BNE/LAX for $950 is not a bargain. Only very recently Virgin had it for $936. Earlier sales see it sold for the high $800s. Not sure about the other prices.

I flew Air NZ few years ago ADL-LAX via AKL… very impressed with the plane, seats and most of all the service. The pilot was on his last flight after a long career and it was one of the smoothest flight.

    • How long was the flight?
One of my hesitations of flying air nz is having to go via nz - it feels like it's a bit of a back track…

      • ADL-1120 arr LAX-1445, don't know if other airlines have shorter times and flight times wasn't a consideration for me, as retired;-)

It depends a little on where you're going from/to. Compared to flying SYD/MEL direct to LA, you will add a few hours onto your travel time.

Something to keep in mind is that transiting in Auckland is, in my experience, much less painful than at MEL, SYD or (god forbid) LAX.

Another thing I appreciated was that when I flew MEL - LAX with AirNZ was that the AKL - LAX flight was an evening departure which made it much easier to get some sleep on the plane.

        • As I was flying ex-ADL I'd probably had to catch flight from either MEL or SYD. I don't have a problem with MEL but with SYD, you'd have to make your way from Domestic to International terminal, and the 5-minute bus ride costs $6.00, what a rip-off!!!
BUT, the overriding factor for me is the way you are treated by the Airline staff… the Air NZ staff were one of the most hospitable I've encountered, compared to some of the rather curt and abrupt manner my wife and I experienced with others, especially Qantas.
