correct bill and allowance.

        • The bonus is 2GB, 15GB is available on every other promotion basically.

      • What is this plan you speak of… ?

They’re not a reseller of the Optus network. Virgin is owned by Optus, therefore are at the mercy of whichever deals Optus approves.

Optus is positioned against Telstra, which is why they bought Virgin and resell the same product (network); if they were to offer Virgin prices which are almost always cheaper, then they’re missing out on a fair amount of money simply because they can charge more whilst still beating Telstra. Optus doesn’t have to be cheap, they just have to be cheaper than Telstra.

Virgin is positioned in the market against Vodafone, but whenever Optus notice a large churn of Optus customers to Virgin, they either temporarily undercut Virgin with a cheaper plan, or stop Virgin from selling a particular deal altogether.

      • So in a nutshell, Optus bought Virgin because:

Optus v Telstra - Telstra wins
Virgin v Vodafone - Virgin wins

Btw as someone who has experienced both Telstra, Optus and Vodafone data I can quite confidently say that Optus has to be a lot cheaper than Telstra (not just a few dollars) to consider going on to them. However, Virgin seems to be better than Vodafone at least in terms of coverage - so gives Virgin as a good potential option. Optus must be priced under Telstra, just above or equal to Virgin which in turn gives Optus as a good potential option.
        It's a complex market indeed.

  • Uses Optus

    Yet can't compete with Optus
    *** sigh ***

    • Virgin is owned by Optus.

      • Read up about it and what do you know, Virgin and Optus are both under the same company.
Brings even more confusion as to why deals are better at Optus Optus rather than Virgin Optus..

Kind of like having a shop with two windows and charging different prices through those windows.

        • There's a comment above explaining it from Strahany

        • @apptrack: which I have replied to…

  • Lol they are no where near competitive. Ported my wife to optus and me to telstra. Optus was $30 for 17gb. Yeah.. No thanks virgin. They do nothing for loyal customers.

  • Don't forget the 45 cashback!

    • what's that through?

      • Just cashback themselves. Download the cashback chrome plugin and it will notify every time a site has a cashback offer. When I open the link in the post above, a pop up shows up saying you'll get 45 back on a new Virgin line purchase.

        • It's through Cashrewards

I have to give some feedback on Virgin as someone coming from Telstra. It's awful. Data never works in any place with people, it's meant to have the same identical coverage as Optus as it's not a reseller. However it doesn't there's places optus works great and virgin data is unusable. Around central station in Sydney I can't use data at all. Never had an issue with Telstra.

I'm currently trying to get out of my contract to switch back to Telstra

    • Its true… Wynyard station @ 5:30-6:30 is guaranteed no data =_=

    • Interesting. Virgin claim that "the network has no ability to even distinguish the difference between a Virgin Mobile customer and an Optus customer" so the coverage is identical. Not sure how they could get away with saying that if it wasn't true.

Can confirm online chat will do this for existing customers.

I was on $40pm 10gb unlimited. Have signed up for the above deal. Am getting 2 months free, have agreed to 12 month contract.

$80 for 10 mins work. Not bad ozbargain.

      Happy Wednesday :)

  • If I'm an existing customer, do I have to talk with online chat to get the deal? I can't just change it myself?

I went with this over Optus.

If I could get 17GB for $30 I'd probably have gone with Optus, but I was too late for that. Ever since Optus added more value to their plans this week (Unmetered Netflix streaming etc) they wont go below $40 per month for 15GB (I tried).

With the Cashrewards $45 cash back, this works out less than $30 per month and unlike Optus allows data rollover. The international inclusion is better for me as it includes all countries, unlike Optus offering "selected" countries. It has the same unmetered music streaming as Optus, and I've heard customer service is an improvement with Virgin.

Just signed up with Optus via their webchat this morning. 12-month contract sim only plan for just $30/m. Unlimited national calls + 17gb data + 300 international call minutes. However, no data rollover. It's originally $40 Sim plan for 12 months, I've showed that 25% discount link to their representative and asked for 2gb extra data.Luckily he agreed.

      • Wow dude that's a crazy deal. Nice work.
