  • Any idea of expiry date of the SIM?

    • +2

12 months, but will still activate after expiry

      • So effectively no expiry?

        • +2

Within reason, I have activated after expiry.

        • @nocure:
I've got one expiring on the 21st, but my plan ends on the 28th. Did you just activate it normally online?

        • @tunzafun001:
Yep, no probs, got another 15, expired in August

        • +2

@nocure: when you say within reason I assume this means the system has the expiry built in, but customer service can override it?

      • so this $30 credit and 8GB of data will remain active for 12 months if the sim is not used to make calls, only to receive? all the sim deals i saw recently have a credit that expires withing 28 days etc…

also, will you get a phone number with this? never tried these things before….

        • so this $30 credit and 8GB of data will remain active for 12 months if the sim is not Activated

once activated, you will get 30 days to use it

        • +1

@nocure: oh ok, thx, not for me then, i don't understand why they make the credit expire so soon, if i fill it up, it's up to me to decide how fast i use it up :)

        • +1

          @Ringu:
          because Capitalism

    • However if you activate this $30 starter kit after 2nd January 2018, you will only receive its standard 4GB data, not the current holiday bonus 8GB data.

      • +1

If you activate before 2nd of Jan, will the next recharges you make continue to have bonus data? My understanding is that it goes back to 4GB.

I'm in the same situation as OP but I prefer the Coles prepaid. Yes Coles uses optus and not telstra but $20 gets u 3GB and 35 day expiry. That's a big kicker

        • +1

Yes, Woolworth rep at Whirlpool forum confirms this is a one-off holiday bonus. Not a permanent bonus. Unless things change again in the future.

  • So no more google play credits from Telstra. Any other carriers have google play credit with their mobile phone plans at the moment?

    • Pretty sure they were the only ones

    • No. No more double dipping mate.

    • -6

Existing subscriptions will continue eg Youtube Red, PIA, Office

      • +2

This discussion is out of topic at this site. Should head towards Whirlpool forum to discuss.
Anyway Telstra carrier billing no longer pay for any existing subscriptions e.g. Netflix, YouTube Red/Google Play Music, etc. Even you have already subscribed to them before 3rd December. You can buy Google gift cards to add credit to your Google account to pay for these subscriptions though.

        • -2

I beg to differ about grandfathering but agree more appropriate to continue discussion on forum

      • +4

My YouTube red subscription is due tomorrow, but I am not confident that it will go through on Telstra credit. Many people on Whirlpool are reporting that subscriptions are failing.

        • Keep us updated. Woo Woo sent me an email saying that his subscription test succeeded after the 3rd.

        • +2

          @MadMaxBargainRoad:

My Youtube Red subscription failed this morning, so it is all over for me. I have ordered a Woolworths mobile SIM and will be saying goodbye to the big T.

        • @ridecwb:Have you tried to change payment methods and see if there are other Telstra billing listed? That's what Leon from Woo Woo suggested.

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad:
Just tried that and both Telstra options in my payment methods are now greyed out. It looks like it is over.

        • Thanks ridecwb, you are just confirming what we all at Whirlpool already know. I myself will also move away from Telstra once I have used up my remaining recharge credit.

        • @ridecwb:cheers mate. Looks like it's done and dusted. Ordered 2x Vaya sim from Groupon.

  • "from 13th December" or till 13 December

    • +4

It will be in next weeks catalogue and In store @ $10 from next Wednesday. He has however brought the promo forward online to start now, because I asked him nicely about any future promos and mentioned that everyone is leaving Telstra Pre-paid at the moment.

  • +2

Still have 10+ packs of sim cards unopened (exp 31/12/2017) ;-(

  • Just wondering how you guys use the starter pack if buying many? I assume we need to port out every 2nd month and port back in to activate another one? Thanks!

  • +1

You get 10% off recharges with Woolies card as well?? cool!

  • +1

Was paying $2 for those aysim ones, really hard to justify $8 more for an extra 3gb, giving the short bonus activation window. The 8 gig would be a good miss.

    • +1

This runs on the Telstra network. For some people its worth the extra.

      • +2

        ‘Parts of’ the Telstra network.

        • Telstra Wholesale

  • +3

I am moving from Telstra to a Telstra MVNO.

Haha kind of sums up the mobile market at the moment. People are looking at offers on Telstra besides Telstra to get a better deal on Telstra.

  • Can you port from Telstra to Woolies using this SIM ? I got caught with Boost where you are not allowed and must use a special 'SIM' you order from them.

