  • Great deal @ ~AUD$130 shipped! Are these guys a ridgey-didge seller?

  • +6

    according to http://bewareoffakes.ghdhair.com/

yes, it is a legit store

    • Lol, beat me to it, just checked myself…positive from me! :)

  • Yeah I own two GHDs. I would be very cautious of the seller. The price is good though. However one good way of finding out if this site is genuine is by calling up ghd or emailing them and getting them to tell you if its real or fake site.

otherwise BUYERS BEWARE. plenty of fakes out there.

    • +4

asos is a pretty reputable site amongst most people. quite well known and very popular in aus.

  • Seems like a lot of dosh for a hair-straightener. What's the gimmick?

    • for women lol!

    • +3

Ask any woman, they always swear by GHD.

    • +3

My hairdresser relo's tell me nothing gets anything like the results of a GHD, literally! They're also all shocked that nobody has been able to reverse-engineer one either as yet!

Given the sheer ingenuity in places like mainland China, HK, Korea, Taiwan etc this really surprises me…they've managed to rip off most other tech things, you'd reckon a hair straightener should present less of a challenge than most other gadgets! :o

These UK prices are significantly lower than even the cheapest local price here, often by half! ;)

  • Do you reckon they are Fair Dinkum? The prices are just too cheap and to include FREE international shipping…. My daughter wants one of the overpriced irons for Christmas, so I am very tempted….
    hmmmm what to do!

I did give a positive for the post. My main concern is the amount of fakes in the UK

    • +3

Check the link lostboi posted above, that's a check from GHD themselves, looks bonafide to me! :)

    • +3

shows on ghd site that asos only sells legit stuff.. if u are thinking of buying from here as i am… i would use paypal to be protected. then when u get the ghd, try registering the product on ghdhair.com. if it register then u know forsure…if not then its a fake and claim ur money back from paypal

  • I received mine just this week from another OZB post from HQhair Its been great so far and the missus loves it. Ive researched both companies before purchasing and have read a lot of positive comments on how well the products from these two stores are. The only reason i went with the one i did was because at the time it was about $20 cheaper then what was offered here. If i required another hair straightener(and if i had the money!) i would most definitely be willing to buy from either of these two stores without hesitation. Mind you, shipping took almost three weeks though.

  • where do u put the code for 10% off and how do u specify aus shipping?

  • could've done with this a few months ago on my mrs birthday…
    good price

edit: which one is better out of the three?

"Please be aware that because we are a British Company, our electric products have a British plug and you will need an adapter"

    • +2

A worthy point to note; however, easily remedied by a trip to your local "Hot Dollar" shop with a deuce in your sweaty palm! ;)

    • well dahh.. na they will replace the cord for u ahaha. it works all the same

      • +5

sorry, thought I'd point it out to those that didn't know

        • +7

I guarantee you some people may not have thought of this.

  • Done, just bought my total $128 AUD.

  • I ordered mine from Asos on the 11th Nov and it arrived the 29th Nov :)

    • Was the ghd u ordered legitamit? Ie came with ghd hologram and were able to register the product on ghdhair?

      • Even some of the fake GHD's come with a hologram, so be careful.

Asos is legit though, and I've just ordered one myself.

  • +1

so which one are people buying, the iv styler or the iv saloon styler?

  • So what one should I buy? Getting this for a friend for xmas and I don't know anything about "Styler's". She mainly just strightens her hair.

    • I ended up getting the IV styler (not the mini or saloon). This seems to be the one they pack into the gift sets. This worked out to be A$125 paying via paypal. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Any guys get the mini styler ? :P
    Too metro/queer ?

    • I'm thinking about it, trying to find a legit rrp.

      • Looks like they've just turned off that coupon.

        Edit: it's still works

  • +2

Mini - for short hair or convienant for travel use
Slim - for medium length hair, not overly thick
Wide - for thick, long, or afro type hair.

