NEWYEAR18

Hi guys,

This is my first post ever and have been searching for a good dual channel dashcam for a while now then stumbled across these deals.

BlackVue DR750S-2CH $550.05 [with coupon]
http://dashcamsaustralia.com.au/shop/dashcams/blackvue/black…

DOD RC500S-2CH $483.55 [with coupon]
https://dashcamsaustralia.com.au/shop/dashcams/dod/dod-rc500…

FREE DELIVERY
Coupon: NEWYEAR18

I reckon these are great deals, just about to pull the trigger on one of these two.
Can anybody care to comment which one they would get?

Both have pros and cons, like the DOD RC500S-2CH seems to have bugs and app issues, as well as no pre-buffering recording upon impact during parking mode.

Then there's Blackvue DR750S-2CH which seems solid but doesn't have amazing video quality like the DOD RC500S which is important when you want to see number plates in order to make a fuss free insurance claim or court case ;)

Take a look at the comparison video link below, it outlines how good the DOD RC500S-2CH is at detecting number plates.

Update #1:
I called autobarn and they are selling the Blackvue DR750S-2CH at $599 including the power magic pro hard wiring kit.
If you sign up for the autobarn club, you will get 20% off your next purchase.
So that brings down the price to $479.20
During the Christmas sale Autobarn was selling this for around $419 excluding hard wiring kit (that's the 30% off sale), with hard wiring kit its about $450.
I unfortunately missed it, as i wasn't thinking about dashcams too much then.
Its about $30 difference by comparing the xmas sale to the 20% membership price.

Update #2:
The Autobarn Autoclub discount is 20% for instore purchase only and capped at a maximum discount of $50.
If you buy the Blackvue DR750S-2CH with Power Magic Pro at $599, the price will come down to $549, not $479.20 (disregard update #1)

Blackvue. I got the DR650S-2CH front and rear when Automotive Superstore had a sale, it reads plates very clearly and it hasn't played up since installation. Well worth the money imo

    • How long have you had it for? No app issues and parking mode works all good and all?

      • +1

Since August 2017. App works a charm if you keep it updated, I couldn't decide whether to get it hardwired for parking mode or use the power magic battery pack but I ended up getting it hardwired with the power magic pro kit which turned out to be so much cheaper and effective. I've had it running 24-7 since August, it has had no effect on my battery.
Parking mode records 24-7 or your desired time, comes in handy at shopping centre car parks, have actually caught someone nudging my car door and leaving without a note. Got their plate and reported it to police

        • haha that's exactly what you want, to catch that inconsiderate person.
Do you have a CPL filter on yours? (circular polarized lens)

          According to this video:
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuZT3AxGqGI&t=163s

It seems like the DOD RC500S is only performing so well at catching number plates at night or in moving motion because of the CPL filter it has.
Other than that, i'm gobsmacked as to why the Blackvue doesn't do as well as DOD, same len sensors i believe?

        • +1

          @lalala5042:

Exactly right! I've never actually heard of the CPL filter for blackvue, but it will still capture plates in motion or without if the record setting is set to highest 1080p full hd mode. Will check out the filter now though, cheers

        • @koalafied:

Yea the blackvue has a CPL filter as well, but its such a hefty price just for one lens, and who knows if it does any wonders since you're still catching clear number plates.

But based on what you've said, i reckon i'll go with Blackvue, unless someone jumps in and says otherwise? haha
          cheers mate

        • did you get anything back from the police anyway?

  • +1

I've got the DR750S in single channel and I reckon it's good enough for reading number plates. Works well for night footage as well.

    • Thanks for your feedback mate :)

  • Hi Guys,

I am looking for a decent Dashcam front and back which can be hard wired in to the car.
I want motion senor for when the cars parked up, also I would like to be able to store videos in the cloud.

    Any recommendations?

    Ta

    • In this post only Blackvue DR750S-2CH can do this (if i'm not mistaken about the cloud feature).
From my research I've narrowed dashcams down to the 2 I've listed here.
Have a look at the video comparison, let me know if you decide to pull the trigger and why. Good luck! :)

    • You can’t really upload anything to the cloud unless the dashcam has a wifi connection from somewhere.

With the blackvue, you can remotely connect to the camera as well with two way audio. Then again, that’s if there’s a wifi somewhere.

    • +1

I’m using the Thinkware F770 which has better quality footage especially night mode compared to the Blackvue. It’s full 1080p front and rear, has hard wire function with two parking modes (time lapse or full video)

i've got 2x DR750S-2CH - both with impeccable quality and straightforward to use. not sure this is an amazing price though? I got 2x 750S + 2x magic power box + 2x installation at Autobarn before Xmas for $440/ea

    • wow! that really is a bargain! its looking like $602 with hardwiring kit using dashcamaustralia.
You're so lucky! wish i had seen that earlier

      • i was happy with it - basically 30% off the unit itself @ $418/ea, they threw in the power boxes (goes to show the horrendous mark up on these) and gave me $80 installation per unit.

