  • picked up a 6 pack of brooklyn lager a few days ago. lived off this stuff in the US (and its a shame we don't get some of the other varieties here). great deal!

Locally brewed by Coopers doubt it tastes as good.

ive got one in my hand now and it says "brewed and bottled at the brooklyn brewery, 79 north 11th street, brooklyn". It's imported by coopers though…so nice try.

        • IIRC the keg version is brewed by Coopers. Bottles are imported.

        • @Matt P: 100% correct

  • How does the Young Henrys Pale ale compare to bridgeroad pale ale???

    • +1

It's not as hoppy as the Bridge Road one. A little maltier maybe.

Whether or not those are good things will depend on your own preferences obviously - but I like 'em both.

    • I like American style pale ales, with lots of fruity hops, and found it underwhelming as I was expecting that.
But I also quite like an Aussie pale, like a coopers, and found it delivered a full, malty beer.
Happy to drink it with that in mind, but won’t go seeking it.

If you like a fruity, bitter beer, they have a summer ale that I like a lot, but is too costly. I still have a case from a previous special waiting for my holiday away.

  • Also Asahi 6 packs for $15. Hope it's imported!

    • +1

Can confirm they are imported from Japan. Just not as big as the normal ones

      • Bottles are from China though :(

        • Anyone who drinks the bottles needs to re-evaluate their choices in life

        • +1

          @quietsarcasm:
Is it the case the cans are always Japanese and the bottles on license?

        • +1

          @mskeggs: In my experience, yes

  • +1

Talisker Storm is there as well. $70 for 'members'.

  • -2

$10 would be a bargain, but not $15

    • +2

I also miss the $10 six packs of quality beers, I guess you got negged for your reminiscence, because nobody would neg based on reputation alone!

      • +2

I got negged by people who like to pay an extra 50% for their beer.

        • +2

yeah, the term “ craft” seems to attract a premium for what is an industrial process, hence they can make it under license anywhere provided they have the right hops and clean.

        • -1

@garage sale: But to be fair they do have to pay for all those beard trimmers and trucker hats.

        • nope .. doubt they even read what you wrote just saw jv. LOL or they had too many of the $15 six packs.. those + - buttons are even trickier to get right on a phone after a few drinks lolll

      • +1

Yeah, MDM isn't what it used to be. Now it seems they use it to clear excess stock from the warehouse. Some things are on special more than once per year.

I got 6 of the Cricketers pale ale (5.2%) for $12.

    • It’s ok, but like 150 lashes, they are too light on the hops for me to get excited.
That said, I have become addicted to the hops, and I recognise there is a place for people seeking a lighter fruit ale.

      • Yes agreed about the hops. It's my go to 'cheap' pale ale for summer.

        • +1

yeah, i’ve gotten into the hops also as i like to taste what i pay for …. drinking squires hop thief at the moment as it was $48 slab at DM for christmas ….. would love at least the same level of hops but at a cheaper price or bigger bottles.

if i want light flavour there are the 500ml cans of becks, stella etc cheap at DM,

hate these 330ml bottles compared to 375ml ….. 10% less and cost more….

        • @garage sale: yea hate those 330mls. My favourite DMs deal was 6 cans of Fancy Pants for $13 or $14 3 or 4 months ago. Seriously good beer, nicely hopped and 375ml.

    • for $12 that's not a bad price. they improved their recipe earlier this year it doesn't taste like water anymore

      • Yea it's a pretty solid pale ale!

  • Brooklyn Brown is decent, better than the lager that's for sure.

  • Liking the $40 Steamrail IPA cartons from Liqorland.
Been this price on regular basis now.

    • That's Coles brewed swill…there's a reason it's cheap (and nasty).

      • hahahahah that's so funny!
take it you rinse with Evian and not tap water!

        • -2

Oh princess! Didn’t realise your jimmies were so easily rustled…so sorry to shatter the illusion you were drinking “fancy” beer. Keep saving, you’ll afford a carton of Becks one day ;)

  • +1

Budvar cartons are $49.95 too…good price for an outstanding beer.

    • Might be a regional thing. $67 in QLD

  • Didn't know the Can asahi's came in 375ml. Will be stocking up heaps this month :D
