Pest control - DIY - how to do ?

We have always had out unit pest controlled by a pest control company. Due to living in an extremely humid city, we have had to call out the guys a few times in their 1 year of warranty do deal with recurring cockroaches. The only thing that bothers us is cockroaches.

Our unit is clean and there is barely any clutter and no food left around etc. This time around the pest control guy just came in and sprayed something on the bottom and top of the boundaries on the walls with his magical spray. "I have sprayed your house with blah and that should take care of them all"

I am thinking, I can get that chemical/spray and do this myself. Has anyone done pest control of their homes themselves ? If so, what did you use and how did you go ?

The usual Mortein/etc baits and mist sprays etc dont work.

If you can, call the pest company and say you’re worried about the toxicity of what they’re spraying. Ask them to supply a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Its a pretty standard document, but it should tell you exactly what they use - then you could figure out where to source it from.

  • http://www.agserv.com.au/ They sell to public but industry pest controllers as well. You don't need a license to buy this stuff.
Dunno what happened to their ecommerce but it was around. Place order over phone. DIrect to public.

I use Temprid 45 for external perimeter. Maxforce Gel for internal cabinets, kitchen etc. One tube lasts for years.

Get a QUALITY sprayer from Bunnings (handheld 1.5L is fine).

All up should cost you under $150 and be good for about 5 years worth of applications. I apply twice yearly and have very few cockroach sightings.

  • Think you mean Temprid 75.

OP just look on your receipt. It should list the chemicals used. Best chemical for cockies at the moment is Termidor but it’s a lot dearer than Temprid.

  • For cockies as well as temprid you’d do well to pick up advion cockroach gel, also used by professionals you can find it on eBay

  • Relatedly, are the annual pest control in a landed residential property - worth it? The previous owners of the house used to get it done annually at $400. Am wondering if i can do it myself?

There is fair bit of timber work in house and it backs on to reserve. It is fairly dry n ventilated property but termites is certainly an area of consideration.

Check out Easy Pest Supplies. They essentially supply to the pro’s but are keen to sell to anyone. They’ve also got a large “how to” section for all sorts of pests
I’d suggest that living near a tract of open land doesn’t necessarily increase the chance of termites that much, but will certainly increase the range of little visitors. Just be aware that the smaller native cockroaches rarely go into homes, much preferring to stay in the leaf litter of the bush

    • thanks. Hv reached out to them - may be they can suggest some plan

    • Professional pestie’s wouldn’t go near these blokes. Their prices are almost double what real pest supply shops charge.

      • Which are some of those supply shops?
