Sony Ericsson X10 with Optus on $29/mo 24m Cap Plan

70

We've seen this deal before back in October when Optus had trouble moving the stock. Shortly, it went up to $49/mo and later $79/mo. Well Optus has decided from the price testing that $29 is a suitable plan for a device that has not won much acclaim. However, it is still a Sony, and has a pretty good camera.

Combined with first 2 months free, it costs a whopping $638 after 24 months. This deal beats the $49/mo offer on Vodafone. Caveat: 200Mb per month of data isn't much to crow over.

Sony is not known to keep the Android up to date, but Sony has updated it to 2.1 (was 1.6) - I'm not sure if the Optus phone has been updated or not. http://www.cnet.com/8301-19736_1-20021222-251.html

As for Sony's legendary unresponsiveness to user demands - it looks like things are changing. X10 is getting multitouch. http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/11/17/official-xperia-x10-will…

  • Is this a better phone than the LG Optimus One?

    • +4

      By far mate
      By…..Far

It has a capacitive screen vs Optimus resistitive
It has 8.1 megapixel, 16x digital zoom, Geo-tagging, Face recognition camera vs 3 megapixel for Optimus
      Display res 854 x 480 pixels vs Optimus One's 480 x 320 pixels
screen size of 4.0 inches vs Optimus One 3.2

Optus has already releases 2.1 for X10 so it is probably the best phone in the $29 price range for an android device!

      • lg optimus one is capacitive buddy :)

        • Sorry about that..given every other LG touch phone is resistive, I remembered the O1 being resistive as well… but the multi-touch is not very well implemented

Fact is though X10 is a SE flagship model while Optimus One is a LG budget android device.

  • Why would I want X10 of them? ;)

  • I got one of these on the last $29 offer ($26.58 with the 2 mth free online order bonus) and it is a fantastic phone/satnav/internet/wifi/etc…
The Optus 1.6 software was not bad compared to some other telcos versions.
Android 2.1 is oficially released for Optus X10's and available through the standard SE update process.
The 200mb internet is fine for checking emails etc and there are a lot of free sites included … Facebook, Ebay, etc…

  • Just ordered this deal yesterday :D

excited for my first smart phone! and glad that it's not an iphone… :)