        • yea that's amazing, and including installation, all that hardwiring work done by a professional. While i still got to do it myself.

Got the BlackVue 750 2 channel for $419 over Christmas

    Holy shit people.

Just buy a $40 dashcam from a ChinaStore and be done with it. You all are insane to be spending so much money.

      No thankyou

Many people have insurance excesses over $1k, and repair bills can be much more than that. Having solid evidence of an offender and that it's not your fault is worth at least a couple of hundred dollars to me and many others…

There's also a lot of (profanity) around and a brake check or reversing incident without witnesses or video would generally result in 100% fault for the rear car. To be sure, something is better than nothing, but when someone writes off your car and speeds off, you'll be glad you can see the numberplate and driver's face.

      • Well said, couldn't have said it better, hence why everyone wants a dashcam in the first place.

    • Did I ever tell you about the time a $40 dash camera saved me from a 20 year stretch in the big house?

I had the DR650s-2CH for over a year with no problems, it does it's job. Recently upgraded to the DR750s-2CH and the quality is a lot better especially with the 60fps sports mode. A lot easier to see number plates while driving and even while parked. There's a huge improvement with playing a video over the wi-fi compared to the DR650s. In terms of parking mode, better to go with hardwiring as oppose to battery packs. I have a battery pack and it is such a pain to turn it on/off before driving as I didn't have a direct route to the fuse box without making a hole in the car's firewall (Jeep inconveniences).

The DOD RC500s has better picture quality compared to DR750s in some circumstances. However it does not have cloud services like the Blackvue which is very useful. Only downside to cloud services is having a constant hotspot device when in parking mode (unless parked at home, then you can use your home wifi)

The Blackvue 4K dashcam is apparently coming out soon if you want to hold off on that, but the 4K version would still run 30fps as opposed to the 1080p 60fps on the DR750s. Really depends on your preference.

    • Yea i'm not really into the cloud feature because it must have wifi internet connection, in my circumstances, wifi will only be available when its parked at home, unless i start paying for monthly subscription on portable mobile internet in my car, i don't think its useful.
Other than that, what's there to hate about the DOD RC500S? i hear the app is buggy which is a deal breaker, and isn't as reliable as the blackvue? (no source, don't correct me on that)

yea i might go with the blackvue.
      cheers

    • Good point here, agree on what you said.
Don't think you really do need 4k footage to show that you are innocence, most of the average consumers do not have 4k tv.

  • If you have ebay’s NEW10 coupon in your account, it’s slightly cheaper to buy via its eBay store

I bought one on a eBay sitewide sale, and went for a 128gb card. This dashcam in terms of the app is absolutely great! Super easy to download a clip to your phone and then edit/share as you please.
Reason I bought the 128gb Blackvue card despite it being really pricy, is I read reviews that some high end cards don't work properly in high heat and certain situations and that's the last thing you'd want to have your dashcam not work when you need it.

My one issue is I havent figured out how to make it only save motion/shock in parking mode, so it saves everything, you might think this is good but at 1080p60fps front and 1080p30fps rear, 128gb is only about 11hours.
This could just be me not being able to figure this out.

Upgraded from a MiVue 588, video quality isnt a huge upgrade, but usability and hardwiring with powermagic pro was a massive upgrade!

    • Hi there,
Thanks for your feedback, i was just about to ask about the Blackvue SD cards, i'm also looking into the 128gb variant.
How long have you had your blackvue DR750S-2CH for? I'm assuming you bought your blackvue sd card at the same time, has it been holding up well?
I've read some horrifying reviews that blackvue sd cards only last about 8 months, a few users had to replace their sd cards at that alarming rate.
The 128gb card is around $150 and then some, so its a hefty amount.

People are also mentioning make sure the sd card is MLC rated or whatever that means…
A bit confused on what is a good sd card if anyone can shed some light?

I've used the Samsung EVO plus 128GB and Lexar 633x 128GB and they both failed on me eventually. At the start they would seem fine, but then when it gets hot it'll start to fail. I've read that the Blackvue SD cards can hold heat longer and more efficiently (don't hold my word on it, can't find source anymore). You can give it a go with other brands, but you might eventually go to a Blackvue SD card like me, better to save your money and buy the Blackvue straight away, although very pricey.

        Samsung: Lasted 2 weeks~
        Lexar: Lasted 3 weeks~
Blackvue: 1 year+ no issues yet

        • Thanks so much for your information.
Yea that's pretty crazy, the Samsung only lasted you 2 weeks? that's a bit of a joke.

Will take your advice and play it safe, i'll get the blackvue 128gb variant.

  • Hi OP,
Which autobarn you rang for $599 with magic pro? Their website is showing $599 without magic pro.
    Thanks.

    • Yes the website is without power magic pro, but if you give any autobarn store a call they should be able to do you a deal.
I hear the power magic pro is heavily marked up, so they should throw it in as well.
      I called autobarn bayswater vic.
