Gainward GeForce GTS 250 1GB, $79 + Postage at PC Case Gear

220

A bit of a dated card, but I figure it is not bad for the second PC or a cheap upgrade if you are on really old hardware. Static Ice has next cheapest price at $119 for a Gigabyte model -> http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=GIGABYTE%20…

First graphics card post, please be graphic :P

  • Dated but OK price-value, I guess.

  • Dated?
I thought it was a newish GPU. I think you mean slow or not very powerful. Anything beats my 9500GT, but I wouldn't call it dated, just a budget series 9 card.

    • It's over a year old, which is quite a long time in the world of computers. Otherwise though, yes, quite a decent card. I've got one and it plays everything at max settings, usually w/ 2x AA, etc.

  • Hmm, time for a dedicate PhysX card me thinks…
Just shame it requires a 6pin power :-/

  • Pretty decent card for the price. I build a cheap PC for a friend about 6 months ago and I used this card. Could play most games at a decent resolution and high settings.

  • very nice price :)

Thanks OP. Bought 5 of them to play lan games at work :p

  • is it better than nVidia GeForce 9800GTX?

I got that card 2 years ago and still runs games well but this is cheap, if it's a big performance gain ill get it.

    • The GTS 250 is just a re-packaged 9800 GTX+.

It's definitely not worth getting if you already own a 9800 GTX series — it's not much of an upgrade.

      • Cheers, I wont bother with it.

I paid $379 for my card and a month later the + came out and much cheaper. Still a great card, runs everything at max.

  • Get a pair of these in SLI and get equivalent performance of a single 5850 for $80 less.

    • Provided that you have a capable motherboard of course.

        And a capable PSU.

  • Good price, good enough to put inside the PC as Physx card.
Too bad it looks uglier than the "Batmobile" cooler.
This one looks like some old lady's hair clip or something.

How's this compared to 9800gt (Not GTX) in terms of performance, size and power consumption?

  • Also note that this is a downclocked version of the card (note the deep green bit)

  • Bought and recieved within 2 days. Replaced my old 9600GT 256mb. From Fair Settings on WoW @ 20FPS to 60 FPS on good or 30 on high, it was a great upgrade!
