Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick - $47 from EB Games

120

Looking at my Steam pile of shame recently (as I'm sure we all do this time of year), and saw X-Wing vs Tie Fighter staring at me, sitting unplayed for years due to the lack of a joystick. A quick Google suggested the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro as the best budget joystick, and I was surprised to find that EB Games have it cheaper than anyone else at the moment with their Boxing Day sale.

Free click and collect for those near stores, and most stores seem to have stock.

Don't know. Maybe it hasn't but I couldn't find it on the website. I'll give them a call.

Yep - just rang the local and they said yes it is still available.

Not sure if it's still available but when I bought this joystick the other day I was able to pick a free game between Prey, Wolfenstein II and one other game that escapes me. Good deal if you can get it!

    • Evil Within 2 - I got it as I had the others :)

Yeah that's it. I picked up Wolfenstein II. Great game :-) (even better price)

  • Great entry level Joystick!

    • Yeah so far have it working on Mac and PC (Win 10) no problems. Plug and play. Plenty of customisable buttons, a throttle, hat button for views. Very happy with this joystick.

….this would be nice for ace combat 7 + PSVR ver2

  • Shame they still don't make the force feedback one.

    • Good thing I still have my old 3d force pro (force feedback)…..will see if it works with ace combat 7 when it releases for pc….

      • I sold mine on eBay about a year ago, still brand new in the box.

Got more than I paid, sold it for $195 + shipping.

I bought mine $5 ….from a church garage sale so I am very happy.

        • @luffyex2010:

          Now that is a bargain.

  • I still have a serial port Microsoft sidewinder from 1997, works a treat (with USB adaptor). They don't make PC parts like they used too.

    • yeah sidewinder joysticks were great! which usb adaptor are you using? i tried a few and they never worked well, the signal was never converted properly by the adaptors so any joystick axis movements became very jerky and inaccurate

      • It's a Microsoft one I bought back in 1998. Doesn't have any info on it except for Microsoft. It's quite large and grey. About 15cm long cable.

        • hmm that's too bad guess they wouldn't make those anymore

Have had 3 copies of this. My preference is for the long discontinued Force 3d. The springs on this one are very stiff. Fine for short sessions but will start to hurt after 2-3 hours of use. At least it does for me.

    • You need to try some wrist exercises. Multiple short circuits per day can work wonders. The internet can help out with work out videos if you do a quick search.

      • Actually, I'm the other side of 40 and need carpal tunnel surgery at some stage.

BUT noticed this long before those issues started. Before kids (almost 10 years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and the original Wii was cool and new), I use to spend a couple of hours a day on MS Flight Sim and Realflight (r/c sim). Other joysticks never gave me issues. Force3D is a little too loose for my liking in fact, as it uses the motor to hold it neutral, and though that's adjustable it never quite feels like springs.

In contrast Extreme3D could give you RSI. I don't need wrist exercises. Extreme3D IS wrist exercises. Just not very good for you.

        • Do you find modern joysticks have less travel than older models? What I mean is the joystick handle will travel further to one side before reaching full lock.

        • @Expon:

I don't have a lot of experience with newer joysticks. I'd guess it depends on the individual model rather than the age. Higher end will always be better.

Personally I always wanted an X52 (and also logitech G25 driving wheel) but never could justify the spend. I already have 10 year old CH Yoke and Pedals, which are still great, especially the pedals.

A Thrustmaster T-Flight might be a better (more affordable) choice if I lived in the US, but I don't like having the throttle attached to the stick like that. Such a waste. Logitech use to make great stuff and some of the new stuff is still good or awesome (Regarding wheels I wouldn't mind a G920 or G29 but again can't justify it - I bearly sim anymore).

I could bankrupt myself with simming gear if I didn't have self control ;-) I'd also spend more time setting it up than flying.

  • picked one of these up like 5 years ago at about the same price. Cant beleive they havent changed!

  • Crap it’s $3 cheaper than what i paid 6 months ago.

+1 for mentioning X-wing vs Tie fighter!

I have the B-wing expansion on 'backup' 3.5inch floppies, donno how to add it to the game tho.

    • that'd probably be the expansion missions from "X-Wing", which was part of the earlier DOS game series. x-wing vs tie fighter was a newer update that came on cd-rom…

i think the b-wing expansion missions would come with the x-wing collector's edition which u can buy on gog.com

      • Ah, yes you are right, there was an earlier X-Wing game. Wish they would release a new one! Or a new Jedi Knight Dark Forces!

        • Yes if only! Seems unlikely though..
