INC Protein Bars $0.49 @ Chemist Warehouse & MyChemist (In-Store)

200

Short dated stock, 1-2 months expiry.

Most stores should have decent stock levels.

The bars are decent. 6/7 out of 10 for a protein bar (imo). The toffee flavour in the muscle deluxe isn't great though.

cheap bar but god that nutrient panel doesn't look great haha

    • too much sugar?

      • fat + sugar + Carbs all look pretty high.

Yeah the carbs/fats are way to high for the level of protein the bar is giving….its probably easier to be looked at as a mass gainer than a protein bar (which too many people consider a healthy snack). The sugar content is very high and then there is another 7g of artificial sweetener in there on top of that (not the biggest issue) but it raises the question of why there is so much sugar if the bar contains sweetener as well….

If you are after a protein bar as a snack and trying to lose weight you are better off with something like a quest bar or the BSC low carb bars.

Most “mass”, “bulk” etc. bars have higher calories. The macros for these bars is about par compared to other brands. These types of bars serve a purpose, fat loss isn’t one of them.

  • Great deal for your first time post, and I second your comment regarding toffee flavour.
The Choc or the Cookies and Cream are great!

  • I guess perhaps because that's the "Muscle Mass" bar? The "Ripped Muscle" bars look a lot better, and are the same price. Just grabbed some at Fortitude Valley store. Still heaps left.

You could / should also add the INC Shred Max Pro Bar to the post, much less sugar (5.5g per serve) and are also $0.49

Protein is bad for the kidneys and liver if over 15% of daily calories.

    • Based on?
      Pretty broad statement to make.

Can't imagine any active adult damaging their liver or kidney by increasing their protein intake to help recover and rebuild muscle tissue.

        http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/hack/how-getting-shre…

Gabrielle Matson, a Sydney-based dietician and spokesperson for Dietitians Australia, said she'd had clients who had taken too much creatine - a popular supplement used to put on muscle mass - and ended up in emergency for several days with acute kidney failure.

"Other friends of mine, bodybuilders, ended up in the emergency department with heart palpitations and irregular heartbeat from the cocktail of stimulants like caffeine and creatine and also protein," she said.

"I guess it's underground, this information at the moment, but as health practitioners we see it every day as the clients we come across."

In 2015, a Perth man lost his liver and came close to death after taking a protein powder with a green tea extract additive. Matt Whitby, 29, told Hack he bought the supplement over the internet from Melbourne after doing some online research. He said after drinking two or three shakes over a period of two weeks he began to feel tired and his eyes turned yellow. The doctors in emergency immediately guessed he had liver problems.

Told he had two weeks to live without a liver transplant, Matt was forced to accept a liver infected with hepatitis B. This means he will take meds every day for the rest of his life and has a higher risk of developing other liver problems.

Article briefly glosses over the fact that these people mentioned more than likely had pre existing conditions.

How much creatine? How much stimulants? (Not mentioned in the article)

Of course don't be an idiot with any supplement. You can open your pantry and swallow a 1kg of sugar if you want as well.

Type any ingredient/food into Google and you will find some scare campaign.

Health is a religion these days. Just don't take it too seriously and don't be closed minded enough to think your way is the only way.

  • Grabbed 13 of the choc 'ripped muscle'. Guy in store says that this is going to be right up until christmas eve - so still plenty of time to head down.
