OFFICEWORKS Netcomm Mobile 3G Data Router - $38 (StaticIce Cheapest $159)

240

Found this wireless 3G router at the Punchbowl Officeworks today. It wasn't marked as clearance, is was just on the shelf next to all other networking products.

No sure about stock levels elsewhere, however the $38 price is AusWide. There was only the one unit at Punchbowl.

The product allows USB 3G modems to be shared across multiple computers.

  • Must be an instore only deal, no mention at all on their website. :(

    • No no mention on the website, but nor was there a mention of $8 router deal from yesterday on the website.

The checkout person said this was a national price, so it's just a matter of luck. They seem to be clearing a lot of their netcomm stuff.

  • Dude whats the model number?

    Model Number - N3G002W

You need either a PCMCIA 3G card or a USB 3G modem to use it. Very good deal though.

However, I reckon it is a special at the Punchbowl store.

  • Hey guys just a random question.
Is it possible to use a regular phone sim's data
    in a 3g modem/3g router?

eg. I have a phone plan where i have a few gigs of
data to use and i put the sim in something like the
    vodafone pocket wifi router.

I think i read something about having separate apn's
or something? Is it possible to change the apn on the
sim so that 3g router will use my mobile data?

Just wondering because i have a plan with a bunch of
data that i don't use and i'd love to use for my wireless devices.

Seems to me it would only be a bargian if we can use sim card on it.

    • It depends on your contract as well - some specifically bar you from sharing the pre-paid quota.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S on optus and the wireless sharing (phone operates as a WIFI access point) is permitted. Some plans had restrictions however.

    • yes, you can. No problem. You set the APN on the router, using a web interface.

Do note that this does NOT come with a USB modem. You will still need one of those USB modem/dongles from your provider.

They are usually made by a Chinese manufacturer called Huawei which are compatible.

This device simply connects to the 3G network via the USB modem/dongle and then allows it to be shared by devices across wireless/wire.

  • none at officeworks melbourne. Must be a clearance item as i noticed that Netcomm had changed their packaging.

  • Guys dont bother there is none left, i got them to check their system

  • Thanks for posting, I picked up one from Ringwood this morning. :)

    • Did they have more than one?

      • They had 3 on the system when I first spoke to them and they put one aside for me which I picked up. Not sure if the other two had been sold by then or otherwise.

  • If theres a N, Q or D in the first two letters (if there is) behind the description then its a clearance item. D and Q are well into their clearance cycle so don't get your hopes up on these deals.

cant mac's just share 3g data via their machines? lol

    • Mac's can share a data conenction via wifi, as can Windows (I assume).

Not sure what you're getting at though. It's much simpler to have a standalone router.

  • As of about 5:30pm (Wed) there were none in NSW, and 7 scattered around Victoria.

  • Does someone know, if there is any stock left in the punchbowl officework?

  • Just make sure you check the supported modems list before buying , i used to have the n3g005w and found the modem support very limited