    • I don't think there's any problems( at least to me)
been porting from optus/aldi,virgin, works fine

    • I went from Telstra prepaid to woolies. No problem. All online and quick.

    • Same as wfdTamar. The only issue the phone was locked to Telstra and it had to be unlocked to work with Woolworths.

  • 150 minutes standard international calls to 10 countries plus $100 international credit for other countries+

    Woah this is awesome

  • Okay I'm going to sound like pleb but in the past people have used starters kits to recharge. Any chance here? The free amaysim deal is ending soon.

  • Can I downgrade to the $20 pre-paid plan after using this for a month?

    • Yes.

  • Hmm, this or Boost.

Also leaving the big T. F+ is useless now.

  • a noobie here for this stuff…can i purchase x 12 to get me sorted for the year?

    • +1

If you port out and back in at the end of each month.

  • I have been thinking about our dilemma with leaving Telstra and losing the OneDrive Storage. This is my Idea:

    Aldi PAYG Sim (365 Days) - $5
    Aldi PAYG Data /20GB (365 Days) - $95

    Have a group of 5?

    Office 365 Home Subscription (365 Days) - $85 / 5 = $17pp
Get 1TB of OneDrive Storage to make up for losing 200GB with Telstra
    +
60 minutes of Skype calls a month to make up for the Aldi PAYG plan.

    Summary:
$117 Upfront costs (If you have 5 friends) which lasts 365 Days.
20GB Aldi Data (1.7GB a month) on Telstra Wholesale
    1TB OneDrive Storage
    Office Included etc..
    60 Minute Skype Calls

Now I just need to find some friends.

    • +1

Now I just need to find some friends.

      Damn. There's always a catch.

  • Are Boost and Better Life the only full coverage Telstra MVNO?

    https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/mobile_carriers

If that's the case then not many options for someone like me that was on F+ $30… Boost's $30 (4 GB, free music streaming) looks alright except for the 28 day expiry.

Edit: According to Better Life they only use part of the network :-(

  • Wow this looks amazing.

Pretty much what I was looking for, for the same reasons as you.

  • My expired prepaid Telstra is running on fumes now (apology 10GB bonus data and transferred credit) as I wait for these to be available in-store.

  • +1

Picked one up at Brisbane City all good!

  • Porting in progress!

  • Did anyone need to set up these APN settings?
There's only a default Telstra one on mine. Seems to work with either?

  • +1

No stock at Camberwell, Middle Camberwell or Blackburn South. Lots of stock left at Vermont.

  • No stock at Aus Fair on the Gold Coast, the lady at the counter said she's been trying to order them for weeks but they never come. She was complaining about them being on special when they never have any.

  • None at Underwood. Ordered 2 online.

  • 👍 just got one! Thanks

  • If I port my existing number to Woolies Mobile and use it for a month, then port again to another network for the following month (e.g. to Kogan), then use this Woolies Mobile Starter Kit again for the month after, and so on, would that work? I want to keep my phone number the same.

Does this Woolies Mobile Starter Pack have expiry date? If so, when?

If the above works, I will buy 6 to cover for a year lol..

    • +1

Yes, very generous expiry dates and easy activation.

      • Where can u find the expiry date?
I assume it's in the packaging if buying in store..?
If buying online, does it tell u the expiry date?

        • Date is on the back, don't panic they usually give 12 months and will still activate after the expiry.

  • Anyone had any issues with activation taking some time? Currently been 2-3 hours so far and nothing..

  • I managed to find some but they are all past the expiry date. Will they still work?

    • Yes but try and return first, they shouldn't be selling them.

  • How are you guys managing to activate expired sims? The store I went to also only has expired ones

    • Would also like to know.

Bought 2 today. One expired 30/11/17 and the other is due to expire sometime this month. I won't need these until next year.

  • Been to 6 Woolies (all Perth SOR), cannot find any and they all said they had not had any for a while and nothing on order on their system. Anyone in Perth with any luck?

  • +2

Called Woolies mobile. They tell me all sims with expiry Nov or Dec 2017 have been extended to 15/04/2019.

    • I knew I should have bought more.

      • There were only 2 left at one Woolies I visited and none at another. Also the sims that were left had shabby packaging.

It must have been them trying to clear out old stock.

  • +1

For anyone who had purchased this deal today was supposed to be the last day you could activate to get extra data.

A check on their website shows that the extra data offer has been extended until 31 January 2018.

    • +2

Confirmed, activated an expired SIM from last year and got 8GB.

      • What was the expiry date written on the package?
