I can still remember when I paid ~$20 for my first one of these.
Clearly the patent has expired or the owner didn't pay the asian manufacturer enough money to stop them selling copies.

      Agreed.
I’m on my 4th. I have literally ordered replacements standing in the immigration queue when I have lost one to security, because they are the most useful tool I own - always in my pocket, with a sharp knife, screw driver etc.
I give them to anybody at the drop of a hat, and have three in the drawer right now!

      • Is it the same model? It looks very fiddly.

        • Same model. I wouldn't use it to build a house, but to open a parcel, remove the screw on a PC case or many other minor tasks it is useful.
Admittedly, you could be out of pocket a dollar if you found it too fiddly.

        • @mskeggs: I don't carry my keys on me when I'm at home, so the convenience factor wouldn't be there.

The tools look too small, and when you have a large clump of keys attached to it, using the screwdriver I imagine to be difficult.

Bought one anyway just to try it out.

        • @lostn:
It folds open to use that it unhooks from the key ring, so the key awkwardness isn't a problem, but if it isn't in your pocket it will lose its appeal.

I keep a small ring of keys in my pocket all the time, or I misplace them!

  • If you add any other item to you cart, it ends up subtracting the entire amount of this item, so you get it free.

    • It is already free, the 69c is postage.

      • +1

well it removed the postage then…

        • It didn't for me.

    • what item did you add, jv ?

      • another free one.

        • tried that, came up charging $2.99 for the 2nd one

        • +3

          @effgee:

Yep, but it makes the shipping for this one free

        • @jv: Well played. You got us all.

cash rewards for the true ozbargainer

    saved 5.225 cents

    • Don't spend it all at once. Especially the 0.225

  • Thanks, ordered 2.

  • I prefer the card shaped ones but got this regardless. Thanks op!

  • Would this pass muster at airport security?

    • It technically isn't drug paraphernalia, so you should be fine. Worst they could find is some residue.

    • I have had two confiscated, as it is a 5cm blade, but that is from dozens of flights.

    • I've taken 100's of flights all over the world with one attached to my key ring, with other keys. Never been a problem for me. YMMV. I can also vouch for its utility - really does come in handy from time to time.

How does saving 3 cents constitute a bargain?

Numerous eBay sellers have this for AUD$1 ALL the time.

    Blatant spam in any case

Hinge doesn't look as nice in the eBay listing? 3c might be worth it if this is legit Swiss-Tech stock I guess? I'm guessing eBay is knock-off stock.

      • Swiss but made in china.

  • +1

It's even cheaper than the Taobao, the chinese eBay.

    RMB 9.90 ≈ AUD 2.00

I have no idea how they can make it so cheap! That's also delivered.

It's free to post things globally through China's version of Auspost I believe. Probably done to increase exports and trade.

  • These are great little devices, bought them for $4 each about 3 years ago, got one for all the family.

  • This is a great gadget.
I’ve taken it on planes by accident a few times. Better than forgetting to take your Swiss Army Knife off your keychain and having it confiscated.

Well bugger me. I was just looking at one of these on my desk this morning wondering where the hell it came from. The life of an ozbargainer… discounted shit litters every corner of the home

  • Can I attach this easily to my keys?

    • +1

Keyring, yes. Keys not so sure.

  • Zapals never deliver. Gearbest is the best

  • +1

    Delivered today…knock-off?

No product packaging, opens very easily - unlike my old one, bottle opener hook on the old one is more prominent and one side of the hinge rivet hasn't been polished right down.

Bought it as a spare in case the old one goes missing so untested on any task.

    • The metal looks visually different on mine compared to my genuine old original. I'm not sure if it's just a different surface polish, or the metal may actually be different.

      • Yeah, that was one of my "maybe fake"'s as well…left that off as unsure…could only really tell when used I thought.

Was yours sent no product packaging as well?

        • No packaging at all.
