  • What's a step up from this hub quality wise?
Looking for one that does various cards and has multiple usb3 ports.

    • It only has 4 USB 3 ports.

The hub has a port for DC Input, but doesn't provide the Adapter.(i.imgur.com)italic

It's 5V 4A but the plug packs I currently have don't fit it.

What size (diameter) is that (the power socket) so a power supply can be ordered for it?

    • +2

From my measurement at least 3mm. Jaycar list 2.5 & 3.1mm DC power line connector. So should be 3.1mm. Best to check before ordering!

You could make an adapter for existing PSU with socket to suit PSU wired to plug for this, or just change the plug.

Am using this as powered hub using USB cable with suitable plug from a 50c Hub fan from Woolies way back - although cable won't handle 4A. Currently powered from 2A USB plug pack.

      • Thank you, I'll see how I go.

An alternative is to use an easy connect plug like these if unable to solder connector onto existing PSU cable - unfortunately size is not given & mine are in the post.

Power supplies won't be cheap. Old PC power supplies with 5V are regularly thrown out. Add cable (to handle 4A) with suitable plug.

Or $7.49 Laser powered hub deal + expensive shipping.

  • 20 bucks but no power adapter?interesting

    • Who thought to design a USB 3 hub with a power input socket but not include a power adapter for it with the packaging.

      • Designers (ages ago) would have assumed a plug pack rather than 4A USB power source would be used. I have plenty of the correct plug USB cables, but doubt they will handle 4A - being used around 2A.

    • These are generic devices, repackaged for Woolworths HUB brand. So reduced price by leaving out PSU & sold as non-powered hub.

Assume Woolies know their target market. (Maybe not. Have been on shelves for about 2 years.)

Not including likely bulky & heavy power supply saves shipping cost, & certainly shelf space for Woolies. So designed to meet logistics & shelf real-estate rather than users like us.

These are very old stock, disappeared off Woolies shelves in popular $5 deal 3 months ago, so stock may be hard to find. Was very hard to find near me then.

Woolies Hub brand has been clearing since before the 2015 Hub brand Megathread

Alternative $7.49 Laser powered hub deal, but high shipping cost - possibly due to heavy power supply. Also older stock.
