I've seen these at Daiso as well. Not sure of the price (probably similar).

    • +2

Correct. It’s exactly the same as this and is $2.90 from Daiso.

I just leave my bags open and eat the bugs. With this thing I could seal the bugs in.

    • +4

It aint abt the bugs, its abt keeping the bugs crispy

These are terrible! They pretty much slice through plastic. Also you can easily electrocute your self. Very unsafe.

    • +3

Also you can easily electrocute your self.

      Not from 3V @ 800mA you can't.

      • Actually, I thought mine wasn't working, so just when I was about to give up I touched the sealing part and it was burning hot. Anyways, it still doesn't do what it's meant to do. It just slices through the plastic.

        • +3

So that sounds like you were burnt through conduction. That's not an electric shock, and it's definitely not electrocution (death caused by electric shock). Did you get an electric shock?

So what is your evidence for this (let's be kind) being an electric shock hazard? I'm genuinely interested as someone considering purchasing.

        • @jacross:
Ye, It was probably a burn and felt like one. However, it's just some wires going around connected to the battery. It has nothing else. I think it's just electric currents going into the wire which heats up the plastic pad

Luckily, I'm still alive and I still take responsibility for being a dumbass and touching it.

      • Just to play devils advocate here, 100mA is enough to kill you if it gets into your blood stream (very little resistance).

There are actually stories of people dieing from testing 9v batteries with their tongue. (I havent seen a confirmed report but it is technically possible).

Agreed, mine pretty much broke on the first day. Afterwards went with an aldi vacuum sealer, works well+vacuum sealing stuff is great for freezing/sous vide cooking.

These machines are crap. Literally nothing but a bit of nichrome wire with a small current running through it. Doesn't "seal" your bags so much as melt through the plastic and smell bad.

  • +4

    Absolute f*)$#@ing junk.
Wasted my heard earned $4 to get of these.

    • +2

I was stupid enough to buy 3 of these before. Thought it was going to be something really handy and cool. Turns out it's garbage.

    • +2

Totally agree. I bought this a few years ago. Completely useless

  • +1

Also what's the deal? You can find cheaper ones on eBay for around $1 shipped.

    • Oh yeah, these are awesome. Remember to cover your bases by getting the short, long AND super long ones (for the XL bags of chips or whatever)

  • -1

Yes my wife bought one on eBay for $1.50 and I’m not sure what the negs are all about but as works fine it’s cheap and nasty but it does the job at seals the plastic bag every time

  • +1

Little more than $1 on Ali

These things are a relic of the 80's "As Seen on TV" advertorials.

  • Yep pretty sure I've seen these way cheaper elsewhere. Online or at Daiso for $2.80 if you want it quickly.

As for the quality it's a bit hit and miss but I find certain plastic pocket bags seem to work better than others for a quick wrap of individual items like a kids goodie bag.

Meh.. just use a light sabre on low setting.

  • I bought a similar one and found it very handy. I re-seal alot of my grocery items by it. Just cannot use it on some really thin/weak plastic packaging.