    Hope this helps :)

  • I just bought one however it wouldn't accept the discount code. Told me it had already been used and was now invalid. Cost me $135. Still a bargain.

    • I had this problem too. I tried signing up with a different email address (but keeping all my other particulars the same) and the discount worked.

      • ahh wish I knew this! Just bought without the 10%

  • coupon works for me
    DELAYED15101

  • IV styler out of stock!!! grrr

  • So I did some research into the models and found this website
    http://ghdhairstraightenersv.com/sale/ghd-Salon-Styler-2898.…

Its the same GHD but only $95.99 with free shipping. They seem legit from:
    http://ghdhairstraightenersv.com/news/avoid-fake-ghd-hair-st…

Juat got a blingin Gold GHD Classic Styler for the missues chrissy present DONE!

    • Are you sure thats a legit site?

      When I tested it here - http://bewareoffakes.ghdhair.com/

      Says unknown website??

      • hmmm its not listed on the fake websites either so I would hold off from buying there. May be a fake.

      • -1

Yep definitely looks like a fake website DO NOT BUY

    • The site doesn't look right… also tried that link to check.

httpghdhairstraightenersv.com - Caution! Unknown retailer website.

Hopefully they're the real deal and your missus doesn't get a fake for xmas :-(

    • tried, tested. This site is definitely a fake. If you paid with Paypal time to open Dispute.

Asos is a legit one though

  • lol… asos is def not a fake website

  • ASOS is really big! check out their facebook page!

  • just bought the salon styler for my gf for christmas!

you put the coupon code "DELAYED15101" where it says:

    1. Enter discount code or NUS Extra student card number
  • I cant figure out where to put the coupon code? It asks for payment before I get a chance to enter it. Im worried if i do that it will be too late! :( any tips?

  • so they are 100% offical and real GHD from ASOS? Whats the cheapest price in Australia for an offical Mini Style one?

  • +1

I'm not sure why people are still concerned about the legitimacy of products sold by ASOS here; they're the UK's biggest online-only fashion and beauty retailer fer chrisakes, and even GHD lists them as an official distributor of their products! :P

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASOS.com

It's like saying Amazon sells counterfeit books, or JB Hi-Fi sells fake Sony TV's.

  • Also, ASOS used to refund a further 17.5% (VAT exemption for export outside Europe) if you requested it by emailing [email protected], but according to this forum they are seemingly no longer doing so (although some in that thread were still successful in getting a refund): http://forums.vogue.com.au/showthread.php?t=364943

Might be worth emailing them after you purchase if you're keen on a further discount; no harm in trying! :)

    • After ordering one for my Mum I sent an email requesting a VAT refund. This was the response:

"Thanks for your request for a VAT refund.
If we may explain, exports are treated as zero-rate VAT. This means that whilst it is chargeable, it is at a rate of 0%. Consequently, as no VAT would have been paid to HMRC or any other tax jurisdiction, there is no refund to pass on to you.
In the past, ASOS has credited accounts to the value of VAT as a gesture of goodwill, however we have ceased this practice to ensure there is parity in our service.
We realise this may be disappointing news for you, however with our investments in delivery and returns services as well as our ever expanding range of exciting brands, we hope you will continue to shop with ASOS.com."

AKA: "you are being charged for VAT, except we aren't giving it to the tax office, so we don't have to refund you".
I'm not going to kick and scream about it because it's an excellent price regardless (about $125 shipped) - it just seems a bit… dodge?

  • Just got one for my daughter. Awesome price.
    Hopefully gets delivered before xmas!!

  • Asos is a well known online store.
    http://www.facebook.com/#!/ASOSOfficial

People get excited when there is a discount code or free shipping
    http://forums.vogue.com.au/showthread.php?t=353959

  • I can vouch for Asos as well, bought from them heaps of times, always arrives very close to the estimated date they provide.

  • Anyone know about warranty.. Especially in Aus? All I could see was a 28day return policy. I just wana make sure the ghd will be looked after if it breaks down after a month or two..

