Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Headphones $149 USD ($195 AUD) Plus Delivery @ Massdrop

50

Our third collaboration with Sennheiser, the HD 58X Jubilee represents the next evolution in the much-loved lineup that includes the HD 580, HD 600, and HD 650.

In 1991, Axel Grell joined Sennheiser and designed the HD 580 Precision: the headphone that would launch a much-loved series—and the peak of the company’s audiophile headphones for more than 25 years. Four years later, to mark its 50th anniversary, Sennheiser released the HD 580 Jubilee, which would later become the HD 600 and lead to the HD 650. In the spirit of the HD 580, with current technology and optimizations learned throughout the series’ rich history, we’re excited to release the newest evolution: the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee. Tuned by Axel Grell and Massdrop based on feedback from the audiophile community, it features new 150-ohm drivers and a colorway inspired by the HD 580 Precision that started it all.

The HD 58X launches Friday, December 22 at 6 a.m. PT (USA) for $149.99 (USD) with free US shipping.

I'd spend an extra $50USD for the HD6xx. But this will be good for people getting into headphones.

    • Agreed, the 150ohm impedence of these makes them much more accessible. And I'm not a huge fan of the midnight blue of the HD6xx :)

I have a DAC/AMP combo that my partner gave me, they're much more into audio than I. He has the HD6xx's already, I'm looking for something I can use both at home and whilst out, based on experience with the 580's in the past do you think these would be driven well just from a 3.5mm jack on my phone?

        • Haven't tried the HD 580, but have tried the HD700 (also 150ohm) in David Jones the other day both from phone and from DAC they have set up. Much clearer and more enjoyable sound when played through DAC. Plus, the open back on the headphones won't be great if you're out and about in a noisy environment.

@Souljacker: I agree, I have a pair of Sennheiser GameOne's that I primarily use when I'm at home, and Shure SE215's or my Gear Icon X's when I'm out but just looking for something more comfortable for long trains. Appreciate your help though.

        • I grabbed the HD4.50 from JB $199 (down from $329) as my cheapish travel headphones. How are the Gear Icon X's for sound quality and fit? Need to find somewhere i can try these out

        • @Souljacker: I have the 2018 model or whatever the most recent one is. It pairs fine with my S8. I get some cutout but not very often at all, the quality is honestly much better than I expected it to ever be. Plus it charges using USB-C which is a huge bonus.

Open back headphones can't be used for outside. In your case, i'd recommend Beyerdynamic DT770 32ohm or 80ohm version. Made in Germany and craftmanship is top notch.

      • You only see the blue hue in really bright light. It's more like black if you don't really pay attention to it:)

I can't be that difficult to have the cord come off just one side of the headphones.

    • Why do you want the cord coming out of one side? It'll make it harder to replace parts and cable if something fails and there are no benefits from having the cable coming out of one side.

  • 6 months wait guys btw
