Any Advice on a Temporary (~1 Month) Internet Solution, as NBN Is Scheduled to Be Installed Late January?

I signed up a NBN plan today, but the earliest available time for the NBNCo is late next month. I probably need 200+ GB if I use carefully. Any advice on surviving the coming Christmas holiday? Thanks.

    100gb for $69.95
buy it twice i guess lol

  • Vivid wireless possibly.

    • $199 upfront cost…

      • Used Vividwireless 4G modems can be as cheap as $70 on gumtree, then can resell it later on. Nbn was available later Oct in my area. Signed up on day one but took 3 weeks to get connected.

  • Month to Month ADSL if you can get ADSL

    • The sails person told me ADSL is not an option anymore, once applied NBN

  • sign in to your neighbours wifi?

    • New building no neighbors as I can see…

      • damn……

      • Buy outdoor point to point tp link wireless and get the free internet from work :)

  • don’t worry about signing up for a month by month contract, you’ll probably be right with a 12 month lol

  • Due to NBN stuff ups we had no internet for 3 weeks.
Ended up rigging up a laptop to log in to our neighbours Telstra Air and share it through LAN to our router. That handled our streaming and bulk download (albeit slow). Had to log in every 24 hours on the laptop to refresh the connection.
For speed we had a Vodafone SIM.

  • I know it doesn’t matter now as you have signed up
And the plans maybe not attractive

    Vodafone nbn has instant connect.
The modem has a built in SIM card so while you are waiting for nbnco to connect you you get access to the Vodafone 4G network at 12mbs/1mbs

They are also running a promotion where you get your first 3 months free.

The prices are not great at the moment due to it being a pilot program but it’s unlimited and their ratios are quite good (30:1)

  • Not knowing what other services you already have, you can look at the options for them. In my case I'd up my contracted mobile service from it's current plan to the max for a month. This would give me an additional 115Gb for $55. We also have a second mobile we can do the same with, so that give us 230Gb for $110, per month. If the NBN is delayed, simply run the upgrade for another month, then drop it back.
Just keep an eye on your data usage.

  • Prepaid Mobile broadband - plenty of options

  • Just find the best current deal on a new prepaid sim. Changes week to week.

When I was in that situation there was a Vodafone prepaid deal. I registered like five new numbers.

You need to have a spare 4G phone or a 4G hotspot.

Better than paying for 100GB upfront when you might end up using much less.

  • Maybe start with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/347707

By the time you use this up there might be a new offer with another provider.

  • OR Boost, $20 for 16GB, Telstra network: https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/boost-prepaid-$40-multi-fit-starter-kit

If you need a 4G modem, there's one on sale: https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/telstra--prep…

Always useful to have one! You can unlock for ~$10 with DC UNlocker
