Oh come on, I was just going to get pixel xl 2 from the jb deal.

    Anyone in the same conundrum?

    • +3

Apart from pure Android experience, Pixel XL 2 has nothing better to offer in comparison to Note 8.

      • thanks, you've convinced me. but the camera on the pixel seems so good. better battery life as well. negligible?

        • If you look at benchmarks then yes, otherwise cameras on all flagships are great. Don't forget both cameras on note 8 have OIS. If you have battery concern then remember it comes with quick charge/wireless charge so you can always top it up in 15 mins.

  • Does anyone thinks price will go further south or is it a good price to pull the trigger?

    • Sub $1k on a 64gb Note Flagship is an pretty amazing price - It'll be rare to see prices this good I think. Make sure a note is what yo uwant though - The stylus is great and the phone is great albeit large.

      • Thanks for your reply. I'm indeed looking for Note 8. Best looking phone in my opinion with solid specs and. Although I feel its a bit too tall but then I have used Nexus 6P in past and its almost similar size to that so I should not have any issues adjusting to it.

    • So today I went to JB-HI-FI, Harvey Norman, Good Guys and Samsung Retail directly, none of them said they can go below $1348 right now. They also said its highly unlikely prices will go down on boxing day, unless Samsung reduces the price directly . But I am waiting it out cause this deal will go until boxing day anyway. So if nothing pops up going to pull the trigger on the Amaysim deal with 2Yr Local warranty, since this deal is already price jacked by $20.

BTW if you are interested Samsung was giving $200 bonus trade in credit with most phones I think. They said they will take my phone for $300 if I purchased the note 8. (I have the Galaxy S6)

  • any warranty on these products?

  • Price of note has reduced drastically. It's very scary with Samsung. How cheap have we seen the cheapest import on ozb this year?

    • It's scarier with LG if you're referring to price drops lol

This is the cheapest import so far… I think most manufacturers are realising prices close to $1.5k for a phone are a hard sale… but around $1k people will push the button

Yeah,Apparently people are reluctant to pay 1500+ even for Iphone X let alone an Android. Its just too much money to pay for a phone.

  • Just beware of buying overseas stock. If it is damaged particularly glass cracked, it will be very costly to have it fixed and Samsung Australia will not touch it. Better to wait for boxing day sale and hope one of our B&M store will run a similar sale to the previous deals.

    • Not necessarily the case with broken screens.
Samsung don't touch it if it's cracked anyways, if it's cracked on arrival the seller will replace it or you just pay for shipping insurance.

I bought a OnePlus 5 from a HK seller and it had a hairline crack when it arrived, it was replaced a week later.

      • I think what he meant was that if you have a aussie stock samsung and you drop it and it cracks you can pay samsung to replace the screen. But if its grey stock apparently samsung wont replace the screen or even touch the phone even if you are willing to pay.

So you would need to get a third party repairer to replace the screen which might be a tough ask as its just been 3 months since the Note 8 got released and they may not have the parts etc.

For the record,i have a grey stock Note 8.

    • Get an AMEX Essentials card and pay with that. Get free smartphone screen insurance. Excess is 10% of the repair cost.

      • I actually have an Amex Essentials card and did buy it through the Amex for the smartphone screen insurance and one year extra warranty. However that still doesnt change the "need to get a third party repairer to replace the screen which might be a tough ask as its just been 3 months since the Note 8 got released and they may not have the parts etc."

So if you can get aussie stock for similar prices then go for it. I missed the one day $978 deal with Harvey Norman and i could have got it for $878 as i had the amex $100 offer.

        • Did you actually try, or is that just your assumption that they wouldn't have parts? Repairers know where to buy parts. They aren't getting second hand parts from broken phones I hope.

In any case, try not to break your phone within 3 months.

      • Do you think the 90-day Purchase Security Insurance (insurance against loss, theft or accidental damage on most personal items purchased - for 3 months from the date of purchase) in ANZ Rewards Platinum card covers smartphone screen?

        • +1

I think 'accidental damage' should cover a cracked screen. Go for it. You've got nothing to lose in any case.