  • Just received an email advising that the Mrs Xmas present has been shipped. Now just have to hope the UK postal service can get it here on time.

  • Just ordered one!

Not VAT on the invoice to request a refund.

  • Are the straighteners definitely compatible in aus powerpoints? Aus has 240v and Uk has 220v. Im worried the ghd will blow up and break because its not compatible at all. If it is compatible voltage wise, where can I buy a decently good uk to aus powerpoint converter?

    • There is no functional difference between 220 & 240v when talking about AC mains power! You will not have a problem! :)

    • +4

You should be able to get the power point converters in pretty much any electronics store (probably even Crazy Clark's like places as well). There is really no difference between brands because all it is doing is changing the shape of the plug, not changing power or anything. For example, if you could somehow hammer the two UK power contacts out flat and shove it into an Aus power point it would work fine. However I do not recommend doing this haha :P

  • +1

Ah thanks. I was on the phone to ghd not long ago and they said that they cant guarantee its real and I told them their website says it is they said they cant comment. Anyways, they did say if it is genuine it comes with 2yrs warranty and if there are any faults, ghd aus will replace it with a brand new australian one. They also said its universal voltage and a converter can also be bought from strandbags. Out of all places I would never have thought there

  • Anyone know where to get a Hair Straightner Holder for the Bathroom? Wanna get one for the Mrs's to go along with this :)

  • I just got my GHD today. It looks alright. I've also registered online to confirm the authenticity but haven’t heard back from ghd Australia yet!

    • +1

Have you heard back from GHD Australia?

  • Hope I get mine soon

  • Missus got her today

  • I got mine today and not happy about the condition it arrived. First thing I noticed the security seal was ripped completely.
The outer cardboard sleeve has some scratch marks.
Anyway removed the cardboard sleeve and the actual box also has marks aswell.
Then inside the box the black felt material container the straightener sits in has some discolouration.
I am not satisfield this is a brand new product. It will be returned and they are going to have to deliver before Christmas because there is now way I'm going to give that to my wife in the condition it's in.

    • I checked mine and wasn't that bad. Outer cardboard has some scratch marks but apart from that everything was fine.

      • Does yours come with a plastic sleeve and a dvd?

    • Have you contacted asos about it, unity? I ordered one for my friend and she said the packaging looks like its not brand new. If we return it, would we have to pay for the return shipping?

  • Still have not got mine :(

    • Still haven't got mine. Has yours arrived?

  • Nope :(

    • End of Friday, still nothing. Their shipping is slow, hik

  • Bugger, just went to order for the missus and they have gone up to £99

  • Still haven't received mine either - ordered 4 Dec, posted 5 Dec.

    • Haven't got mine eaither, website said posted 3 Dec…

      • Monday 2pm. Still haven't got it. And website said posted 3 Dec.

        • Same. I have till Wednesday, then I'm not sure when I will get it since it's posted to work.

        • This sucks! I'm still waiting on mine too, supposedly posted 3 Dec! Funnily enough, I've already received another order from them for something else which was also shipped on the same day. Anyway, the GHD is for the missus and if I don't get it in time i'm screwed!! Damn you ASOS!!!!

          sigh

    • Just an update - mine arrived this morning. All good - box and item look brand new. I posted my info on kimba88's thread as per the post further down.

      • What about GHD security seal & DVD?

        • no seal or DVD - was there supposed to be one?

  • Got mine, took bout 2wks. I thought the GHD IV were dual voltage for International use? Cant find a switch for it. Even says so at the HQHair site which i was trying to get one frm originally but missed out. http://www.hqhair.com/tools-electrical/ghd/iv-styler

  • Got mine. It looks terrible, like second hand not new at all. Can't be bother with all the return process. ASOS is really crap.

  • Dupe

  • I've made a forum topic on this deal. If you've received yours or havent yet, please respond. Im trying to gage if people in a certain state received theirs and other states didnt and the condition it arrived in.
