[NSW] Complimentary / Free Premium Haircut @ Detail for Men Sydney CBD

620

Hey Guys,

First post here. This deal has already been done a couple of times before but has since expired:

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/267067

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/211573

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/181720

You have to submit your details and like their page on facebook. They should ring you back (rang me back on the same day).

I went in yesterday and got a cut from them. They do attempt to sell you products, but you can respectfully decline and they do not badger (at least in my experience), they also will try to convince you to make another appointment (I told them I would ring them up). The cut itself was very nice and they include a free shampoo and condition (before the cut), as well as a small massage, and a hot towel over your hair.

Ah I remember this. Kinda forgot about it and never crossed my mind to check if it was still active.

It was pretty good - definitely worth it for free and if it's not too out of the way, but wouldn't pay the real price.

    • +11

$89 for a hair cut, you might as well give them your ozbargain badge if you pay full price.

      • And I didn't even know (and admittedly didn't bother checking the real price) when I made that comment..

I assumed it would've been around $35-40 but $89 is absolutely absurd, particularly for men!

        • +5

Yep, as a true Ozbargainer I never pay more than $10 for a haircut. Usually get my haircut for $7 at Hurstville.

          @Aussie89:
or buy a pair of clippers and cut your own :)

        • @videlity: or just grow a permanent manbun :)

        • @Aussie89: Probably same place I do, just had it cut today. Cheap and efficient.

        • +1

@Aussie89: if its the same place they bump it up to $8 on weekends. Been stung in the past.

        • @Aussie89: Should do a gathering here of Ozbargainers because I go here as well.

        • +1

          @Aussie89:
I used to go there (back when it was $5) . Walked past other day and surprised its still doing those crazy cheap hair cuts.
I got put off going there a few years back though tbh, after an current affair expose about how people were sometimes getting awful haircuts on the cheap, then having to go pay more elsewhere to try to fix it :/ .
Hair doesn't really matter, nor do looks, but I have certainly noticed much more attention from the opposite sex after a good hair cut. Its a nice confidence boost.
I honestly dont think I ever got a terrible hair cut for the $5 at Hurstville. They do ok there.

        • +1

          @Aussie89: lol that's where i go!! Hurstville!

        • +1

@h4zey: whats the barber store name? just need a honest short and thin trim cut. sound good for $7.

        • Hurstville $7 haircuts plus +1
I timed how long I was in the chair once, 5min and 40 seconds.
          So good!!!

        • +4

@jpee: that’s what most men like, just a quick in and out.

        • +1

@leehungfei: don't remember it, it's close to the train station (exit to westfield) it's on the walk path between westfield and train station (ground level)

@eatwell365: only for the hair cut though

        • +1

@leehungfei: the barber store name is called 888 Hair Salon, and address is 1 Diment Way Hurstville

        • @eatwell365: if only women will understand that.

        • @sarahlee2201: They also opened one at Campsie but it's called 88 Hair Salon

        • @Aussie89: what's the cheapest one in the blue mountains and near a station? Am in Katoomba. I think local is around $35.

        • @Aussie89: please share details for us new to the area :)

      • expensive? what about Toni&Guy, but you can get a complimentary champagne as soon as you sit down.

        • Easier for them to get you to accept the bill if you are under the affects of alcohol ;-)

  • What's a Premium haircut?

    • +2

      What's a haircut?

    • +1

In this instance Premium means 'absurdly overpriced'

    • +1

A haircut that is so overpriced so that you can pay for their rent, utilities, stock, and employees wages, and still help them make a healthy profit.

    • It’s like premium unleaded or premium dominos….., a cut above.

    • Probably just called premiu
      1. Because they charge more and need to add the word 'premium' to justify extra cost.
      2. Because they wash your hair etc

  • Why the hell would you pay to get your hair shampooed? Do you not shower every day?

    • That's like asking why you would pay someone to clean your place….

    • +1

      What's a shower?

      • When you stand outside in the rain.

    • +1

I always thought it would make more sense (be appreciated) for them to wash your hair after cutting it unless someone has really dirty hair.

    • i've always questioned that - perhaps they anticipate someone from say the #haven'twashedinmonths category to rock up with head lice & the lot? … they do that for women cuts too and i've often wondered if it was just a pamper exercise - i know "wetting of the hair" helps when cutting… so perhaps a great excuse to wet and wash and charge more?

  • +2

They use proper British pudding bowls for the free premium cuts.

    • Do they have British pudding in them?

    • Mmm… pudding…

  • I've done this before. You have to deal with a couple of follow up calls asking you to come back 6-8 weeks later. Nice place though. I'd be ok to return if it wasnt $90 price tag.

    • +1

      I didn't even get any follow-up calls, I'm offended.

  • +2

Well this is not fair. How about the ones that aren't as blessed on top?

    • +4

      Bottom hair cut?

      • Not sure that would be appropriate though

        • Maybe would help those with itchy bottoms

  • +6

I personally didn’t like the experience. About an hour start to finish.
I’m a $7 in and out in 5mins haircut kind of guy.

    • +1

Hour long haircuts? No wonder they charge so much.

    • +1

Guess you'll love places like Singa's then. I remember seeing the barber signs saying they promise to cut your hair under a certain time thanks to their busy culture. Personally I'd rather they not work of a premise of rushing through time anyway. An hour is extreme for a typical men's cut though. An hour would be considered quick for the times I've known some girls being at the salon!

Not that it'll matter soon courtesy of my genes …

      • +1

there's probably a XIaomi smart product for that problem coming on sale any day now

    • Did they cut one hair at a time?

      • It is what it felt like,

  • +3

so is there any cheap parking nearby that won't turn a free haircut back into an $89 haircut?

    • +5

You'd have to be mad to drive into the CBD. Catch a bus or train.

      • if you go over the weekends (esp. in the mornings) then there are ample street parking in the area as they are in the middle of high rise office building.

  • Probably you're a Guinea pig for their trainees.

  • -2

Is this one of those places where they gossip like a bunch of housewives with gay men giggling in the background?

  • +1

just got a happy ending with them as well, cheers

    • I know it's very YMMV but Was that extra or included in the free session?

  • What happens if I disrespectfully decline their product sales? Will they mess my hair up?

    • +1

You don't need to be disrespectful to get what you want sometimes. Just decline nicely and I'm sure they don't mind.

  • Anything like this for other cities?

  • +2

this is a good deal. I completed the form this morning at 8:50, booked an appointment for 14:30 and Got a phone call at 9:20 to confirm my appointment.

Walked in was offered a free drink. Got a wash, head massage, cut, wash again and dry. All FREE for real no obligations.

They did try to sell you some expensive products but the staff didnt push it that much.

  • +1

Booked an appointment for today 3 days ago, no call to confirm my appointment.

    • Have u gotten one back yet?

      • Actually I got an email saying they tried contacting me, but they hadn't. I called them and they explained they were snowed under with bookings. I suggest if they don't call you, then give them a call.

  • +1

Just got my haircut and it went well. Excellent service and got a hot chick so that was a bonus hehe
